Great podcast. I purchased A Zamoyski's book and loved it..
Thank you so much! Yes, very detailed book.
Great work by our special guest, Adam Zamoyski, in this episode!
I'm still reading this book as we speak. Very descriptive phrases on the horrors experienced by the average soldier!
23:22 it is small wonder that Alexander himself referred to Kutuzov as "A hatcher of intrigue, and a thoroughly immoral and dangerous character."
Napoleon showed his hubris in 1812 that condemned a half million men to die. Even Berthier's pleas were ignored. Power is a helluva drug.
Everyone says Napoleon should have committed his guard and that would have destroyed the Russian army. Well, we weren't there, and Napoleon was. If sending in the guard was a sure thing, Napoleon would have done it.
That's an excellent point. I still believe he made the right call. He needed the Guard to get him out of Russia.
