Quite interesting I've been into this music since probably 1983 and started out on the MTV bands like quiet riot ratt def leppard ac/dc van halen and twisted sister thanks to my older cousin. What really hooked me even more on metal is when I first heard thrash in 1988 and haven't turned back since.
42yo here and i got into metal through 2 school friends in 1992 when maiden released fear of the dark since they wore the shirts and then i bought in 93 my first maiden cd and GnR use your illusion, even tho had some phases didn’t wear metal shirts daily, metal always was a big part, and still is.
Interesting to hear your story of your journey getting into metal. I started with classic rock and metal and then went into different genres later on in school and collage. I think you must know of my eclectic taste in music. And the journey will continue for a long time. Always like finding newer bands and genres. \m/

My "when did I become a metalhead" story really began when I moved from ultraconservative city of Brisbane in Australia to Melbourne, Australia in 1985. When I lived in Brisbane I absolutely hated radio music a friend lent me his copies of Punk and Disorderly which blew me away however I had to listen to this stuff in secret due to very conservative parents but this laid the foundation to my love of heavier music. Also just before I moved to Melbourne a cool older woman who worked for my parents took me to see Iron Maiden on their World Slavery tour which really started to ramp up my love of metal. After I moved I found that Melbourne being a much bigger city had a very rich underground metal scene and there was even a 3 hour radio show every week that played the latest underground bands from Europe and America. This introduced me to bands like Voivod, Celtic Frost and Kreator. Then I found a vinyl record shop that imported all that stuff so I started buying 2 albums a week. I was going to local underground gigs every week and met heaps of awesome people. I started playing drums in a Metallica cover band which was cool but short lived so I kept practicing more and more, faster and faster which led to me starting a grindcore band called Blood Duster. I met a guy from Ireland who introduced me to Carcass, Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower. I also liked bands like Bathory which led to my love of black metal which I still listen to this very day. I am a metal head to my core and only viral meningitis or a kick to the head from a horse will ever change that. The only negative thing is I have never found someone special as passionate to accompany me on this journey but I've always ended up on my own because while you meet heaps of people at gigs or online, away from the music they change pretty quick into something sensible and "grown up". I love hearing your stories from someone I think is and old fashioned grass roots metalhead which these days are few and far between. Keep it up!
I started from linkin park in 2001 and then teen angst and limewire hit hard in 2004/05 and introduced me to bands like bullet for my valentine, as I lay dying and trivium but that the same time bands like dissection, Suidakra, , dimmu borgir, in flames, old man’s child. I thank limewire for my eclectic metal tastes today. I can go from listening to metalcore to thrash, to death to raw black metal still lol
You're the same age as me, I got into metal in 2016 and it's always remained a part of my life ever since, it's so diverse and that's why it will always be the best music out there. I subscribed a while ago as I love your videos 🤘🤘🤘
Both my parents were into metal, my mom was a huge Slayer fan and my dad really liked hatebreed both of them had some pretty extreme tastes in metal for me my tastes really started with doom metal bands like candlemass or death metal bands like death
A couple of buds of mine have a band you might like, if you want to go down a rather unknown but cool rabbit hole i sugest their band Moonspell. Songs like Luna, Night Eternal and Breathe (Until We Are No More) paint you a picture of what they are all about. Hope you like them.
I heard Terrorizer - World Downfall before ever hearing Napalm Death; I therefore never listened to Napalm Death because Terrorizer (and especially and even moreso Repulsion's Horrifed) was just so dramatically superior, and I'm not a grindcore fan so I only like Repulsion and Terrorizer. As regards grindcore*. If you haven't heard those. I believe Repulsion - Horrified is from 1986. But it's almost heavier than anything since. Typo edit *
I prefer black and doom , my favs are Immortal, Usurper, Root Cz, Bathory,Darktgrone and Trouble ,st vitus etc love the sound. If u heard of Aussie black metal one man band HORDE. My band is Mirha- Jesus is my savior on spotify . We on all streaming platfirms

I was 3 when Kurt Cobain deleted himself. I vaguely remember the rise of nu metal (which I mostly hated except Deftones) and because of my sister, the rise of 3rd wave emo. How did I get into metal? Myspace and Kerrang. Really sad to hear what happened to your first love.
Cradle of Filth way better than dimmu. I used to joke that they were dimmu boring. But there im much more into Nevermore and my dying bride type o negative! Napalm Death yes. They are fantastic. Lovely fellas seen them so many times.

Very cool story on how you got into metal. I like how you got into symphonic metal first before getting to the more extreme metal bands.

Oh yeah, and if you've never heard of the band Judicator before, I would STRONGLY recommend their album Sleepy Plessow.

Awesome metal origin story!
Your metal journey is quite similar to mine. Korn and their contemporaries were a HUGE influence on me.
