Davie, thank you for this video and the one on the Ayr. It is great watching it because I feel like I am right beside you looking over your shoulder and not 4,000 miles away in the Midwest of the US. I have to chuckle when you get the take and miss the fish, your reactions are priceless and are ones that I've had myself many times. So thanks for taking me fishing in Scotland again, I had the privilege of fishing the Tummel a few years ago but the waters you are fishing in are much more attractive and similar to my home waters here in Wisconsin USA.
Love fishing with Davie. Other videos show perfect, long spectacular casts and fish after fish. Watching Davie is like watching myself fish. Every cast not perfect, end up in the trees now and then and a few fish reward the effort and patience, as if we need more reward than to be in such a beautiful place. It looks so manicured. Wonderful!!
A very productive first day on the River Doon, plus perfect weather. Looks like it is time to tie some Dynamite Harry flies. Thank you for sharing with us Davie. Informative to see, and hear you describe the living flies.
Thanks for sharing your day with us Davie. That's a lovely river, I believe Rabbie Burns wrote song lyrics about it. Nice size of fish too. Lovely video.
Hi Jim, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and believe it or not the Brig O' Doon is 100 yards away from where I was and I can fish right down and below it so I should go down and give it a go.. All the very best Davie
When I lived in Glasgow I fished a lot of the rivers around the city and further afield but never the Doon or the Ayr. I regret that now. Great video Davie!
Thank you very much for showing all of us a beautiful place with gorgeous trout David that was something special. Can I ask is it possible to do a rainbow trout video when you get a chance please
I am a little jealous…ice just coming off the ponds here and the slightest hint of green on some early trees…won’t be like where you are for at least two months or more….2* C now might go up to 5? But soon sea trout will be in the estuary so there’s that! You gave me a preview of fishing to come! Thanks for that! Tight lines!! 😊
Good video, I enjoy videos like that should tag videos of the flies your catching on so we can tie them then give them ago on the river and hopefully have the same success.
Nice video and lovely trout, Davie. I was there at 10am this morning looking at a few erosion issues with the owner. There was a touch of colour but it didn't seem to stop the fish taking.. Must just have missed you arriving.
Muy agradable vídeo, y de paso vi otro modo de pescar en río, algo que poco practico, me gustan más los lagos, cuando estuve pescando en río lo hice en medio del caudal, tirando la mosca aguas arriba y dejando que viniera hacia mi . . . Muchas gracias Davie, por mostrarnos tu técnica.-👍👍
Love these fishing videos of yours man and how they show the whole truth of fly fishing. 😊Btw, I was listening to this podcast the other day where Wayne Luallen named you 1 of 3 fly tiers in the world worth following. All the best and keep at it! 😍
Nice video Davie. Wonder what the temp. was? My inclination would have been to fish an the Elk Hair Caddis with a pupa on the dropper maybe a foot or so on the point. I often let that dry move all the way down on a swing and even submerge at the end of the drift. Get a lot of fish here in the US on similar looking water with that combination when there is nothing rising.
Hi David, I think the temperature was around 12 to 15 degrees at the most in the sun and as there was little wind it felt good..I'm sure if I had fished your cast I would have caught as well.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail Let me say, I've watched your video's consistently over the last 10 years or so. I've learned a lot about tying from you and I must say, have tied a number of your patterns. Truth be told, I have to say, your tying style and instruction is the best I have seen on the internet. I've been to the UK a number of times over the years and spent the better part of one summer in Arklow IRE. Did some wonderful fishing there and loved the villages of Riverchapel, Gorey and Enniscorthy. Hope to get back there again someday soon.
Fantastic video Davie, thanks for sharing your day, great to see the different fly life. Couple of good brownies too, how does the Doon compare to the Ayr for trout?
Hi Murray, The main difference really is that there's no grayling in the Doon as it can fish just as well with the brown trout as the fly life can be a good..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie.
Hi John, Yes you can wade if you want though it's a small river and you can easily cover most of the water from the bank..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I agree it is a little bit of heaven fishing there.. All the very best Davie

I was watching your casting….are you side casting or modified roll casting or a combo of both, to your left side and forward? I am interested in tying your method! Thanks for any info. you wish to share!
Hi Mike, As you may have saw in the video I had a few bushes and small trees behind me so I was casting across myself and slightly down stream/side casting and as well roll and spey casting so it was trying just to keep off them. When I was further up and was back casting and using the upstream wind to help turn the fly over..It's not the prettiest cast to be honest but I do plan to use another camera as the season goes on so it will show what I am doing much better.. All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Thanks for the explanation…I am about to get a switch rod I ordered …10’9”, 6 wt. We get a lot of wind here so need to have a bit of extra power for that!
