Do remember that it's a lightshow, not a rave party!
I always thought the crowd was dead until I experienced an opening ceremony myself, only for me to realize after I was standing there like an NPC like everyone else. There was no time to dance, otherwise I would have missed the amazing lighting effects. Besides that, I think the lighting team wouldn't necessarily want us to dance, but rather enjoy the show they spent so much time on.
