    I lived in South India - Hyderabad and North India - New Delhi and I can attest to what Kenny said. When I lived in New Delhi I would have long conversations with rickshaw drivers, people on the bus and at small shops all the time. The person can be a total stranger and we will talk like we knew each other before lol. Also, I lived in Hyd for 4 years and when I moved to New Delhi I was definitely shocked at first how random people will strike a conversation with me. I left in 2018 but I still miss New Delhi to this day. Many friendships and most of all great food!

    I remember taking a shuttle bus after I landed in New Delhi and this flight from Canada had landed at the same time. The shuttle was full of Punjabis who apparently didn’t know each other but were having conversations with each other as if they’re from the same family. They even helped us load our luggage. Another reason why South Indians can’t randomly talk to each other could be because of the language barrier. North Indians have Hindi as a common language and predominantly most of them can converse in Hindi. But the Ppl in the South have 4 distinct languages with less or no common ground.

    There's a class difference as well when you talk about grieving (even in the South). The loud wailing you watch in Tamil/Telugu movies is more in the lower and lower middle classes of the economic strata. The funerals in upper middle and rich classes are still very silent with occasional outbursts. Add to it the complexity of the suddenness of the death which can add to the grief. A death is a death whichever part of the world you're from, it evokes the same feelings from inside. It's just the expression that would change. Tamil movies are notorious for those over the top funerals. Telugu movies do not encourage killing the protagonist, Tamil movies readily do that to evoke those extraordinary emotions. They have a penchant for tragedy à la Game of thrones

    • @aravindhkumar5581
      @aravindhkumar5581 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      No no even the richest also cries with loud wailing if their dearest is deceased, so there is no class difference and all in crying , and loud crying is a culture in Tamil Nadu , it is called oppari padal ( wailing song)

    • @nagarjunayt
      @nagarjunayt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@aravindhkumar5581 Oppari padal again has come from folk culture and not something urbane people relate with. I'm not taking anything away from that practice, but just highlighting the differences.

      @jayasuriyalakshmanan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally speaking Oppari is a like tradition to sing for the deceased people, mostly sung by old members of the family. (The old members here I'm talking about is like people aged around 70 to 90) I've been to both middle class and upper class funerals a lot and I've noticed Oppari is more commonly sung only if the family has a old person who sings it. As Nagarjuna points out, only lower economic strata sings them is not wrong as they have old members who knows how to song them. Whereas the upper class people kind of forgot or doesn't have people to sing.

    • @kayalk8772
      @kayalk8772 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not about the income but who follows or values the tradition. In tamil nadu they sing and then when they take body they hit the death beat with drums. Thats meant to be something grand, like celebrating your birth ,they celebrate the life they have lived. So in many rich households who follow the tradition do it. Mostly migrated population and people without big extended family dont do it. As when you are schocked when someone dies the close family members can't call and arrange for the drummers and stuff its the rekatives who do it. So if you do not follow tamil culture or have family its quite difficult. And tamil movies dont do it over the top. They did the same thing for my grandpa and grandma.

      To be united you northies need to stop dividing by religion. Stop being judgemental and racist to others first. There is a reason south Indians are so assertive of their regional identity - because North Indians want to homogenize all under one single umbrella.

      Yes yes. Idk if you're purely Gujarati or just have Gujarati DNA but requesting for homogeneity in socio-political ideas, for one of the most diverse countries in the world is just insane. A huge lot of you guys just think we all would agree on what a specific sect of people want to wish for themselves and implement it in the entire country. We are not far from the fate of Yugoslovia if you don't admit the difference in cultural and social perspectives around the entire stretch of the nation. Speaking as a Delhite living in the South, I can say that for most South Indians..everything above Karnataka and Telangana (or anyone not belonging from the 5 South Indian states) falls under 'North' India - be it Bengal, Maharasthra or Punjab 😅 whereas, while most Delhites would classify the 5 states under the same category of 'Madrasi', we do have other categories as well(from our perspective) - North(J&K,Himachal,UK), West(Rajasthan,Gujarat), Punjab-Haryana belt, UP-Bihar belt, East(WB,Orissa), NE(seven sisters), MP. Goa and Maharashtra is pretty much 'South' 😅

    • @essee3984
      @essee3984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Roguejin Da Logically yes, I mean UP itself is pretty huge. But from a layman Delhite's perspective, it pretty much falls into the same belt 'UP-Bihar' maybe because of the similarity in the dialect, or portrayal in Bollywood 'Main aayi hun UP Bihar lootne' over the years or simply because a large of number migrant workers in Delhi come from UP and Bihar. And as a community, they tend to live together in the same neighborhood.
      'North' from a Delhites' perspective are the mountain states 😅

    • @essee3984
      @essee3984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Roguejin Da True. UP itself is very diverse - Bundelkhandh,Awadh,Purvanchal.
      Btw, Uttar Pradesh got the name 'Uttar' when Uttarakhandh was still a part of it. As of now, geographically speaking and going by latitudes,Punjab and Haryana are much more towards North than UP 😅

    • @essee3984
      @essee3984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @^ KING ^ Haha yes I'm aware. But geographically before they became individual states in 1956, parts of present day Karnataka, Andhra and Kerala used to fall under 'Madras Presidency'. Infact, the state name 'Karnataka' for example came into existence much later in 1973
