None of them actually speak French, my understanding is that Scott, Kirstie and Mitch worked with an interpreter and vocal coach to learn this song and get the accent right. It really is so impressive! ❤
Scott took a crash course in French for this cover, and according to French speaking fans HE DID AMAZING!! Scott mentioned loving this song on a SuperFruit vlog So they made it happen. Scott has the ability to pick up foreign languages easily! Kirstie said that she and Mitch also took lessons but not as intense as Scott since he was going to lead the song.
PTX goes hard with foreign language stuff- they do Korean with Gangnam style, Japanese with pretender and the perfume medley, Scott does the Italian in the prayer, and Kirstie does Spanish in despasito x shape of you and Felix navidad. They also learn a little bit to speak to the audience when they go on tour. There are some videos of them practicing their lines before they go on stage. The audiences eat it up!
Thanks for reacting to this fun, early Pentatonix video. Scott was a big Stromae fan. During one Superfruit episode he was excited because he had tickets to a Stromae concert. I hope that you will react to the Pentatonix tries to sing100 songs in 10 minutes video. It's fun.
O wow, you know the story!! Thanks for your reaction. Their attention to detail is great. In the original song from Stromae they use dolls. Greetings from South Africa
Regardless of whether they actually speak the language or not (which as others have said, they don't, they just learned it phonetically), Scott RAPPING in French is insane!! His talent knows no bounds. And yeah, I agree, the doll thing creeped me out at first, too. I got over it.
This is less known because Americans don't know anything from Stromae (stroh MY, like maestro reversed), and most people don't do reactions to songs they don't know. Scott actually doesn't speak French, but they got a coach to help Scott get the right pronunciation for the lyrics. I've seen reactions from French people who are surprised by his pronunciation, and assume that he is fluent in French. This is one of the songs in which PTX sing in another language; they have also sung in Korean, Japanese, Italian, Latin, and Spanish.
I think in the cases where they've tackled a foreign song it is mostly an ode to their fans in those countries. They are globally popular, probably even more popular in some places than here in America. It just adds to my adoration of them among all the other reasons to adore them.
The doll makeup freaked me out a little bit the first time I saw this video, but it's slowly grown on me. Both the French and the doll makeup are nods to Stromae's original video for the song - he's Belgian and so speaks French, and had a full size "doll" of his "father" in the video. The PTX version of the song is a lot snappier and more upbeat than the original. Speaking of French - knowing that Scott is pretty notorious for forgetting lyrics, and had to learn French for the song (everyone did to some extent - they use tutors to learn new languages for a song), can you imagine his state of mind just before they performed this on a world tour - in Paris? Apparently the French audience enjoyed it, thank God!
Thanks for keeping up with more PTX! I know it's rough, but I really enjoy your reactions to them (and Superfruit, and solo stuff)! I appreciate your extra time and effort to get these through to us! Panel van and candy! 😂 Their Gangnam Style cover is a blast in Korean!
Scott is the one who really liked this song and wanted PTX to do it, so that's why he's the one singing it. At the end of each Superfruit episode, Scott and Mitch would both say a song they were currently obsessed with. Scott picked this song once. There are actually a few Scott's songs of the week that PTX ended up covering
Lindsey and PTX have two others together. I love them both so much. Radioactive and over the river. Both are great videos Scott was obsessed with Stromae So here we are
Haha the creepy dolls😂 love this one. It always makes me sing along and dance along. It’s hard to comprehend being able to sing in another language (and according to native French speakers he did an exceptional job).
It's another PTX song that had me focusing on the language, the costumes, the makeup, the dancing, that I forgot there were no instruments except cello and violin. lol
Scott seems to be the group member who likes doing other languages. Some people are better at picking up accents than others. French isn't super hard, once you get the accent; a lot of the words have English equivalents. But he did a song in Korean that really impressed me -- Psy's "Gangnam Style" -- th-cam.com/video/_nLLECY6m_Q/w-d-xo.html
Maybe the absence of English/American subtitles kept the views low, but I am so glad PTX did this with Lindsey- just another pleasant twist in their catalog
What’s even more impressive to me than this video is the fact that they have performed this live many many times, including in France. You’ve gotta have some balls to get up in frontof a French audience, who will roast you if you don’t get their language right, and sing a song in French. ❤️❤️
some fun songs that they're done in other languages would be their perfume medley in japanese and they did a despacito x shape of you mashup where kirstin took the spanish!
Lindsey just released a new single titled “Eye of the Untold Her” from her upcoming 7th album ‘Duality’ due June 14th. Maybe you’ll get lucky downloading her latest.
Thanks for doing your homework on this one. Most reactors don’t know the story. In regards to the singing in French. When you don’t know the language or dialect you get a vocal coach. As an actress I have done this before. But to be honest, the second, I don’t need to use it anymore. I usually forget most of it. It took me a while to actually watch this video. I love the song but this video still creeps me out. Panel van and candy. 😂😂😂😂 🤗💋🥰
My son competed in acapella voice and he rarely sang in English. He'd joke his classes ought to count for foreign language credit. I think that's pretty typical for trained acapella singers.
Another great reaction. If you get the chance to watch the original video by Stromae th-cam.com/video/oiKj0Z_Xnjc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=F2RbXQeygMeYEasp you will see why they reference the doll looks. I really love this cover from PTX and their arrangement of the song with adding in Lindsey. The original is just as good and even if you don't watch it as a reaction for us to see, you should watch it on your own. Keep up the awesome reactions and have a great day.
You don't have to know a language to sing in it. You learn the words phonetically, then work with someone who speaks the language to adjust the pronunciation. Then if you have to memorize it you repeat it over and over until your brain retains it. Your pronunciation is actually better learning that way than if you know how to speak the language, because you are less likely to have an accent. I used to sing in a chorus that did songs from various cultures and years later I can still sing songs from memory in Swedish, Russian, Romanian, French, Italian, etc. I also know songs in Spanish and Portuguese, but I have studied those languages.
c'est sympa mais c'est comme reprendre un artiste classique, on per l'essence et la profondeur du morceau, ce morceau n'est pas joyeux, c'est le tragique d'un père absent ...

Please please react to the “100 songs in 10 minutes” it’s so freaking funny!
I’ll second that!! It’s a blast!!

They have several songs in other languages. The Perfume Medley (Japanese) is short but fun.
Lindsey and PTX have two others together. I love them both so much. Radioactive and over the river. Both are great videos

Definitely one of their more unusual covers!
It should have won some kind of award.
Love Lindsey! Love Pentatonix! Love Kevin on the Cello! Etc💜💜💜
Panel Van and Candy...🤣 Another fantastic reaction!
love this song, there are videos of the group practicing French while traveling and before shows etc.

I've obsessed over this track for years and it's so much better live. (No. Dolls)
The doll thing might make more sense if you watch Stromae's original video, which portrays the father as an unresponsive doll-like figure.
Scott released a song pretty recently called Flaunt It. You should react!
some fun songs that they're done in other languages would be their perfume medley in japanese and they did a despacito x shape of you mashup where kirstin took the spanish!
Try this version. Scott is having some vocal issues and Mitch steps in and sings Scott's version in French

Me as a former member of a church choir we have sung in Latin German Spanish French and Hebrew just have to learn the pronunciation.
This song has always creeped me out, too, so I rarely watch it

They are not dolls, they are action figures! You can see the action, right? LOL
Recommend their cover of Come Along.

Please please PLEASE react to some Adam Lambert song 🙏
