@@MikhailChelpon ok let's see when they got there, McHale was an ok big man with pretty good post work got most of his points from assists from Bird, Ainge was a 3 sport athlete in college and I would say a decent guard possibly average got most of his points from passes from Bird, Parish was an ok rebounder but got most of his points from dishes from Bird, same goes for Maxwell, should I keep going or do you get the point? Without Bird none of those players were never going to be hall of famers. Dj might have made it for defense but I don't know and Walton might have made it for his time with the blazers but again I'm skeptical.
You are so right - that article made him mad! If they had kept that up with nasty articles every week he might have stayed playing even with his back in a cast. And won! (because he's a legend for real)
During the summer before his rookie season, Bird played a casual game of softball. In one moment, his brother Mike's knuckleball struck the right index finger of Larry, who immediately dropped the ball. His finger was MESSED UP! In fact, the doctors said NOT to clear Larry Bird to play in the NBA his rookie year (the same year where he turned around the fortunes of the Boston Celtics coming off their worst year - AND the NBA who would have had to rely on Magic alone). The doctor(s) were very wrong and underestimated the legendary resiliency of Larry Joe Bird.
Larry was just different. He had a competitive love of the game, and a great respect for anyone that came close to doing a good job of guarding him. Watch Larry playing a high school or college game, where he and his team win. He was even more impressive! He broke his knuckle and finger, on his right hand (also his dominant hand,) and had to have surgery on it right away. This happened a few months before training camp was supposed to start for the ‘79 Season. When the doctors and trainers, for the Celtics, got wind of how severe his injury was, and examined him, they said he was damaged goods. Red took him down to the court and had him shoot from wherever he wanted to. Every shot went in, no matter how difficult. Red told Larry, “you look fine to me, kid.” So, he would’ve been even better, but I believe that may be why he can play left handed too. He may just be ambidextrous, but I know I’ve broken my dominant hand/arm several times, and I’m ambidextrous. I’ve always been curious if it’s more often a learned condition, or congenital, because my grandmother was also ambidextrous, and I don’t believe she ever broke her arms or wrists/hands. He had to have several surgeries on that finger over the years.
Yes Bird was Ambidextrous; Infact He Eats & Writes with His Left Hand. But Playing Sports & Doing some other things He was always More Dominant with His Right Hand. Like You Said Bird Was Just A Different Kind of Player.😂
@@gailshepard-cook3257 Thank you! I never knew that. I’m left-handed with writing and eating, but I also played sports with my right hand. I think it’s because they never had good left-handed scissors, and rarely had any gloves for baseball. My right got stronger.
Larry wasn’t just trash talking. If someone can tell you what he is going to do to you and do it, they are “Schooling”you. Larry was always a great teacher😂 That in itself is another level of greatness, and his extreme confidence to pull off those clutch shots when the game was on the line. When you are on another level like Larry was I am sure he could have scored way more points per game if he wanted to. This game he wasn’t feeling good and has been hurting, but he made sure he was going to put that aside to teach the rookie that broke his records. It was the same later in his career when Jordan was on the court motivated him.
Here's a story. He mangled his hand playing baseball with his fam & said he never had the same touch on his shot after. Also look up his life, his family, his dad, & bill walton showing up to his house after the championship. You're welcome & looking forward to you covering it.
He was amazing. You look up Larry bird iconic saying. It's funny story about white guys guarding him. There also was a funny one about his 60 point game where the guys on the Atlantic team talk about that game. Keep watching
Bird and Magic were the best I ever seen play the game... great reaction...if you get a chance watch some Highlights on Len Bias 🙏...He was a Maryland Marvel... tremendous baller.. one of the greatest I ever seen play... sadly he passed away way to early, before he was to enter the NBA...he always reminded me of the greats I grew up with....I kept up with him in college and he was really something special on the hardwood🪄✨ thank you so much my friend
Shawn Kemp beat my future high school in the state semifinals with ease. It was one of the best performances I saw in Indiana high school. That year had Shawn Kemp, Damon Bailey, and Glenn Robinson all in the state finals. My future high school Anderson High School was the only one not to have a future college or NBA star and Shawn dominated us.
It wasn't exactly evil when it came to bird offering people to visit his place. He genuinely tried to teach players how to play at NBA level. It was not just kemp either. Magic and even MJ spent time with Bird too. Bird in many ways I think helped to train some of the best rookies in the league into the pros we know today. If they had holes in their game he showed them how to close that hole so they would in turn give him the competitive game he liked most. He hates facing people that give him no challenges. In many ways I see this as kemp getting his first big intro on what the difference is between high school basketball vs college basketball vs NBA. He gave him a peek at the kind of future competition he would face down the road. People like MJ would pull similar tricks on him if he didn't up his game.
You are spot on with what you said about if Bird never got hurt. He would be in the argument for the actual goat. Other thing that nobody talks about is that the Celtics lost 2 too players to u timely deaths during his career that would have certainly helped him to potentially more titles. Len Bias and Reggie Lewis
Before the GOAT talk gets outta hand, let's remember that Boston is one of the smallest big cities to support all the 4 major sports with a team. And Boston is not NOT a media town like New York and.LA and now Atlanta. Throw Chicago in there too. Now, only the Yankees have.dominated a.sport like the Celtics have. Take the Mikan Minneapolis Lakers from the LA Lakers and no one is close. Before 1957, there was no shot clock and there was a.jump ball after each made basket. Red Auerbach invented the modern NBA with his influence on the commissioners and refs. In 1955/1956 the modern NBA was born. And with Russell, Red had the final piece of his plans in place. The Celtics won the title Russell's rookie year and quickly reeled off 11 titles in 13 years. Why do I bring this up? When media town NYC won the first of their 2 titles in 1970, you thought the NBA just got formed. Like, the Boston who? Never heard of them. I guarantee you that if the Celtics were based in New.York or Los Angeles, there would be NO GOAT talk. It would be Bill Russell. Russell would be like Babe Ruth, the guy who did it all and.the rest of pro baseball was just different aspects of Ruth. But the media ignored the Celtics during the 60s, even though the rules were the same and the average.player was actually taller in the 60s. But New York and.LA had to find a reason for podunk little Boston ruling pro basketball. So they ignored them. Or blamed it on that warped parquet court. Or said Auerbach was a genius. Auerbach WAS.a.genius, who invented the a lot of concepts we take for granted today. But Red Auerbach couldn't go out and make those goals himself. He needed Bill Russell and Bob Cousy, the first Superstar Point Guard. Red needed.Russell and 11 guys who could score at will...if they had the ball. After Russell came, with his 48" vertical leap, Boston never.looked.back. 😭😀 And if the Celtics had had Madison Square.Garden as.their homecourt, we would all know Russell's greatness because New York would have.crkwned.him God in 1963.

If Larry never got hurt and Magic didn’t get HIV MJ definitely wouldn’t have six titles.
Thats too simping brun
Ain't simping if it's true bud. Jordan never beat Bird.

Not only Bird's injury, but Losing Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. Those three were gonna be a dynasty together.

Bird is the Word, man is the GOAT. I’m fortunate to have watched him live and these videos don’t give him justice
Larry has 4 brothers and a sister.
I love you Pzo ty for seeing why we went so hard for Larry Legend, Larry had 3 brothers and 1 sister ty Pzo I love your reactions ty ❤❤

WHY are you SHOCKED Larry had a brother? Most people have a brother or a sister. . .IT'S NOT UNUSUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep He had 4-Brothers & 1-Sister.
Xavier Macdaniel was very good.
I had heard about MacDaniel getting "BIRDITIS" and when I lived in Dallas Mark Aguire on the Mavs was known to catch that as well before games.
