    China has never offered any of its flanker variants on the international arms market as a concession to Russia. Russia was also not completely blameless in the way the original Su27 deal fell apart, there was extreme tardiness and unreliability on their part in the period of 1996 to the early 2000s due to the collapse of the USSR.

      This might be true, but Chine always try to manufacture everthing by itself. They even do it when their own product is more expensive then an import product with compareable quality. They do it simply becauce they try to keep the money and the whole chain of economic value in China. Trust me I work with people from China since more than 15 years. They buy at the beginning, but as soon as they identify a real nead or market, they instandly try produce it in China.

    China and Flanker are completed each other, in one hand China aire force fill the gap of defence system before J10 and J20 come out, so they will not be complete defenceless for several years. (Also get the russian tech which was still consider advanced at that time). On the other hand, these deal really save the russian plane industry, it kept everything going in trouble time. Also Chinese user do giave a lot of valuable feedback about the technical details, eg. early Flanker's weak structure problem, these feedback also help the Russia to design and make Flanker better. A win-win situation for both.

    The breadth of these programmes is remarkable, in this case this is leveraging an already remarkable airframe for more capability, notably China going down the F15E tandem config for the A2G role vs the side by side of Su-34, probably influenced by the Su-24 and F-111 of the 70s. This doesn't stop them from carrying on with more fundamental aircraft development. I suppose not sacrificing current capabilities whilst developing future aircraft Bravo another interesting post.

    • @WanderfalkeAT
      @WanderfalkeAT ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Tandem Configuration limits Pilot to WSO interaction to Audio, while the Side by Side help's immensly with the Workload, Communication, Systems Management. The Su-34 and the Ka-52 are the way for Russia. Impressive Aircraft both of them. The only Downside with the Su-34 is the rear visibility, but they have a Toilet instead :)

    • @vickydroid
      @vickydroid ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WanderfalkeAT You might have to ask operational pilots about that, all I seem to recall was that from a study of side by side v tandem in a 60's or even 50s was that side by side was psychologically advantageous for the crew's willingness to undertake and complete missions in the nuke role. Other than that virtually all modern fast jet attack aircraft in the NATO Inventory are tandem or even single seat (go figure) in any case if you missed the point of China's appropriation of the Flanker airframe for systems upgrades, it minimises the design risk if you don't radically change the airframe, I daresay that without an SU-34 to hand to develop a side-by-side variant for marginal operational advantage designing a wholly new duck bill cockpit for their attack aircraft would have been a pain, they took the less radical path of the tandem configuration.

    • @suisinghoraceho2403

      @@suisinghoraceho2403 Its also just less risk for the Chinese as they are just keeping the gross airframe configuration more or less the same so while they are upgrading systems they are not worrying about serious aerodynamic changes which will need to happen if they build a side by side cockpit (even if they have acces to the blueprints to an SU-34) they will need to not only reconfigure the forward control surfaces but also the changes to the flight control systems.

    If the training of the Chinese pilots and their tactics are worthy of this aircraft, the prospect of our fifth gen fighters facing a huge fleet of these and a significant number indigenous Chinese stealth fighters for intelligence and targeting is kind of frightening. I still have confidence that our Air Force and Navy can deal with them, but we may see some serious casualties in numbers we have not faced since Viet Nam. Btw, the reason why keep producing 4++gen J16s is that they are multi-role, having great payload, and are suitable for intercepting and long-range CAP missions because they have double seat, just like F15EX. A good parter of J20s.

The flanker series has very good maneuverability at subsonic speeds, but the airplane is very large and falls into a "trap" at supersonic speeds. The Flanker has poor roll performance and the airframe structure is not strong enough. The latest su35s and j16 got rid of it by changing materials and redesigning the aircraft.

      More like the F15EX and F15C because fellow 2 engines + the EX/J 16 is a 2 seater multi-role while the older C version/J 10C is a single seater dedicated air superiority

    Chinese military exports are ramping up fast. Watch for when China exports military drone swarm systems. Look at DJI’s $14,000 M30K drone including excellent optics, night vision, precision lat long target mapping, Laser range finding and laser designator. Now add multiple specialized drones including snipers, shaped charge guided munition release and suicide drones with coordinated operations quickly dominating many square km in 1 predawn hour. For the price Germany is paying for one F35 ($240 million each when including everything but consumables and future upgrades), China will be able to offer 17,000 militarized drones comparable to the M30K.
