Artsakh doesn't exist anymore as of the time this vid is published. 80% of the population fled to Armenia since the start of the current conflict and I guess it will officially be a part of Azerbajan soon. Also to be fair Istria was under Venetian rule for several centuries so Italian influence goes back a lot longer too.

As an Italian, I think I can give some more info that you left out about Istria, Corsica and South Tyrol (not mentioned in the video): Istria was Latin for most of its history, first with the Romans, then with Venice, but for for various reasons it has been slavicized several times. At least today Italian is still recognized as a language in both Slovenia and Croatia and it seems fair enough to me. Corsica has always been linked to the rest of Italy by language, culture and traditions and their father of fatherland Pasquale Paoli has always supported the idea of being recognized as Italians with equal rights as others. Unfortunately, this awareness has only remained with some older corsican, because by now the majority no longer feel this brotherhood. What in my opinion they don't realize is that with Italy they could make their identity even stronger (obtaining the status of Autonomous Region, with the recognition and protection of Language and Culture, and if necessary, having as official language both French than Italian, as already happens in Valle d'Aosta). Many Italians identify themselves in their Region and by doing so they are emphasizing the fact of being even more Italian (obviously if it is done in a peaceful way, and not ignorantly and aggressively)... and for Corsica it would be the same: consciously identifying themselves as Corsican, they would confirm the fact of being Italian, instead they are "exploited" by France. Having said that, it is only up to them to decide what to be, and I will certainly not be the one who wants to impose my ideas on this wonderful people, who I hope can achieve their objectives whatever they may be. South Tyrol is the northern part of the Trentino-Alto Adige region and has a German majority. In the past there have been separatist movements, including terrorist ones, but now it's all over and the majority of the population is no longer in favor of separation, also because with the status they have in Italy I think it is more economically convenient to stay there (it is a territory that has one of the best provincial autonomies in the world, and their culture is protected) . However, if one day they separate or join Austria, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

A little bit late answer to this as Corsican. Of course we are sharing many links with Italy, the language being just an old Tuscan dialect, the still strong catholicism but no one ever consider being Italian to be honest. I got your point and it wouldn't shocked me if Corsica belonged to Italy. But the struggle is more about the differences with France than the similarities with Italy. The idea is really either to become independent or geta real autonomous status as in Italy or Spain for example but staying in France. The french influence is too strong I think to just get rid of and go to another country like this, furthermore due to the fact that Italy didn't exist as a whole at the time of the French annexion of Corsica

I don't see how Hungarian Transylvania would make any sense. The Magyars are a minority in Transylvania, 17% (6% in Romania as a whole). Hungary annexing it would give them a considerable Romanian minority in this scenario, >25% of the nation as whole. The most realistic best scenario for Transilvanian Magyars would be an autonmous Szekelyland within Romania's borders (which is only the region around Harghita and Covasna, not Transylvania as a whole). Thank you for another great video featuring a few regions I’ve already visited, it brings back good memories and breathtaking views I enjoyed there. Commenting on the content, I think the so called Republic of Artsakh no longer exists, so it’s no longer possible that region may join Armenia in future. Switching to the beautiful island of Corsica, I don’t think we can say all Corsicans are French. They are of course French citizens and speak French, but my impression is they consider themselves as separate ethnic group. One thing I remember from my Corsica holiday is very few French flags were present in the public space, but Corsican colours were present everywhere. I don’t think there many people who would like Istria to join Italy, but there are two autonomous regions in Italy that in my opinion could have been included in this video. First - South Tirol (Trentino-Alto Adige in Italian, Südtirol in German) with a significant group of German native speakers. Second - Aosta Valley with two official languages, Italian and French. Another region that probably missing is Alsace, but I’m not aware if there are any people there who would prefer to be part of Germany instead of belonging to France. Finally, apart from Transylvania, Hungarian minorities exists in both Slovakia and Vojvodina, as both were under Hungarian rule up until the Treaty of Trianon in 1920.
Note: A national priority began with the assimilation of non-Italian people in 1923 and continued under the Mussolini administration. Closing Slovene and Croatian public schools and institutions, gerrymandering to lower the number of Slovene representatives in Rome, and evicting priests and educators from Istria and sending them to Yugoslavia or other places were some of the tactics used. Norway will not step on the UK's toes and demand the islands back, the UK is a too important trade partner and ally to risk over such an "unimportant" issue. There is nothing "inevitable" about NI joining the Republic. Galicia will never be independent, or join Portugal, for multiple reasons, but mainly financial. Portugal is a much poorer country than Spain, in almost every aspect, and at the end of the day, it is the common people who choose, and they will choose the more prosperous country.
Poorer yes, but not very much. Check the GDP per capita. The diffences between Spain and France for ex is more than 4 times higher than between Spain and Portugal.
Galician doesn't have celtic influence, at least, not more than any other romance language with celtic substrate, like Spanish or Astur-Leonese. Galicians are as Celts as the people from Valladolid, Toledo or Madrid are.
The Galacian language is closely related Portuguese. The Celtic languages disappeared from Galacia centuries ago. There are still place names in Galacia that have a Celtic origin though.
@@michaelhalsall5684 there are celtic toponims in all of Europe and even Turkey. Lots of the roman cities of Spain were celtic before and have a celtic toponim, like "Segobriga", and also current cities, like "Arévalo", "Brihuega", "Sigüenza" or "Segovia" in many different regions: Castille, the Basque Country, Asturias, Galicia, Portugal, Extremadura, León... Is not closely related. The celtic substrate of romance language is the same in Spanish, Galician, Asturian and even Basque has some influence. Galician and Spanish share most of the words of celtic origin and both of then have just a testimonial amount of those celtic words. Also, some of those celtic origin words in Spanish and Galician come from the celtic substrate in French, Occitan or Italian, not particullary from autoctonous celtic words (there were lots of celtic languages in Spain, even within the different tribes they may have different languages). Is like saying Spanish or Galician are semitic languages or closely related with semitic or mixed with it because both languages have lots of loanwords from Arabic. There is no evidence on were the romanization ended, but Asturias and the north of Castille and Leon were conquered lately. Romanization was unstopable. Galician celtism is just romantic nationalism without any historical base. Political roleplayers.

Speak for yourself. Where is the 'Ç'? Ah yes, Madrid doesn't let Galicians use it officially, they call Galician a silly Spanish dialect. Remaining in Spain is slow suicide by assimilation for Galicians. That goes for Basques and Catalans too. Unlike Spain, Portugal has no mass graves from civil wars. I would give it a second thought myself too, if I had to endure Franco.
@@lordcommandernox9197we clearly see that you are Portuguese, do not know nothing about Spain and you want to spread false information. Don't take this entirely seriously since I aint a local. But after living in Germany for about 7 years. I've noticed that wherever I go in germany (different regions), people dislike Bayern, and joke saying they wouldnt mind if Bayern gets its independence. I went there (Bayern) for vacations and went to the Zugspitze and the neighbouring mountains, and realized that the bavarian's accent is pretty similar to the austrian one and they also share cultural similarities. At the mountain people say hi to each other and austrian and bayern people would say "servus", while any other german would say hallo/moin. I dont know if austria should join germany or bayern should join austria, but the latter sounds more fitting. Dont think it would happen anyway, but just curious and would like see a video about it?
That's true, Bayern (Bavaria) has more in common with Austria than with the rest of Germany. It has historical reasons. Btw. Bavaria is considered the "Texas of Germany" 😃 On the other hand, I wouldn't say other Germans dislike Bayern (maybe because of the politics.. their leader always wants to differ and disagree with everything that the rest of Germany wants). For sure, the language is different too and can be annoying if the Bavarian people refuse to speak "proper" German that you can actually understand, but I know many Germans who often go for holiday there and love it. To be honest, indeed the most beautiful part of Germany - I myself was there last year and the people are way more friendly and preserve their culture more than here in North-Germany for example. And yes, you don't really realise once you cross the border to Austria 😃 Maybe only the prices...
@@ingi2785 yes Allgäu, it's my favorite part of Germany by far, and like you said, people are very protective of their culture, but also very kind, had a great time there. We started the climb from the Austrian side and like you said, it felt like Bayern still. But the gasoline prices were crazy 🤣. Well I know it's not most people that don't like Bayern. But some people really dislike the south. And I know I don't have enough information to make proper statistics, it would be a sampling error. Nonetheless I felt it was worth mentioning in this video.

The idea of union with Hungary creates more problems (for everybody) than it solves.
I think it would be cool to have an independent Transylvania as the Switzerland of the East with Romanians, Hungarians and Germans having their common nation.
Exactly!
In my unbiased opinion, I think neither Hungary nor Romania can govern it without the other (Hungarians from Romania and vice versa) wanting to secede, the region is far too diverse.
This would solve a lot of the existing tensions.
Great video!
For some reason, the Portuguese have the false belief that Galicians want to join their country.
Yeah, we actually don't want. Some people only wants independence but most of us would prefer to stay in Spain or unify with Portugal together with the rest of Spain.
No Portuguese even talks about Galicia that much lol
@@MW_Asura Well, I've seen it many times. Both on the internet and in real life.
A law that Italianized Slavic names in Istria was passed in 1927. The anti-Italian nationalist group TIGR
The same in occupied Transylvania under the Hungary
My grandfather's name was charged to "Fekete" and he was declared as "Hungarian" in their census. Orthodox priests were banned or killed and Romanian schools were closed. After Trianon finally Romanians from Transilvania gained their freedom. It is stupid to say that a 73% majority to be ruled by a 17% minority.
I understand you! For my country Trianon was a recognition of our national dreams! We lived under Hungarian repression exactly how you said!
There is zero chance Galicia joining Portugal. I've got love for them, but most Portuguese don't know nothing about galizia..
We always had a big rivalry with Spain but nowadays it's more about love..

It absolutely did! The volume of ambulances is absurdly loud. I only noticed in the final editing so it was too late to re record lol.

Transylvania will never breakaway from Romania. It’s like saying Plovdiv would breakaway from Bulgaria or Naples from Italy. Just because some support a breakaway region doesn’t mean it’s realistic.
Might not be plausible in the short term, but it would be justifiable historically and ethically.
"Plovdiv from Hungary" lmao
@@sonofskeletor33😂😂😂
How "historicaly"? Hungarians came into Europe from Asia! They were powerful just allied with Austria.
"Ethicaly"???? What are you talking about? A 17% minority to rule over a 73% majority? Hundreds of years of de-nationalization and forced assimilation?
What are you smoking?
My grandfather's name was changed by Hungarians in "Fekete" and registered as "Maghiar" in their census!
In this case it is ethical to turn back to slavery!?!
@@MihaiMarinescuJr Uh, because Transylvania was inextricably linked with Hungary for a full 1,000 years? Is that historical enough for you? I'm not advocating it go to Hungary regardless, just that ethically there would be great justification for Transylvania becoming an independent nation. It's historical connection with 'Romania', is tenuous, at best. The ethics by way in which is was attached to Romania were questionable, at best. Thus, historically and ethically, it's eminently justifiable.
Oh, and all humans came to Europe via Asia, unless they crossed via Gibraltar from Africa. So, not really sure what your point is?
@@sonofskeletor33 yeah but Hungary never gained full ethnic control of the territory, as Romanians always inhabited the region. It’s like saying turkey has a claim to Bulgaria because they ruled over it for 500 years. Same thing with Ukraine and the Baltic states. Nothing historically matters if a ethnic majority is present, and is native to the lands like Romanians / dacians.

You really missed the timing of events in Azerbaijan. Artsakh is no more and will never be an Armenian populated region again. And rather than Nakhchivan being absorbed by Armenia, it is more likely that Azerbaijan will force a land corridor to stop it from being an exclave.
True. At the time the Soviets took control of it, Nakhchivan had a 40% Armenian population, and a simple look at a map would dictate that it should have been made part of Armenia. The Soviets were real bastards for effectively laying inter-ethnic conflict time bombs.
That does seem possible, but it's also possible that the geopolitical landscape shifts in a way that Armenia is able to resist Azerbaijani genocidal expansionism.
If Orkney Islands joined Norway, you'd put them in the video talking about countries that have regions which they shouldn't have.
Azerbaijan proved they won't allow any of its regions to breakaway again, lol

I do not believe it will happen, but as a Norwegian I think it could make sense for Orknøyene (Orkney Island) and Hjaltland (Shetland) to return "home" if they so wish. The cultural connection is still strong and there are many similar communties in Norway today. Norway will not step on the UK's toes and demand the islands back, the UK is a too important trade partner and ally to risk over such an "unimportant" issue. If a reunification were to happen the initiative and the inevitably struggle with British/Scottish authorities will depend solely on the islanders themselves.
Orkney is a huge stretch. It is never going to happen, its a couple fringe locals and the vast majority are behind staying Scottish. As they are all Scottish its not surprising

Firstly, indonesia lost all those 3 teritories from legal procedures through UN instead of ethnic cleansing, unlike what azerbaijan did
Secondly, unlike azerbaijan who keep attacking weaker armenia again and again, indonesia have history of getting in war against multiple countries, all at once and come as the winner (dutch, ausie, nz, uk and gurkha forces)

There is nothing "inevitable" about NI joining the Republic. Until recently (namely Brexit) support for unification had been declining for 10 years, and even at its height it was always a minority position (and still is, despite the right-wing Brexit madness in the UK). A large proportion of Catholics also did not want unification. And even if it did become a majority position you are going to be taking a significant minority of people who feel very strongly that they don't want unification. Hi, as a Romanian, I have to tell you the part with Transylvania was kind of wrong. At the time of The Treaty of Trianon, the partition of Hungary was highly exaggerated. Yet, today in all of Romania there are 6% Hungarians. In Transylvania, Hungarians live mostly in 2 counties (Covasna and Harghita - The Szekelyfold) in the middle of the country, and the rest live scattered in some villages on the border and other regions. And as a extra-note in Romania there are the most liberal ethnic laws of all Europe (they learn in Hungarian in school, Hungarian signs, other).
Maybe in the future you could do a video about cultural diversity in the Balkan region.

6:10 - welp considering it got ethnic cleansed out of existence back in 2023 and officially dissolved just a couple days ago, safe to say it’s not joining Armenia, just most of the population fled there anyway, which is mostly the same effect, save for the buildings and churches that are now having Armenian culture scrubbed from them as Azerbaijani nationalists try to pretend that Armenian culture hasn’t existed in the area for centuries and that Armenia itself is “West Azerbaijan”
Armenia will never have Nagorno-Karabakh.
It is internationally recognised as Azerbaijani, and Azerbaijan asserted their control over it with a military intervention (that no-one outside of Azerbaijan or Armenia cared about) a few months ago.

Btw. Bavaria is considered the "Texas of Germany" 😃
On the other hand, I wouldn't say other Germans dislike Bayern (maybe because of the politics.. their leader always wants to differ and disagree with everything that the rest of Germany wants).
