As a person who has a raging nickel allergy I can really appreciate the time and care that you put into testing your materials. It truly shows your integrity not only as a company, but as a person.🖤

I too have major metal allergies to nickel. My ears swell up, itch and weep..I am so glad that you did a video on it.
And could you please do a video on identifying certain gemstones and crystals. That would be so informative. I was gifted a bunch of small bags, and i have no idea as to what they are. You are an awesome teacher, Von, and I trust your explanation. Keep on enlightening us all.

OMG Von you asked if this video was useful??? A RESOUNDING YESSSS!!!! I feel so lost when I need to buy supplies and when you share your thoughts and experiences with vendors and materials it is ever so helpful! Money is extremely tight for me and by sharing as you did with this unboxing, it has taken the scary out of shopping for materials. You have my endless gratitude. Please continue your fantastic videos. ❤❤❤❤❤

Hi Von! I would have given this video two thumbs up if they had the little picture for it! Thank you so much for going through the trouble of doing this on video for us! This helped me so much because I'm always trying to find out how to look for the best deal that is still a good product. I will be following along to see how it goes when you update us in 6 months. Thank you again- your videos are just great!💜

Thank you! Very helpful. I really appreciate your candor. I worry about inexpensive chains causing itchiness on sensitive neck skin. Looking forward to your test results!
My understanding is that Panda Hall’s shipping costs are pretty high. They charge by weight or volume (I don’t recall which), and I found it difficult to maximize the amount purchased without going into the next shipping cost bracket. Once I included shipping, it seemed to still be a good deal but less so. What was your experience?

I bought some chain from Panda Hall years ago. I was looking for 2mm or smaller and colored, ie red, black, green, blue and was just amazed at all the colors and sizes they had to offer. Yes, chain that is that small is a bear to work with but it is worth it when using it for fringe, hand flowers, and ornaments.

These kinds of videos are what led me to order from Parawire. My youngest has serious metal allergies, but loves copper jewelry (and looks very manly in it!) He married a young woman, a dance instructor, who also has metal allergies, which I also must take into account when making jewelry for her and her daughter. So, please do make more videos like this, I think they are very helpful! (and thank you again for pointing me to Parawire!) 😊

I thought this was great. I love chain and I'm going to live vicariously through your chain haul. I absolutely love the feel of it (well, most of the time--lack of quality shows). I love to see the supplies you buy for your studio. The chain shows that you are "of the people" and use the same suppliers as we mere mortals do. But it also shows us what *you*, a professional, chooses to use and you tell us why. Valuable intel, indeed. So, bring it on! (You should probably be charging for this kind of intel. Thank you for always remembering the little guys, and for giving us this info for free.)

You mentioned that 304 stainless is supposed to be low in nickel. Actually it is a highly alloyed 18/8 steel which means it contains high amounts of chromium and nickel. The nickel level is specified at 8.0-10.5% nickel. It is still considered hypoallergenic because the nickel is bound and releases no nickel ions onto the skin.

this is awesome! Chain has been one thing I have a hard time with because I want to buy it in person so I can feel it and see if its good, but the only place near me that sells chain is like michaels or walmart and I know some of it can be good, but I don't want any fake metals and I'd rather not pay a huge marked up price so this is super helpful! Especially because I'm in the process of trying to buy some stuff to start making inventory and chain was one I was avoiding LOL
I will say when you mentioned if chain making machines were a thing I was curious myself so I went googling to see what I could find and theres a couple websites that sell machines that make chain it looks like, of course you have to ask for a quote though and I didn't do that part so I have no idea how much they would cost but I'm sure a couple thousand or more LOL BUT its cool to know that they exist for us to buy! One of the websites even had a live chat feature that pops up so you can ask questions which I thought was cool. Of course I don't remember which one now as I closed my tab LOL but just google "Jewelry chain making machine" and theres a few that will pop up :)

Do you have any updates on your opinion of the chains yet? Can you post a copy of your order numbers?

Although stainless steel does contain nickel, I am not sure if it is possible for the nickel to react with the body in the same way as nickel plating does. I have never heard of stainless steel causing allergic reactions. I would be very interested to know more about this if anyone can point me in the direction of scientific literature I would be grateful. I am less interested in heresay however.
FYI different types of stainless steel contain different qualities of nickel. Eg 304 contains between 8% to 10.5% nickel and 316 contains between 10% to 14% nickel according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
    Thank you.

I think you are right that the nickel in stainless steel doesn't cause the same issues for folks as nickel plated, though I have no references beyond my own experience.

Just wondering about the 6 spool set you pulled out first. All I can find of arricraft 6 spool cable chain mixed colors is $22 and change. Any way to confirm if I've found the right listing? That's quite a jump in price from 8 months ago.
