    I always thought that the 999 looks better than the 916 series, I had one for years did 48k miles on it. Have an 1198 now and I still think about getting a 999 again :-)

    I love to ride my 2006 model.
    I like the sleek side looks as well as the "hidden" exhaust.
    Pierre Terreblanche did a nice industrial design job.
    The zyclophobic single headlight was a shock back then, but quickly became popular.
    I lover her and can't complain.

    It was a massive change from the 916 styling but goos on Ducati for not being timid. The race versions looked cool as did the 749r.

    I never really liked the 998 styling but I am a fan of the 999. The problem is most people love the 998 because the nostalgia and legacy of the bike. I feel the same towards my 1198s having really started getting into WSBK in 08 when Troy Bayliss was on the 1098r

    How does your 999 compare with other Ducati's that you've ridden? And are the repair costs manageable?

  • @spencersmith8011

    I own a 996 and would trade it any day for a 999. I think Ducati nailed it on this bike, so cool and unique. Too bad Audi is making Ducati mainstream and lame now.

    I love both the 916 bikes and 999. My opinion is, while the 916 family is painfully pretty, the 999 is jaw droppingly cool and has more of a "holy sh!t" factor to it when seen in person. If I had to use cars as a comparison, I'd say the 916 was more like a Ferrari 355 in the way that its a classic, ageless beauty, while the 999 is the Lamborghini Countach. A wild looking, badass machine that "pretty" isn't a good describing word for, but the shock value is out of this world. It rocks. Both bikes have their place.....in my garage.

    some designs don't age.
    some designs age.
    this design has come of age.
    i hated it. now it one of my favourites. its biggest problem was the model it replaced.

      I always loved it and that says alot because I hate futuristic stuf. It is beautiful it always was and if I hear its Ugly one more time Im gonna kill a puppy. Its 10x more pretty than that alien bug 916

    • @theant9821
      @theant9821 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DexMaster881 i wouldn't say that, but if there had been a model or two to evolve the styling from the 916 family to this it would have got almost no hate at all, especially the late red frame/black swingarm versions.

      The ANT you know... I think the 916 is gorgeous and in a womanly, voluptuous way. The 999 looks like a jet fighter. Still very cool and appealing. Looking back on the era, and what came after, I wish Ducati had kept terblanche onboard and explored the new looks, and created new classics, rather than play out a succession of homages to the 916 design, as they did with the 1098 family.

    • @theant9821
      @theant9821 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      unclejoeoakland yes, the 916 was and is a beautiful icon, but without being an styling evolution like 1098 the 999 couldn't be loved as much because of its styling revolution.

    • @unclejoeoakland
      @unclejoeoakland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ANT I think and hope we are arguing to the same point- that Ducati should feel right about letting a classic be a classic, and letting new designs stand on their own merit. Now, the 999 family is hugely appealing to me, but in its own ways, for its own reasons, and not least of which because it is still a very formidable performer.

    11K alot of money, lol. Buy one in Norway and you would pay close to 30k when it was new. 11k is the price of a big scooter.

    Why would Ducati make a liter bike that makes 15+ hp less than the Japanese rivals?

    • @buca9696
      @buca9696 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Because bhp isn't everything.

      tavi921 Acceleration and top speed is though. When you're talking less than 200hp 10+ is a big difference. Possibly a reason the big four usually win the moto gp titles...

    The ugly Duc has come of age. It was a bit ahead of it's time with its radical looks, it compares well with modern bikes. The 916 is a great and unique looking bike, but it does look like a bit dated, whereas the 999 could be mistaken for a present day bike.
