Some of my greatest childhood memories were made watching Shelly Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre! You're right, that version may have been low budget but it was timeless, well-acted, and true to the Grimm's version. This Disney remake can't hold a candle to that kind of heart.
@@GeekMindMedia Rest in peace Shelly Duvall, she even said she and her costars loved fairytales growing up. I also can see lot's of love to the Disney versions in the fairytale theatre
This doesn't pertain to this new remake, but the original brothers grimm version was a nightmare. Disney originally spent line three years working on the script to make it less of a horror show and more modern. And honestly they did a decent job. In fact the original was so fucked up even the brothers Grimm reworked it considerably when they made the second edition of their stories. Just a few details from the original Grimm version: 1. Snow White was 7. Let that sink in. 2. The queen tried to kill her on 3 or 4 separate occasions before finally succeeding with the apple. 3. When the prince rescues her, she doesn't come back to life right away. The dwarves just give him her corpse and he takes it back to his kingdom where he has his servants sort of puppet it around for him wherever he goes, for his amusement. This goes on for days or weeks before the apple comes dislodged from her throat and she comes back to life. At which point she apparently decides, oh hey the guy that's been fiddling with my corpse for a while is probably husband material! 4. The Queen comes to the wedding of snow white and the Prince but they know what she's done, so they capture her, put some iron shoes in the fire till they're red hot, and then force her to wear the glowing hot shoes and dance for them, *still at the wedding* until she dances herself to death while her feet burn away. So yeah tortured to death as part of the wedding entertainment. 5. Did i mention snow white is seven? So given all that, the prince's nonconsensual kiss in the Disney movie seems fairly tame. Still rapey necrophilia, but much less protracted. Also the queen dies off screen as a result of her own violence.
I’ll probably get the crap kicked out of me because I know I know we’re not supposed to blame Rachel for anything, but let’s be real. Her comments were not fed to her by Disney every time she crapped on this movie that was her her device of little post that she put out a couple days ago that was her Part is all blend on her part about the dwarfs that Peter the idea to make this thing the first place that you got three parts equal fault fault and Peter’s fault.
Honestly, I think we're all allowed to blame Rachel at this point. She's proven to be nothing but narcissistic, smug, and entitled throughout this entire run. You're right, not one word she's spoken was fed to her, these are her own thoughts spewed out to the world. As for Peter Dinklage, he's a prime example of someone pulling up the ladder behind them. Whether intentional or not, he's reached a position of prominence that influenced Disney to rethink casting little people in this film, and ultimately cost work for seven qualified actors. This entire film has been the perfect storm of suck from the word go. The fault can be placed with many people but I doubt they'll ever realize it, let alone own up to it.
@@GeekMindMedia I hope to heaven that you won’t think of me as smug or narcissistic when I say this, but I saw through her nonsense. The second she got cast for Westside story and went on that ridiculous rampage, getting angry about the fact that people were rightfully pissed off about the damn thing having no subtitles through half of it. She was like since that day and she’s only gotten worse. I can’t understand why people refuse to blame her for anything and when I say people I do not mean you or any other sensible person that I have seen on any form of social media and yes as far as Peter is concerned, he’s just as disgusting as she is no wonder they were palsy and hunger, games or whenever it was.
@@Leamichellefan2244 I'm glad you saw her act for what it was. I think (some) people refuse to blame her for her nonsense because, in some circles, it's not "in vogue" to hate on Zegler. But anyone with good sense can see through her attitude. It's a massive rookie mistake for her to hate on her fans and to act self-important on the red carpet. It sounds as though it may be her ultimate undoing and I say good-riddance.
@@GeekMindMedia I never liked the little twitch from the beginning from the very first time I heard her destroy a Broadway show tune I knew she was no good and when she got put in West side story through no actual merit I might add I knew things were just gonna go downhill and they did no granted I didn’t necessarily see through her nonsense because I cannot see you rather I heard through it but I get your point and yes, if you listen very closely to the smug arrogant know it all tone of that voice and yes, it comes through when she’s singing you have to listen very closely, but you can hear it. is there oh my Lord at heaven is there it needs to be circles on this? It needs to be trendy to hate her and I’m not usually one who goes for hating people, but this is an exception. She has earned nothing but that.
@@GeekMindMedia I wish there was a way that I could do a live with you or you and I discussed our low things for this arrogant little twat because not only would it be cathartic for both of us on so many levels it would be extremely fun and it was also plenty of those who are frightened to speak out a place to speak out without fear.
"Everyone is going to have their assumptions of what it's going to be"??? Um. It is called Snow White and the Seven Dwarves so call me crazy but most people are going to RIGHTFULLY assume that it is going to be about the very story that it claims to be.
Sure, remakes usually suck, and Disney is the Evil Empire. But anyone who really cares what colour a previously animated mermaid is a racist, full stop. Same for elves or dwarves or any made up mythical being. And for the truly challenged- we're talking dwarves from folklore, not humans with Dwarfism
The real issue has always been quality. For the last 10+ years, Disney has cranked out live-action remakes that 1) are vastly inferior to the original in terms of story and charm 2) are mostly unwanted by the general movie-going public 3) have been certified money-losing disasters and 4) are far more concerned with checking boxes in terms of messaging than telling a quality story. A character's ethnicity is, in my mind, irrelevant to the plot. However, when that supersedes the story, and/or ignores the source material (as in the case of Snow White), it deludes the entire product. True, squabbling over a mythical being's ethnicity is pointless but making their "identity" more important than the story or its source material is an absolute dereliction of duty as a storyteller.
I'll always love the version Shelly Duvall made, low budget but compared to this, it's beautiful and high quality.

I'd give this movie a Z- if the score card went that low!
