I can't believe this guy is the relative of Sibelius. Incredible how there are still musicians running around, in any genre you can think of, who are the descendants of the fathers of music as we know it.
If anyone wants to know what it must be like to see Cliff Burton alive and playing bass in the modern era, look at Lauri. He is a virtuoso, just like Cliff was.
Imagine Lauri Walking to the Metallica bass audition Back in the days when they were looking for a bassist. The ”burton vibes” would have gotten him the place probably.
Lauri Porra on kyllä todella lahjakas, taitava, monipuolinen ja vaikuttava basisti! Osaa soittaa monenlaista eri musiikkigenreä ja tyyliä. Monet kutsuvat häntä myös suomen Cliff Burtoniksi. Hieno esiintyjä myöskin, joka uppoutuu musiikkiin täysin. Yksi suurimpia vaikuttajiani myös. :)
I disagree 100%billy is untouchable followed by john myung whose finger picking on bass guitar is faster than any bassist not forgetting they are both musically professional, this guy is good though, it's just an opinion 🤟🤟
@@pzdipuing Okay, well I guess I'll give my 2 extra cents.. Well Sheehan might have been the standard for super fast bass picking (perhaps faster overall than Porra) for the longest time, (30+ years) there's not much else I have seen him do. In 1 video, I saw this guy not only outpick Sheehan, I saw this guy out funk, out and out tap Sheehan... I heard Porra's wonderful solo album and his work with many other bands.. I think if he had a little more limelight like flashes we see here Sheehan would be a thing of the past.... Also, as. a fellow DT fan and bassist of over half of my life, I think Myung is severely overrated.. He can't do much else besides pick semi-fast, and most of the time he just follows Petrucci.. Even his bass solos on Dance of Eternity and Metropolis aren't that interesting in my mind... Oh well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree..
@@pzdipuing Wow I think it's awesome that you would listen to someone you disagree with... Respect! While your at it, check out Felipe Andreoli he's great too!
Though I know that this conversation happened about two years ago, I gotta give my two cents to it as well. As a fellow „Dream Theater“ fan, bassist and John Myung admirer, I have to say one mostly hears him play in the context of „Dream Theater“ songs. Other bassists are shining more often in other bands, their solo music or instructional videos/lessons, whereas John Myung only did one VHS back in 1996 (if I‘m not mistaken). I love his playing, his sense of the perfect note, amount of notes and tonality. His usage of harmonics and tapping abilities is astounding to me. But yet again, I‘m not denunciating other bass players like Billy Sheehan or Lauri Porra, they are as well very inspiring and I love listening to them. It‘s all subjective at last!
@@BobMcMac I mean he had his moments... Scarred was his best performance, but he seldom showed his beautiful harmonics. Lifting Shadows off a Dream and As I Am were like the 2 songs he used them... After Train of Thought he was kinda buried under the mix. As a fellow bassist as well, he became buried beneath the surface (no pun intended). Once he stopped writing lyrics he kinda just said this is a side project.... Yeah that 1 bass cd was cool but he barely showcases the stuff like Solar Groove... I wish he did more especially considering the fact that he was in DT as long as JP... kinda sad. The mixes in DT also are bass devoid....

I was blown away by this guys skill.Never expected Lauri Porra of all people to be this incredible on Bass!
One of the best bass players ever. Versatile, from metal til classics....
Solid basics in classics Lauri sets the standard for all rock bassists.
Exactly how I feel when playing the bass alone (but certainly not how I sound haha :D) !!
Propably the best bass solo I've seen live.
Impresionante....gran solo , gran músico
OMG 🤩 I JUST LOVE THIS GUY...HUGE RESPECT 🙏💖
He had The Pick Of Destiny for breakfast that day! D: Finnish musicians are all so amazing! My favorite guitarist is Alexi Laiho :D

It's like watching modern day Cliff Burton.
Técnicas, virtuosismo, magia y show. Habrá mejores bajistas, mejor solo jamás
Só de pensar que "Porra" é um xingamento... Dá pra fazer umas piadas fodidas.
The Fingers of Destiny, my friend! :)

El hermano perdido de Clifford Burton👌👏👏 the new burton
Porra meu, Lauri toca muito 🤘🏻😂
Honestly, I wish he'd showcase his talent a little more in Stratovarius. This guy will blow Billy Sheehan out of the water...

First time when I see Lauri on concert I think immediately on Cliff Burton, same look, sound and style of playing...
For all the people who say " Bassist? haha lazy guys that's only four chords!" Check that!

Where the fuck is "The Pick of Destiny"?? D:
I think is a Fender Model, but I dont whats exactly
Boris Draconian it looks like a jazz bass but esp copied the model of a fender jazz bass
i like that i will spend so much time learning anesthesia pulling teeth. i then see this and im like. Welp no point in playing anymore
Yeah ..for me too..t´s like ambiguous feeling: an inspiring one..and the bad idea that I better not pick my bass anymore...=)
