- Walk with us on the Camino Frances as we depart Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port through the green mountains of the Pyrenees to bustling Pamplona. Day 1 to Roncesvalles is a BIG day and we were ready for it since we started our journey in Le Puy-en-Velay, France.
Part one of this journey, the Via Podiensis (Chemin du Puy, Le Puy Camino) Vlogs: bit.ly/viapodi...
We started our walk on August 7, 2023 in Le Puy-en-Velay. After spending 28 days walking in France, we arrived at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on September 3rd. From there, we continued on the Camino Frances, arriving in Santiago de Compostela on September 29, 2023.
This is Lainey's second time walking the Camino Frances and Shawn's 4th. We hiked the Via Podiensis, Camino Primitivo, and Camino de Invierno in 2023, the Camino del Norte in 2019, and the Camino Frances in 2017. We packed ultralight bags for all of our journeys.

Editing and cinematography were so good on this! You really captured the beauty of a great section!
Thank you so much Jeremiah! It's just the most beautiful day of walking!
It’s when you question your doing it twice, that grabs my attention. Your editorial fluidity and recognising places that I also passed through a couple of weeks later that goes it for me, though.
Thank you.
Thank you so much! We hope you had a nice Camino.
Thanks for bringing back some good memories. (Summer 2019). Buen Camino.
Thanks for watching. It’s such a special walk.
Fantastic, another adventure to follow. Can't wait for the next instalment. Thanks for sharing this with us. Stay low, keep moving!
Thanks so much! 😍
merci
Looking forward to your continued journey
Thanks so much!
Hi guys - great to see you on the Frances! As I’ve done this a few times myself, I get a real buzz and a spring in my step on these early stages. You must have enjoyed re walking these wonderful pathways. Looking forward to your next instalments 😊 Dave
Thanks so much! We reminisced so much about our first Camino together. It was so special to rewalk it.
back on the road cheer up
Our first Camino was in 2017 as well. ❤ I think we are going to end our Via Podiensis Camino in Pamplona, you guys inspired us. However, that "harder than I remember" comment wasn't very inspiring. 😆😆 We took the less steep way this time as well, we did the other way into Roncesvalles the last time and didn't need to repeat it. lol You guys are badass to walk from Roncesvalles to Pamplona! We have never gotten to just enjoy Pamplona so this will be a great ending. ❤ Nice job!
Thanks so much! Pamplona seems like a great place to celebrate the end of your walk.
If the weather is good, the view of the Pyrenees is totally worth the climb. Only the first 8 km or so are super steep and difficult. The rest is long, but not as bad. Especially after walking the Via Podiensis, it felt like such an appropriate "goodbye" to France.
@@DaysWeSpend we agree completely. When we walked the CF in 2023 we didn’t even take a rest day in Pamplona so this will be a real treat.
42km is a pretty long day! Deserves a couple of zeroes for sure!
Bed bugs are horrible! Can you get Sawyer Permethrin in Spain? If you can get it there, spray everything! Clothes, bedding, your pack, everything! It'll keep the bed bugs off. Nasty little critters! 😝
It was suuuuuper long (but not the longest we've done...but definitely not typical for us)!
Yes, we can get permethrin in Spain. But, we recently saw a scientific study that showed the bugs no longer care about it....so it's not really useful.
The Camino Frances definitely has the most issues with bed bugs, but so much could be alleviated if people knew what to look for so they could clean things before continuing to spread them around. We saw so many albergues with signs trying to educate pilgrims.
We were glad we didn't actually get them (we got super lucky). But our friend did get them (twice) even though he has treated all his stuff with Permethrin.
@@DaysWeSpend ah, the bugs are getting smart! They'll be taking over the planet once we humans have all gone 😉😅
@@musingwithreba9667 🤣🤣🤣🤣 YUP!
@@DaysWeSpend In the event of possible bedbug contamination, can you put merino clothing through a hot dryer?
@@bronwenhook6088 We did it once....and shrunk some of Shawn's shirts. However, we did it after washing them. We've heard that you can put them in the dryer as long as they are dry....not wet.
We've washed our merino on the hottest cycle for an hour and had no issues. But then we air dried it.
Laney, what shoes are you wearing?

Hi…Arriving in SJPP in April…Any suggestions where to stay…my preference is a private room in Hostel…Thank you in advance.
Both times we've stayed in public albergues, so we don't have any private rooms to recommend. A lot of people use Booking.com to find rooms. Buen Camino.
Where can I find Shawn's packing list?
Here it is: th-cam.com/video/TTnPGfNDhMc/w-d-xo.html
What are you using for filming? I haven't seen that on your gear list.
We film on our phones and bring a small tripod. I listed the tripod in my packing list: th-cam.com/video/zL7vZXcuu8o/w-d-xo.html
That flock of sheep still there 😂
YES! They're the BEST!!!!
