    I feel like the essence of why this scene is so great is that Dante and Randal have developed such a cynical outlook on life while working these dead-end jobs that they're willing to over-rationalize and pick apart one of the most uplifting and optimistic pieces of fantasy escapism in pop culture, despite their choice of language demonstrating that they both clearly have very sharp and analytical intellect that could be put to better use, but they just have nothing better to do. I just laugh anytime Randal starts throwing around political terminology like "left-wing militants" to describe the Rebels as if they were a real thing.

    • @elultimosonador3958
      @elultimosonador3958 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      i think there are a lot of us like this out in the world tho. in fact kevin smith is arguably the beginning of what you might call an anti-american dream trend (aka anti baby boomer) in pop culture. the reason its "anti boomer" is because the boomers were the only real "winners" of the american dream. Generation X (represented here in mid 90s as younger adults) inherited an economy that was, for first time, on the serious down swing. And it all only got worse for millennials. So we start to see slacker culture play a role, and it just gets bigger every year. In 1989, when boomers were on average 35, they owned 22% of the wealth of america. By 2008, gen x was 35. they owned 8%. In 2022, millennials will be 35 on average. Currently, they own just 3%. It's a nation of dead end jobs now. This film represents that

      @@elultimosonador3958 Population growth means thinner slices of the pie to cut so there's enough to go around and yet quality of life has never been better (especially for millennials who's own feelings are now factored into the work force) talk about the wealth inside that 3% and compare it to the wealth inside that 22% and i guarantee you that that 22% would be envious of what that 3% has. The edgy demoralized grunge movement was founded in a corporate board room in the early 90s to sell music and died on September 11th 2001 when everyone came back to the reality of the world. Its never been an issue of wealth its an issue of growing entitlement under sheltered generations who's parents can pay for everything at an increasing rate. You speak like someone who wasn't alive at this time (so I would assume you're a millennial) but if trends are showing anything its that Gen Z has started to swing the pendulum back to a more moderate/conservative outlook as they grow weary of the whining you millennials were taught by Gen X. Appreciate what you have because the alternative is something you clearly no nothing about and should be terrified of. I know I know your prof told you otherwise but they've lived within an echo chamber their entire professional life and fear stepping off campus.

    The one factor that the roofer doesn’t take into consideration is the fact that the Empire was an authoritarian government, therefore many of those contractors were likely coerced into taking he job, or at least implicitly threaten if they refused the contract.

    • @bendu8282
      @bendu8282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@archiiebarrett Yeah I mean George Lucas was a 60’s Liberal but I’m pretty sure The Rebellion were freedom fighters against an oppressive empire. I think this goes beyond rightwing or leftwing politics. The Rebellion had cultures with monarchies, Lords & Presidents supporting them, not sure all those reflect leftwing beliefs , politics or policies but George was partially inspired by The Vietnam War when making The Original Trilogy. In the end people forget that the whole point was everyone coming together to stop tyranny but politics was not the main point of Star Wars anyway. Star Wars is really about The Jedi , The Sith & The Skywalkers. The Lightside, The Darkside, Selflessness & Selfishness. It’s about The Heroes Journey. It’s a family drama.

Then asked , “What is Star Wars.?” What kind of open ended N.Korean, question is that!? I asked him if he’s ever heard of a light saber or the Force and he said no☠️. The most simplest explanation w/o going down a rabbit hole of Star Wars lore and its 45 yrs of influence in pop culture was, “It’s a series of sci/fi adventure movies that sticks to the basic hero’s journey motifs for its core characters not unlike well known greek mythology stories but as if a spaghetti western was was painted over w/ spaceships instead of wagons and horses and space was the Wild West. That still doesn't make it any better and since adding Rogue One to this universe it showed that the Rebels literally had a win placed in their lap because they didn't even believe in the death star the first time Anytime a movie or a show or a game has where you had to warn a group of political people that death and Dume is coming and all they say is nope nope nope until it's at their doorstep Then they fire from the hip with some weird janky plan

    It's funny cuz no one's right. It's all bs. Dante thinks that's the point, the destruction of the second death star was a victory for the rebels: everyone wins. The roofer justifies the innocent deaths just because he has authority on the subject. Randal doesn't believe the ends justify the means; They should've waited till the death star was completed to avoid as many innocent casualties as possible, even if that meant the possibility of entire planets being vaporized. Just like the train problem, switching the tracks you're actively killing people, should only be trying to stop the train
    And then to top it all off, it's about a sci-fi movie. Way to make good conversation out of a mundane day-to-day, shows how interesting people can be. Even when talking about nothing

    Dante: Infinity War

    Dante: Infinity War had a better Ending

    Randall is wrong by the way, everyone knows episode five is the superior film, it's why every single franchise tries to copy it, it's not blasphemy at all, if anything his opinions are blasphemy

      Yeah I mean as much as I like ROTJ for what it is I'd still stand by like Empire being the best of the Original Trilogy and is considered an example of one of the few film sequels that is actually better than the first one I mean most film sequels are almost always inferior to the first but Empire is one of the few examples of a sequel outclassing the first one in film history
