  • Death's Door is an indie game that is taking the world by storm, and it's only been out for about a week! You play as the Crow-tagonist starting your new office job of reaping souls but things don't go as planned on your first day. From the creators or Titan Souls, this game is even more ambitious and gorgeously crafted with tight controls and a very interesting world. Let's dive into this indie game smash hit with my Death's Door review!

Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it's honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.
Talon Sharp Combat: Utilize melee weapons, arrows and magic to overcome a fantastic array of beasts and demigods. Mistakes are punished and victory is rewarded. Gain an edge by customizing your character stats and mastering the abilities and upgrades you obtain.
A Beautifully Bleak World: Venture beyond the Doors and explore a land full of twisted inhabitants and countless secrets, bringing hope to the weird and wonderful characters you’ll meet along the way.
A Dark Mystery to Unravel: Track down and defeat colossal tyrants with stories and motivations of their own. Experience a somber yet darkly comedic tale, uncovering the truths behind the flow of souls, the role of the Crows and the origin of the Doors.

If you like indie games (and I'm assuming if you're watching this video you do), mark your calendars for the weekend of September 24 - 26 for IndieLand 2021. It's going to be a FULL WEEKEND OF INDIE CONTENT streaming at twitch.tv/thecompletionist as we raise money for dementia research! We already have 40 developers confirmed to join us and show off their games. We're stoked and I hope to see you there!

ive thought of a theory with this channel, 99% likely to not be true but ive been thinking it more and more lately. Does this guy even play video games, or at least, does he actually do any of the actual game footage or anything for the vids. Ive watched about 15-20 of his completionist series where he supoosededly 100% completes games but at no point of a single one do you ever actual see any live gameplay or live reactions to him actaully playing anything its all just footage hes talking over in a very roboticy reviewer kinda way. It almost seems like he's just talking about everyones feelings on the game and all his opinions usually just match the most popular public opinion for the game and he never talks about unique situations or struggles that happend specifically to him. For example i just watched his i 100% completed plants vs zombies vid and for the whole thing he just talks about the histroy of popcap and how good the music and plant design is and then it just ends and hes like yep i did everything and got the platinum but he didnt even once say how he played the game, like what plants he chose or how he actually played or anything and its the same for every game he does that style of video for, i watched his platinum for dark souls 3 and he never once talked in depth or at all about any boss fight in the game or even a single weapon he used ever its just yep this game was hard, but i got the plat though, and he never shares his psn profile so no one can check his trophies to see what hes actually got the platinum's on to fact check anything which is mega sus, this all is just leading me to believe more and more he doesnt actually do any of this himself. Like i could talk in depth about all the hardest bosses and plot twists of final fantasy 7 even though i havent played it before solely because i've heard loads of youtubers talk about it. it makes no sense to hide your psn, just block anyone whos not friends with you from sending messages or seeing personal info so all they can see is trophies, for a channel that is solely based around getting platinum trophies it makes zero sense to hide your account so people cant see them

I just finished it, and it's a great game.
If you know to plant the seeds as soon as you get them at every opportunity, instead of saving them under the assumption that it's a limited resource that has more places to spend it than there is of that resource in the world. How was I supposed to know, playing the switch version without achievements?
      4 hours of backtracking.
Other than that, it's a great game.
Yes, I am, and shall continue to be quite upset about it.

@@RicochetForce the problem is length, a lot of roguelites don't have the length to be traditional in that sense, and adding content to make them that way would be very difficult/costly.
Plus, it lets them focus on the gameplay core of the game more (hades' combat, spelunky's platforming)

Right? 2D Zelda combat is simplistic but you never hear anything bad about that system. This games combat is simple but satisfyingly crunchy, easy to get to grips with but still challenging when facing mobs of enemies and bosses. I suppose it's not for everyone but while some might use "simplicity" as a way to criticize the combat, I think it helps elevate the game. Look at Hollow Knight, one of the most basic combat systems out there, yet it's still has a lot of appeal to it.

Yeah, I just finished the game, and when I saw his upgrades, I cringed a bit.
Side note, I wish the upgrades were more substantial/less incremental. 4 nodes in on haste and dexterity, and I can't tell the difference from the start of the game. Strength and magic, of course, the breakpoints for damage is obvious. And, ironically enough, I only spotted the increased range with strength on node 4.

More indie games would be welcome but only if they are games you want to play and complete.

This game left me craving for more. Both my kids and I were so captivated by the entirety of this adventure that we wish it never ended. Satisfying, gratifying, and forgiving since you can start over and try again as many times as you want.
The only recommendation I have to those new to Death’s Door…go slow and savor every bit of it

I DEFINITELY would love to see you do more indies! Even if it's maybe not as in-depth (I know how much work you and your team put into all the other videos you do), I'd adore seeing more on this front. Might I suggest Spiritfarer at some point?

I would absolutely love to see more indie games. I value your opinion, and it would be very nice to see if new indie games coming out have your seal of approval. Things like Blue Fire, Blossom Tales, Night In The Woods, Superliminal, etc.. You definitely made me want to play Death's Door. I feel like a lot of Indie games don't get the attention and love they deserve, it's nice to see you advocating for the smaller developers and game companies.
    Keep the awesome content coming!

I immediately noticed this game at E3. I saw the similarities to Bastion in particular, a game I really love, and was anticipating the release. I saw the positive reviews and bought it on launch day. I've played through it twice now, once using all weapons, once for Academy of Umbrellas. I am so glad it turned out so well.
