  • This is an update on my 3,500-gallon aquarium housing peacock bass (Cichla spp.) and a few other Amazonian fishes. The aquarium has been up and running for 3 1/2 years now, and most of the fish are 3 - 3.5 years old. They have grown incredibly fast, with most weighing between 9-10 lbs, and the big C. temensis weighing an estimated 18 lbs -- incredible! I had more peacock bass (you can see in earlier TH-cam videos posted, but I donated some duplicates of species to the Moody Gardens aquarium in Galveston to reduce the live biomass in the aquarium, not to mention the amount of waste being produced. Some of these fish are real trophies now! I feed the cut-up pieces of fish (heads, bones, scales, fins, entrails and all -- which they devour greedily. I have to ration their meals -- usually one feeding in the early morning. KW
