Oh, I been doing some extended testing on missiles, the dumb fire is the best-ranged artillery, however, the cluster missile is very bad due to reloading time... let's say you can fire 10 heavy dumb fires before a cluster missile reloads and fire another shot. I use a medium turret for my missiles, for my Terran defence setup station, a larger turret (bolt/beam/pulse) destroys s-m ships very fast while medium dumb fire missiles turrets waste any Large-XL ships... and it is very easy to make missiles with the Terran station. I think your idea is good since I have only been using missile ships in a defence role or an extension of my defence station which also resupply those ships with missiles. .Tracker missiles' range is only about 5-6km sadly depending on what missiles it is.
This is awesome!! Thank you for this. I've never been a fixed fortified person which is why i'm sure people scream "SKILLET WHERE ARE YOUR DEFENCE PLATFORMS!?!?" But i bet they'd work wonders in HaT space and any other Xenon active sector. "Smart" missile ranges make sense when you think of engagement ranges thought. Making this video has opened me up to the idea of more missile ships.... Especially the Rattlesnake.....
@@T-Skillet I normally go the route for medium missile turrets now and lets Terran large turret deal with s-m ships. it provides more firepower overall. in out of the sector and in the sector, they kinda just kill stuff. Resupply is the only issue. I forgot to mention, the true engagement range for heavy dumb fire is 10-11km, and for light dumb fire is 8-9km. cluster is 10km. the missiles' effective range before self-destructing is what it says on the wiki.
Right! While doing this and reading the other comment makes me excited to do the Split start or whatever the poll says. I’m going to be putting more missile dedicated ships in my fleet
@@russauty4289 They are but only S and M class ships can use them. They hate heavy hitters and can be expensive at times. The Falx or Cobra would be decent torp craft.
I shall have to look into getting a couple missile destroyers in "L" or "XL" ship sizes using dumbfire _(Which I've never really used before either!)._ Before, if I've had any missile ships, they've been "M" class with guided missiles or or even torpedoes. Zip in, fire off a volley, get out before you get hit style attacks. So I'll have to see what ships I have and what ordinance they could possibly carry. And as I've just started a custom game where I'm allied with the Argon, I'm going to have a look to see what's available. So your video's been a bit of an eye opener to me. and I've played Egosoft's "X" series since X2 came out all those years ago. And I still have a soft spot for the good old and reliable Titans which got me out of many a predicament. As for the DLC's from Egosoft. Most of them I loved. But I just couldn't get to grips with the Tides of Avarice nor could I ever be bothered to finish the Terran one where you have to do the terraforming. As soon as I got to that part, I'd look at my options and then start a different game. But until that part, I liked the Terran DLC. Especially the part where you're sneaking through Terran space to get inside that semi derelict station. _Though I've died so many times in there!_ 8-))... So thanks for the video. When I'm next in space, I'm going to start to look at starting up a missile fleet with an auxiliary ship in the wings for resupplying them.
I’ve thought it was a little odd to not have a dedicated missile/trop ship. So I looked into what might work. However I will tell you if you do a fleet like this get an AUX ship to keep them supplies with missiles. If not they may wonder off and resupply themselves in other sectors. In the new series Fires of Defeat I have a hybrid of what you kinda see here. I’ll show it off soon enough!
@@T-SkilletAh! That's a good way to get me to subscribe so I don't miss it. So I have 8-))... I downloaded a "L" class ship from Steam a few days ago. Called a Drifter. I has just 12 "L" turrrets on it. It's a Split looking ship but is purchasable from Argon. Which is handy as we're _"BFF's"._ At least for the moment. Though _things_ may change once my fleets are up and running and I can kick them out of Argon Prime ;-))... But the Drifter has sloping sides and each side has 6 of those "L" turrets on it. Nothing else. Just those turrets. So I'm going to see if I can get one of them built if it can actually have dumbfire turrets. And, most importantly, also see what the storage for missiles is going to be like. No point having 12 "L" turrets if it can only accommodate 40 missiles.
I hate how effective missiles are, mainly because i find the resupply issue just too damn much of a pain in the butt late game with all the other admin stuff you need to be doing. Running into a pirate missile phoenix is always a painful event, at least until they run out of missiles.
That’s a good possible time for it! Lol I know a good amount of the older videos have pauses and the “ooo look at that moments.” Things I have tried to cut back on throughout the years.
The combat is just.. meh. really meh. Due to the way Egosoft makes the whole combat, it's really exploitative. I mean everything in the game is exploitative, from the fact that there's no limit in how many Ships a Player can have, to the super factories that create a galactic inflation over night. *sigh* I really might just have to make a Video just to explain what X4 and the whole X Franchise is doing flat out wrong. Cuz there's a lot.
I feel you even giving the xenon such short range so they're never a threat to the player is like... why. X4 feels a lot more cartoony than x3 / xr and it's all infantile exploits and weird plots. It's an example of ALMOST what you're looking for

Just grabbed sub# 524. Learning to play X4 myself, and your videos are super helpful!! please don’t stop explaining this complex game!
Thanks man! There is a lot to learn, but once you get it or get a rhythm its amazing!
ty for your X4 content. Ur guides very usefull for me
Thank you so much!!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Cluster missile speed is 36m/s? Are those things even going to arrive before the K gets in firing range?
Head on they will. In tests i activated the turrets when i was in range for my main guns from an Odysseus . Work well enough for me.
That was super useful to know! Thanks for sharing.
I'll have to try some dumb-fire missile shenanigan's on my next playthru.

@@T-Skillet It helps that they're really pretty streaking out towards the target. Bonus points for style.
Thank you. That battle at the end was unexpected.
Are torpedoes any good?

There is a easy way to resupply…. It’s multi-stepped but would work out. Use an Aux ship!
If only missiles weren't such a PITA to keep loaded on ships.
I agree!
The amount of lost missiles is too big, is better to use guided ones...
