In 2015 on the way home to Mn after snow birding for the winter; we camped at this old KOA on space 66 way out in the back for overnight it was way fun for a couple of old geezers, kept my Mossy 590 next to the bed. On the way out some people taking some pics just stared at us as we drove our RV out of the apocalyptic KOA.
I was in Two Guns in May 2018 with my son. That chair was moved to the center of the room when I was there. My son sat down in it. I didn't think it was a good idea. Got a picture of him on it though. There was a broken ladder on the back side of the Kamp building that he climbed up to the second level. There was evidence that someone was staying there. I refused to let him climb down into the cave as I was worried about rattlesnakes down there so it is interesting to see what it looks like from inside.
Twin Arrows Trading, I'd been in there a few times back in the day. I used to commute from Cali to Texas and the Midwest rodeoing. Watching this was trippy cool; thank you!

The KAMP building is the KOA campgrounds that were located throughout the Southwest states. Some of them are still around. There's 2 or 3 around the Santa Fe, N.M. area still being used to today. Each of them have the same KAMP style building.
Back in the late 50’s through the 70’s we drove on 66 every summer to get to our grandmothers home in New Mexico. We stopped at those places for comic books in our 57 Chevy, it kept my sister and me happy during the long drive.we would refill our lister radiator bag that hung on the front of our car with water.great memories

Those caves are amazing, such a huge piece of the past. Reminds me of the Crystal Caves we have in Wisconsin that you can go to & they give tours, tell stories. Pretty rad 😊

My brother once threw his shoes over the line and maybe six-nine months later he knocked them off the line somehow without them wrapping around and I shit you not he put them right on his feet and wore them. I'm not sure how long he wore them though after that but it was just funny as crap. I think he wore them for a few weeks
Every Summer we would travel back to our home state on Rt 66. We saw all kinds of things. So sorry it was bypassed. We always bought souvenirs and plenty of places to eat and have fun. Sad

I was just through this whole area for the last couple years doing u-ship work coming outta North Texas to that region and the west coast. So many Americans don't realize what a rich history we have in the Southwest. It's a shame really. Arizona and New Mexico are just loaded with these old trading Post style places and sadly most are closed or closing because young people would rather live in a virtual world instead of the real world. My mom who is elderly lives in the Ozarks of Missouri which is where I am at the moment doing some much needed repairs to her home and Rt 66 goes through here And Oklahoma. It's so cool. Almost time for me to get back out on the road working again and I thank you for sharing this it reminded me just how much I miss the traveling, it's a great way to work. Your office is whatever is in your windshield every day. Very cool.

I think Wallace ID. was the last place the Interstate came through. It really was a lot nicer for the survival of the towns people and the Normal Traveler to hop off the interstate take a break, have a soda and take a look around some of these older towns. I am to old to travel anymore but I remember the days when I would hop on a motor cycle and see the country with out seeing an interstate. People just don't know what they are missing any more. I love your videos, so many memories, and history.

as a kid my parents took me on rt 66 from the St. Lewis arch, all the way out. at that time two guns was boarded up and had signs saying they were seeking funding to preserve it. clearly, they never got the funding. when i saw two arrows by 93 im pretty sure the gas station and gift shop were closed. the death cave was marked, "no trespassing" and boarded up with chains to keep people out. i saw the entrance but there was no real way in back then. sad to see the vandals got to most of it, but still cool.

There was some guy camping there in an RV when we went. He took us down into the cave and gave us a little tour. I was glad to get to see two guns and the Apache death cave.
I really really enjoy your videos. I'm saddened that the Apache death cave isn't preserved. That's a piece of history but like Canada where I'm from we try and hide what was done. I use to to there for hamburgers before heading out to explore the country. Those were good burgers and the waitresses were always kind..I know Two Guns and Twin Arrows very well.

Loved the old 66 Route. Did lots of traveling after I got out of the service in 72. Stopped in a roadside shop/restaurant once and the woman who ran it asked if I wanted to buy a mountain lion cub, $50. Surprising to say the least. turned her down.
We have a stretch of old 66 in my state (Oklahoma) still runs through middle of west okc with lots of very old businesses that have changed hands many times but still active. I drove out to Cali in early 80s as young teen with pops and we stopped off on 66 a few times just to see, still had some gas stations hotels and restaurants but you could tell their time was near. So many great things on 66!

Was there several years ago,that was a KOA Kampground at one time,when we were there the pool was not full of graffiti and the walls were mostly solid, I was shocked to see how fast it is falling apart in just several years time being as how it's so dry all the time out there, the bath house still had the long KOA sink in it but was at an angle,seems to me there was also a filling station at two guns with a small resturant ,went there on the way to see meteor crater right off of I believe it was I - 40 .
I don't like zoos for that fact cages are horrid, and as you say in the days gone by they were so small. The cave gave me claustrophobia, glad you came out, I closed my eye at that narrow bit. Awesome tour, those houses have a wonderful view of the canyon, which river flows there.
+1 M.I. - Another excellent very entertaining and informative peak at the forgotten, as usual. I wish you could do a series picking up the beginning of what's left of Route 66, probably somewhere outside Chicago, and make your way west covering as much of the length of the forgotten highway as possible to its conclusion in Santa Barbara, CA. I realize others have covered parts of it, but certainly not in your get-your-hands-and knees-dirty style crawling through all the dangerous and creepy stuff. Think about it, it would be great! Love your videos, I’m always excited to see what you find. If you like abandoned places, there are some very cool abandoned race tracks in Europe. There is the old Monza race track in Italy, the old Hockenheimring in Germany, Brooklands in England, etc. Some even have the original buildings standing (Reims in France) and they have a lot of character to them.
I remember going across the desert, and seeing places like this when they were inhabited back in the sixties. Everybody would buy those canvas Desert Water Bags, and hang them over the front end of their cars to keep water for their radiators and drinking. This was back when water was free, and no one bought bottled water.
Broke down there once. Still have the wrench they made me buy to fix my car. Lol.

I took a trip to OKC once and drove on a couple of miles of Route 66. One of the best road trips of my life.

The history of Two Guns goes all the way back to the 1800s. It's quite a colorful place.

Every time you go in a cave, I cover my eyes and just say, "No!" Caves are definitely a phobia of mine! Logical Mind knows you obviously got out okay, but Phobia Brain thinks I'm going to see a death! LOL
I use to to there for hamburgers before heading out to explore the country. Those were good burgers and the waitresses were always kind..I know Two Guns and Twin Arrows very well.

I remember stopping at the Twin Arrows on family road trips, looks like I’ve aged a bit better.
Man it makes me want to explore some of the places out here. I live out in west Texas. I found a few cool places, and explored out here.
Loved the old 66 Route. Did lots of traveling after I got out of the service in 72. Stopped in a roadside shop/restaurant once and the woman who ran it asked if I wanted to buy a mountain lion cub, $50. Surprising to say the least. turned her down.
We have a stretch of old 66 in my state (Oklahoma) still runs through middle of west okc with lots of very old businesses that have changed hands many times but still active. I drove out to Cali in early 80s as young teen with pops and we stopped off on 66 a few times just to see, still had some gas stations hotels and restaurants but you could tell their time was near. So many great things on 66!
It is so sad that some people have to destroy these old buildings. These building should have been preserved and declared National Historic Sites.
I went by there over this past Easter Weekend 2020. Ate their in the 70s when I was younger

I'm way late to this party. I've thought about what might do after I retire and it occurs to me that I might get my kicks on Route 66 by tracing it from one end to the other, as best I can...
A worthwhile ambition, you'll wish you'd done it earlier.
Still quite a bit of it left. There are books on how to go about tracing it as much as possible.

Was there several years ago,that was a KOA Kampground at one time,when we were there the pool was not full of graffiti and the walls were mostly solid, I was shocked to see how fast it is falling apart in just several years time being as how it's so dry all the time out there, the bath house still had the long KOA sink in it but was at an angle,seems to me there was also a filling station at two guns with a small resturant ,went there on the way to see meteor crater right off of I believe it was I - 40 .

I don't like zoos for that fact cages are horrid, and as you say in the days gone by they were so small. The cave gave me claustrophobia, glad you came out, I closed my eye at that narrow bit. Awesome tour, those houses have a wonderful view of the canyon, which river flows there.
+1 M.I. - Another excellent very entertaining and informative peak at the forgotten, as usual. I wish you could do a series picking up the beginning of what's left of Route 66, probably somewhere outside Chicago, and make your way west covering as much of the length of the forgotten highway as possible to its conclusion in Santa Barbara, CA. I realize others have covered parts of it, but certainly not in your get-your-hands-and knees-dirty style crawling through all the dangerous and creepy stuff. Think about it, it would be great! And the drone aerial footage really adds so much to your explorations.

After the interstate opened all these places had to close down. I've been there many times when they were open. Many moons ago.

Love your videos, I’m always excited to see what you find. If you like abandoned places, there are some very cool abandoned race tracks in Europe. There is the old Monza race track in Italy, the old Hockenheimring in Germany, Brooklands in England, etc. Some even have the original buildings standing (Reims in France) and they have a lot of character to them.

I remember going across the desert, and seeing places like this when they were inhabited back in the sixties. Everybody would buy those canvas Desert Water Bags, and hang them over the front end of their cars to keep water for their radiators and drinking. This was back when water was free, and no one bought bottled water.
