Live or not, the emotion that she puts in her vocals is unreal. She's incredible. I really don't know too many musicians who can create that kind of drama and capture the audience so much. I mean that all in a good way.
I think she is very shy, and once the song begins she is transported to an inner world inside her, a realm of emotion and vulnerability... Although I love it, sometimes I even think it is bad in a way that she might seem careless to the audience and not connected with them, but it seems that's exactly what capture and mesmerize the audience as you said, because somehow we can feel it, too. She has experimented with different music, different styles, and I respect that. To be honest, I love everything she sings. I've got tickets to see her in March, but I'm hoping it's just a piano, a cello and Jewel's beautiful voice when she sings this song : )
