Looks like you guys are living the dream, looks like a great time!! If I was 20 years younger I'd try to talk my bride into buy a boat and taking off!!
Hello Teal, Linh, Emma, & Compass! I love the feeling of being with you, sailing, looking out to see Emma watching the Dolphins swimming in front of the boat. That has to be an exciting feeling. So good to see Compass feeling better & enjoying a walk, chasing the squirrels. The rain on your boat sounds like it does on my roof. Hypnotic. Teal, I felt so bad for you with the luck you were having while fishing. It wasn't so much the oar breaking, it was the way Linh pointed out the other fishing boat in the distance where you had been. As if you couldn't catch a fish? hehe Catalina is beautiful, & so is this video. That oil spill looks like a big mess out there along the coast. Hope it can be cleaned up. The fish for dinner looked delicious Linh. Loved how you captured the lightning on the sea. 👍 2.3K
I immediately recognized the overhead shot if Alamitos Bay Marina. I have my Catalina 34 there and I love it! I finally broke down and bought a Torqeedo electric motor for my dinghy. Great! You turn the handle one way and it goes foreword. Turn it the other way and it goes in reverse. No starting, no choking, no gas, no fumes and it’s LIGHT! I store mine in the cabin. Fair winds, etc…
It was so beautiful watching the dolphins. That was probably my favorite part, although that morning after the storm came in a close second. All things considered, a great relaxing video.
You will love San Diego! Mariner's Cove in Mission Bay (north of Point Loma) allows for a 3-day free anchorage. It is sheltered and calm with miles of public beaches. Nearby you can find every conceivable boat repair resource. If you need land support, please let us know. We are a sailing family too and really enjoy following your adventures!
Glad you had a good time at Catalina Island. Super to find shelter before storm hits your area. Oil spills are terrible and effect so many human and animal. I know you love Mexico, however be aware it had changed since you were there. Working on chapter five “The Black Gull Sails Again”. Book ten. God Bless 🐻🙏
Been watching a long time because of the astounding DIY projects! Really enjoyed this one even without any projects. The best was the story about the trials and tribulations of Teal and the dingy malfunctions! Would have made awesomely funny content, cussing and all! Waiting for the cockpit Isinglass installation!
Holy "censored" Teal. What a a pain in the "censored." I too am acquainted with cantankerous outboards. Well you made lemonade. Well done all, staying flexible and coming up with a new plan.
Great episode! Friging outboards. Everyone needs a GoPro, film everything and toss most but don't miss out on anything. You guys are my favorite sailing family, and a great family in general.
Weren't cussing huh? I believe it. Yup, I sure do. Right on Teal. That's putting the ocean to good use........"Fishing" !!!!!!! In your free time you can work on your outboard. Have a good adventure and God Bless.

Nice try Hello Mutta Hello Fatta Here we come Camp Ensenada 800 mooring balls 2021 Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival in October. Better luck letting Compass catch a squirrel for dinner than Teal catching a fish ? lol
That ending conversation showed a great view of the cockpit and the helm ceilings. Reminded me of all the planning and meticulous work you put into those projects and how great the results are. Everything that you three do provides wonderful examples of what can be accomplished with setting goals, thoughtfully approaching the work and following through with the sometime tedious labor. This includes not only Teal and Linh’s efforts but also Emma’s involvement and (perhaps less observed by us) the motivation for her home school studies. Inspirational!
Catalina has changed considerably since I was last there. I lived in Avalon for a while and worked for United Airlines in the summer of 1954. At that time you couldn't go any where outside of Avalon. I visited again by sailboat in mid 1960's and you still could not land without a permit. I guess there wasn't much going on in Avalon as you had no video there. Tough about the oil spill. Not just for you but for everyone along the coast. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
There were areas we weren't allowed to go. Private campsites etc. You still need a walking permit on Santa Cruz Island. We had to skip Avalon because of the weather and a broken outboard. Thanks for following our channel!
Had a great snorkel on Emerald Bay back in July. A beautiful spot. I think we were moored on the same ball. I was thinking how cool it would be to be out when that storm blew through. Still land locked from my shoulder surgery though. Have a great safe passage, hopefully you are safely tied up before the Santa Annas kick in this week.
I remember swimming through a kelp bed and a dark shadow swam past me. I thought it was a shark. As I was going up for air a stopped and turned around and saw a curious seal behind me. He hung around until I left. It happened south of Avalon.
I've had a lot of time on Catalina and it was beautiful and memorable. If you had gone ashore at Two Harbors, they have a herd of bison that roams the northern part of the island and grazes frequently on the isthmus between the two harbors. There are a few trails that run the whole length of the island near both coasts and along the spine. But take plenty of drinking water. You must not have gone into Avalon or you would have shown the shops and the Casino and the views. The destination you chose looks like Long Beach where the ferry to Catalina departs from. I grew up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula which is why I'm familiar with that area. The drive around the cliffs on the PV Peninsula makes for a scenic ride!
Hi Family, there must be something seriously wrong with the outboard because everything on SV Basik is in perfect condition, don't stress Teal just do your stuff and it will be all perfect again. I know the moorings are tight. I will grab a buoy off the stern or swimstep and walk it forward. My bow is about 5' off the water. The boat is 45' so I can wrestle it pretty easy. Something to consider.
