In the 60's the stereos had beautiful cabinets, that would go with the furniture you have in your home.

We had this same model. I can attest that it had the best, most natural tone of any stereo at the time. The furniture is beautiful! I had it in my bedroom during high school and my friends loved coming over to listen to so many albums we now call 'Classic Rock'! Beautiful memories!

Drexel made very high-end furniture. That is a gorgeous cabinet.

The tube amplifiers in these units give rich and warm sound that only tubes can give.Solid state cant come too close to this. Motorola probably has a high quality amplifier! Voice of music made many turntables for other manufacturers they are of good quality and design!

Outstanding unit, it is rare to see a cabinet in such good condition. MOTOROLA was the King back then, we had one of their TV sets and it lasted forever. Yes, Tube Amplifiers put out a very rich sound, it is noticeable. Good score there!

I picked up this model over the weekend. The 18" woofer is (almost literally) groundbreaking. No one else put so much emphasis on full bandwidth audio at the time. I had to replace one tube and blow out the dust. Wonderful sound! I just realized mine is slightly older than yours and has a different tuner. Also, the woofer is made my Jensen in mine.

I have a nice 1961 Electrohome - beautiful solid walnut cabinet with the sliding doors. It's gorgeous and sounds amazing. It's a high end model. Had a guy come in about a year back to get the turntable working again and he wanted to buy it. Told me that he rarely saw them anymore and certainly not in pristine condition. I paid 150.00 for it in 1999. I'd never sell it.
Hopefully someone can appreciate it when I'm gone.
    Yours is very nice, man.

I had this issue once with a console
I wrapped it up in a blue tarp and put coffee beans insure fir a week
    The smell was gone
But smelled like coffee for a day lol. But it worked
I have a few mororola units
They made some nice consoles and the Drexel cabinets were the best

I read that coffee beans and rice will help suck up that smell in old furniture.

The red plastic piece that is sticking out of the amplifier chassis is a circuit breaker. If something shorts in the circuitry, the breaker will trip to prevent any further damage or possibly a fire.

Good to hear someone else thinks design first. I just bought an 55ish Emerson then 2 weeks later I came across a 59 Blaupunkt both need electrical work but no cabinate work. Hope your rebuild turned out excelent. And 9 years on are the kids thinking geez dad was cool before vinyl was cool again. lol

This model cabinet looks like Motorola used since 1959. The late 50s/early 60s models had a different turntable and preamp/tuner in which the tuner lacked FM stereo. Some of the early 60s models had a different preamp/tuner with FM stereo. Your model was the 3rd model with totally different turntable and tuner.preamp. I find the old Motorola tube consoles from this era had the best sound to them. These consoles are also known as 3 channel stereo. Good luck with your unit. A definite keeper. I hope to get my 1959 Motorola console up and running but it isn't same model as your aswell as it being half the size with an external speaker.

Those golden voice drivers were sourced by the Jenson Corporation. It wasn’t junk for a Motorola console stereo which they became by the 1970’s. The Motorola X-300 series was a force to be reckoned with in the late 60’s 👍👍

I purchased my Zenith 1940 10S464 radio console through Craiglist and I electronically restored it myself. Tubes are the way to go. You can purchase a cheapie stereo system from Best Buy (their best) or have a console like the one you have that will last for years to come.. These can be retro-fitted for ipods.

Hello. I have a AMPEX cabinet. The speaker covers are in excellent condition, but the speakers are bad. It was built in 1958, so I guess that makes since. The backside speakers are covered fully by a piece of plywood original to the cabinet. I think that the front covers should come off, but I can't figure out how. The speakers can be hidden by roller doors. Do you have any idea how I can remove the speaker covers without damaging them? Thank you for any help.

Hi David. You won't believe it but I picked up a Magnavox Micromatic the other day. It sounds great. The radio plays fine, but I'm having trouble with the record changer. It won't drop the records and doesn't cycle correctly. The 2 are probably interconnected.
It's a smaller unit from 1968 with trumpet drivers in the front and 12 inch woofers on the sides...

    • @classic287
      @classic287 10 ปีที่แล้ว

No, it is a Collaro (made in England) turntable.
The cabinet is smaller than your Motorola, but it sounds big. I've watched quite a few videos on fixing them, so I'm learning little by little...
