Honestly the online stuff in Engage has so much potential. Relay Trials was really fun, but it lacked rewards. I really wish that depending on how well you did, you’d get good because even after beating the game, getting gold is a painful process, and also we should’ve got more maps for that mode. As for the online vs mode, it was fun, but I wish the AI was much smarter. They all engage as soon as their phase starts. I wish that they handled vs mode in a similar way to Fates my castle where you can either defend your base, or raid others, except it would take place in the Somniel.
I mean, they expected people to grind tempest trials, which imo just wasn’t really worth it because you got so little and the bar was so high for maximum investment. However figuring out an AI team that was actually dangerous and making a player team that could deal with just about any AI team were both fun endeavors, especially because you can’t share emblems. I had a defensive team with a Lyn Nel, who was designed to be a real pain to kill so that she could probably fire off a astral storm even if she was entrapped, and astral storm was basically a guaranteed kill, and I had a refal that engaged with Ike, and had the speed to not get doubled by magic classes. So he was incredibly bulky. For my offense, I had a zelestia with Roy, so that she could be a generalist with ok combat and good survivability. I had Chrom Celine for Rally spectrum and a fast magical attacker. I had sage Chloé with Byleth and extra speed so that she could be fast and have 1-4 range with nova. There were definitely fun things with the mode, and I might still be on it if I had a switch at the moment.
Congrats on the summons pm1, I'm honestly not sure which refine I like the best because there are so many good ones, but if I had to pick it would either be Echidna or Gerik. Also, B!Soren showing up again in the notable summons for no reason, lmao! XD
I actually thought you would skip this banner since AHR is inching closer and closer and you would save the orbs for it. I really want both Caeda and Merric, but I had to skip mainly for the W!Dimitri merges, and I will be honest, pretty salty we're getting a free Attuned Peony out of all the heroes since I don't really need another copy of her.
For refines, there are a lot of candidates, Echidna, Gerik, Brave Hector, etc. It's pretty hard to choose just one because there have been lots of good ones throughout the time so far

Brave Edelgard’s refine was 18 months ago and she’s still arguably the best near save in the game. Honestly if the guy asking the question was gonna exclude “legendary/mythic units and Brave Dimitri” he should’ve excluded Brave Edelgard too.
Honestly should exclude all Brave refines since some were absolute bangers when they came out. I mean, who could forget the impact B!Ike had with the first insane taste of damage reduction or B!Hectors crazy refine who made him so Meta that IS released one counter after another to him in the years after. Though the refine is now shy of over 40 months old, Hector's refine still reads like a solid Arcane Weapon that many would like to have. People often blame F!Edelgard for the exponential growth in power creep but it might actually have been B!Hector and his refine.
@@Alector12Thing is, that Hector variant only really took off after Saves became a thing... so Henriette & Gustav just made him more valuable back when player phase was the meta and isn't too overloaded and enemy phase was a valid comp to play around with, even when he was dominant he wasn't an instant "you lose if he's on the enemy team" unit as he still had plenty of counterplay (AoE's, Savage Pain, let him PP your unit), not unlike today where you can't even take out a tank that you have an advantage on paper (bow!Chroms can't even kill D!Byleth reliably, even with E!Marth Deadeye prepped lol).
@@Mene0 You think Winter Edelgard is a better *near savior* than Brave Edelgard? The best melee nuke in the game right now is Winter Edelgard. She can kill Ninja Zelgius and Bridal Tiki. She has a very difficult time killing Brave Edelgard.
It really is crazy how simple but effective b!edelgards refine is. Everyone slept on it initially because there's no crazy effects but you don't need crazy effects, guard and stats are enough.

I feel like the thing is no unit is bad enough to actually be unusable, it’s just there’s tons that you wouldn’t want to use. The most unworkable unit is probably some beast that isn’t a cav who has a bad weapon. But even units with bad stats and bad skills can run ok at least builds. That’s basically what the summoner is. They have a pretty bad statline but are still usable because of their skill access.
@@samkeiser9776That would be the gen 1 staff demotes. Build one up and you've built all of them... because apart from stats NOTHING differentiates them from one another. Oh btw, the Aski trio are the absolute worst units, because no matter how many expensive skills or statweeds you feed into them, they're worse than a gen 4 prf-less demote with the same skills give to them. They're UNSALVAGEABLE. And the best part? I$ keeps putting two of them on certain quests for orbs and having to take out a unit that is way above their punching class, so you're being actively crippled by having to field a deadweight just to get an orb or two.
@@reishiki8682 thing is staff units have access to some alright skills and have been getting tools to make them comparable to tome units, they don't have PRFs, but that doesn't really matter when most gen 1 prfs are outdated anyway, only like a few gen 1 units have weapons that are even remotely good (Ephiram, Sigurd, back when older units could refine their PRF's into better PRFs of the same weapon) and even those weapons aren't good anymore. Also I'd argue that even though the askr trio aren't good they also aren't unsalvageable. For some modes that's worth doing too, because they are frequently bonus units. I gave each of them inheritables from grail units and they do ok with them, yeah they still have garbage statlines, but so many units get carried by their weapons anyway, besides even though they are outclassed by demotes, they are better targets for investment than most demotes because of how frequently they are bonus units. I think notably right now, Anna as an axe unit can inherit a pre-combat chip damage axe from Vigard and even though she doesn't have the def to win the def check, 15% foe's atk is still 15% foes atk, also it's always 30% foe's atk if she has color advantage, which the bonded heroes battles pretty much always task her to kill someone she has color advantage on.
@@samkeiser9776Except many gen 1 staff and dagger demotes also have it worse and come off as unworkable than over 95% of all other units because of their outdated stats and weapons/refines, and it's worse knowing that many healers don't have refines, while daggers who have outdated refines are basically stuck at the bottom of the barrel, I mean look at Azama and Jakob for example. The only unit that was spared is Kagero because out of everyone IS loves her the most for whatever reason, and she soon became one of the most overrated fates characters that people don't care much for now, even WT!Kagero wasn't at all exciting for a lot of feh players unless they want an updated colorless dagger.
@@samkeiser9776Except you can also give the same build to the same gen 1 units they come out with but do it better "because they can be merged, for additional stats they so badly need", they have no such luxury and so leaves you, again, with a worse unit than a dud demote And majority of the book 1 refines are outright useless nowadays. Ephraim? NFU literally breathes in most units nowadays. Sigurd? Pre-combat dmg exists. None of them are worth the effort to invest in anymore because it's painfully clear how Moneymilking Systems don't give a rat's ass about their obsolete trash and add absolutely nothing to make them even keep up without having to dump money for skills.
Idk if it's the BEST refine, but Spring Est's refine goes from a relative nothing (stats and debuff neutralization) to actually pretty decent (the aforementioned, plus Canto, -6 Def/Res and Exposure debuffs, and counter denial)
I was saving orbs for a potential griss in the future but i pulled 2 attuned ceadas to give pledge, guard and bonus dc to my tiki (why does no one have def res oath as fodder😢)
#Question What are your honest thoughts on the AHR results and voting gauntlet? Personally, this was the most disappointing AHR for me since it was a predictable outcome thanks to people pushing for the "Green Dream" meme and that many fehtubers kept telling people to do this, which sucks since there were actually some pretty good units this year. W!Edelgard is incredibly good, but lost because of the "Edelgard must lose the first round" meme, L!Camilla is also another good one, but somehow lost to WT!Claude who isn't that great anymore, N!Sanaki lost to a pretty ok-ish legendary unit, and out of everyone who could've won we're getting free bare bones attuned hero who has nothing but niche. It's honestly sad imo, because it takes away the joy from people who voted for their favorites, hoping they would win.
Personally speaking. I say you can also blame IS & Nintendo for making kinds of units that aren't in the main summoning pool. That's another thing I think contributed to Attuned Peony winning.
Good summons! In my opinion the best refine in history was the CYL1 refines, all of them honestly (except for Lyns). They defined the meta for a very very long time and were the benchmarks for their respective rolls for the rest of the games life

Splatoon is really fun. Definitely check it out! If you don't want to buy the first game, watching that story in TH-cam would be recommended before diving in.
There are a lot of contesters for best refine. Duo Alfonse might be my favourite. He is so incredibly tanky with a great special that can consistently go off with the right build. If I ever need a unit who can carry me through auto-battles, he is one of the go-tos for me.
#Question By now I'm sure there are a couple of units you've gotten to +10 and hardly ever used. But do you have a unit that's made a comeback for you, where you started using them regularly? I remember getting Camus to +10 because he's cool, but when I got around to merging him he kinda... did nothing. But once I gave him gambit 4 and aether he immediately started becoming a fairly effective mobile tank for me. He's far from the best, and still in some need of other skills, but it still amazes me how one good skill can turn a units usability completely around.
If you wanna look into Dark Souls you can also look into both Bloodborne and Elden Ring since they're made by the same developers. Funny thing that you mentioned Dark Souls too. I'm currently playing Elden Ring with my character modded to look like Lyn. 😅

I’m obviously biased but og Alm has my favorite refine of all time, his refine in his release turn him from literally teh worst falchion user to the best, I love how much the refine reference him in his og game and in such a strong way, he has nowhere near the power to make use of it anymore but the Refine held such a special place in my heart
Personally, I absolutely adore Kjelle's Refine, took her from being meh at best to my most potent Near Save tank. I'll give the podium to SoV Catria (added Atk/SPD clash 4 and Atk/SPD Oath 4 for more movement) and Nagi (my primary Far Save Tank, she got such a cracked Refine) as they are good cores on my team. That's my take.... I can think of plenty more, but these three are who I use for nearly everything.
I had a weird experience with luck on this one. I had nowhere near enough orbs to spark (spent it all on getting Alear. Idk why green showed up so much when I don't need it and yet colorless became rare when I wanted it. Power of apathy I guess). I did want to try Ceada so I was only going for blue on my free summons. I on a whim said "maybe I should try green" and somehow got Merric... at -spd +res. So I decided to use my remaining orbs to go for blue. I expected nothing and ended up with Monica as a pity breaker (exact same IVs as the one I already have). On literally my last pull with the last of my orbs, I got Ceada... -spd +res (again). I cannot complain, (wont look a gift-pegasus in the mouth), though I do wonder what the probability of me pulling 4 3-star Corrins in a row... A pointless but high I'll gladly ride throughout the rest of my day
13:25 I kinda expect the drunk serpent lady to end up as a dark mythic providing partial or full protection from pre combat damage from her prf skill, judging from her unit type and weapon effect Given that we already had the other sister as an enemy unit for a while and she's still not released either, i see it as likely since it would still give them plenty of time to really milk the mechanic prior to releasing the counter
The hype for Engage is still there! I still see it around, and I keep talking about it. Multiple factors made me think why to others wasn't like that. -Too many, like TOO MANY other games getting released that year compared to when TH released. -Engage is a singular story, so the discussion about 3H wasn't going to be similar since as well, they didn't did it with that in mind. -People who don't liked Engage going to almost every post praising the game to criticize it like its bad, pretty much put some others silent about it(Is honestly a very unfair hate) I think Fe4 is totally ready like Engage back then, but they're planning to release it after Switch 2 its available
I agree with you about Fates vs mode being really fun even though people had some crazy builds. Honestly I hope IS and Nintnedo brings live VS mode back someday. If they are worried about broken builds again, they should give every unit like only 3 preset builds that you can choose from that way no one can do absurd things and so it’s more fair.

BTW if your looking to get into dark souls, from a gameplay perspective I think dark souls 3 is probably the easiest to pick up and get into. It doesn't have as many rough edges as dark souls 1 and while it is a bit linear, I don't think that's really a bad thing since the whole experience is a lot more smooth than ds1 or elden ring. Darks souls 3 is also a bit easier than bloodborne or sekiro and about as many hours. Definitely my recommendation
Its gotta be Brave Hector for me. Bro went from utterly forgettable armor to king of the EP meta for almost 3 years straight. Most influancial refine ever by a long shot if you ask me, easly topping any Mythic/Leg or the formerly mentionned B!Dimi
I know it said no legendary and mythic refines but I still have to mention L!Seliph who went from a complete chump and mocked loser to one of the best tanks in the game. If he had savior skills, he would give W!Byleth a run for his money.
Well from certain type of mining, I think they'll skip engage and go back to OCs ,I wish an Engage HoF happens but I doubt it will Also,most likely, Julia will get her ref first, she's like the 3rd unit on the trailer while Ike is the last. And finally based, the AHR isnt really good,your choices are great,not that into Zelgius since Edelgard is better,but still a far greater choice than what the top 8 got.

I just no longer see the hype on these "monthly refines" anymore even if it's a character i like (TMS squad for example) because they'll just end up going from "they exist" to "oh they at least do something" now. Still not seeing any of the supposed Ashnard hype so guess that's just copium talking.
The hype of engage fell off a cliff after release. Even my friends who got the game didn't think engage was a mainline game. It felt like a spin off due to how forgetable and bad the story is. And how dead the somniel feels in between each chapter. Most of my friends didn't even bother with the dlc. I did. And it felt pretty underwhelming. Engage was fun gameplay wise. But really bad at everything else.

She's still good but best in the game is a strech. BrideTiki, NinjaZelgius and WinterEdel are much better

#Question I'm curious, would you consider making a video for only the all time worst units in FEH. I thought it would be an interesting idea to see some of the builds you would come up with for them, considering all the possible builds we can have now with all the new weapons and skills today. Many gen 1 daggers and staff units sadly qualify for this, except the Kagero/Elise bias ofc...
I feel like the thing is no unit is bad enough to actually be unusable, it’s just there’s tons that you wouldn’t want to use.
The most unworkable unit is probably some beast that isn’t a cav who has a bad weapon.
But even units with bad stats and bad skills can run ok at least builds.
That’s basically what the summoner is. They have a pretty bad statline but are still usable because of their skill access.
@@samkeiser9776That would be the gen 1 staff demotes. Build one up and you've built all of them... because apart from stats NOTHING differentiates them from one another.
Oh btw, the Aski trio are the absolute worst units, because no matter how many expensive skills or statweeds you feed into them, they're worse than a gen 4 prf-less demote with the same skills give to them. They're UNSALVAGEABLE. And the best part? I$ keeps putting two of them on certain quests for orbs and having to take out a unit that is way above their punching class, so you're being actively crippled by having to field a deadweight just to get an orb or two.
@@reishiki8682 thing is staff units have access to some alright skills and have been getting tools to make them comparable to tome units, they don't have PRFs, but that doesn't really matter when most gen 1 prfs are outdated anyway, only like a few gen 1 units have weapons that are even remotely good (Ephiram, Sigurd, back when older units could refine their PRF's into better PRFs of the same weapon) and even those weapons aren't good anymore.
Also I'd argue that even though the askr trio aren't good they also aren't unsalvageable. For some modes that's worth doing too, because they are frequently bonus units. I gave each of them inheritables from grail units and they do ok with them, yeah they still have garbage statlines, but so many units get carried by their weapons anyway, besides even though they are outclassed by demotes, they are better targets for investment than most demotes because of how frequently they are bonus units. I think notably right now, Anna as an axe unit can inherit a pre-combat chip damage axe from Vigard and even though she doesn't have the def to win the def check, 15% foe's atk is still 15% foes atk, also it's always 30% foe's atk if she has color advantage, which the bonded heroes battles pretty much always task her to kill someone she has color advantage on.
@@samkeiser9776Except many gen 1 staff and dagger demotes also have it worse and come off as unworkable than over 95% of all other units because of their outdated stats and weapons/refines, and it's worse knowing that many healers don't have refines, while daggers who have outdated refines are basically stuck at the bottom of the barrel, I mean look at Azama and Jakob for example. The only unit that was spared is Kagero because out of everyone IS loves her the most for whatever reason, and she soon became one of the most overrated fates characters that people don't care much for now, even WT!Kagero wasn't at all exciting for a lot of feh players unless they want an updated colorless dagger.
@@samkeiser9776Except you can also give the same build to the same gen 1 units they come out with but do it better "because they can be merged, for additional stats they so badly need", they have no such luxury and so leaves you, again, with a worse unit than a dud demote
And majority of the book 1 refines are outright useless nowadays. Ephraim? NFU literally breathes in most units nowadays. Sigurd? Pre-combat dmg exists. None of them are worth the effort to invest in anymore because it's painfully clear how Moneymilking Systems don't give a rat's ass about their obsolete trash and add absolutely nothing to make them even keep up without having to dump money for skills.
Idk if it's the BEST refine, but Spring Est's refine goes from a relative nothing (stats and debuff neutralization) to actually pretty decent (the aforementioned, plus Canto, -6 Def/Res and Exposure debuffs, and counter denial)
You can stack Res with Caeda to win the check again Leon, she can gain a lot of stats really easy that is absurd.
The Phoenix just wants to go scorched earth if you are a Fire Emblem hero and you dare appear before him with minus attack

I was saving orbs for a potential griss in the future but i pulled 2 attuned ceadas to give pledge, guard and bonus dc to my tiki (why does no one have def res oath as fodder😢)
#Question What are your honest thoughts on the AHR results and voting gauntlet? Personally, this was the most disappointing AHR for me since it was a predictable outcome thanks to people pushing for the "Green Dream" meme and that many fehtubers kept telling people to do this, which sucks since there were actually some pretty good units this year. W!Edelgard is incredibly good, but lost because of the "Edelgard must lose the first round" meme, L!Camilla is also another good one, but somehow lost to WT!Claude who isn't that great anymore, N!Sanaki lost to a pretty ok-ish legendary unit, and out of everyone who could've won we're getting free bare bones attuned hero who has nothing but niche. It's honestly sad imo, because it takes away the joy from people who voted for their favorites, hoping they would win.
Agreed, it's honestly sad how memes and influencers ruined the fun for everyone
Personally speaking. I say you can also blame IS & Nintendo for making kinds of units that aren't in the main summoning pool. That's another thing I think contributed to Attuned Peony winning.
My favorite best refine of all time is for me Female Byleth’s refine. Still happy that i am using her.

Good summons! In my opinion the best refine in history was the CYL1 refines, all of them honestly (except for Lyns). They defined the meta for a very very long time and were the benchmarks for their respective rolls for the rest of the games life

I think my favorite refine is Brave Hector's, I used him as a far save in AR for a couple years.
Splatoon is really fun. Definitely check it out! If you don't want to buy the first game, watching that story in TH-cam would be recommended before diving in.

Which legendary unit and non-legendary unit went from Zero to Hero with their PRF and/refine?
There are a lot of contesters for best refine. Duo Alfonse might be my favourite. He is so incredibly tanky with a great special that can consistently go off with the right build. If I ever need a unit who can carry me through auto-battles, he is one of the go-tos for me.

By now I'm sure there are a couple of units you've gotten to +10 and hardly ever used. But do you have a unit that's made a comeback for you, where you started using them regularly? I remember getting Camus to +10 because he's cool, but when I got around to merging him he kinda... did nothing. But once I gave him gambit 4 and aether he immediately started becoming a fairly effective mobile tank for me. He's far from the best, and still in some need of other skills, but it still amazes me how one good skill can turn a units usability completely around.
If you wanna look into Dark Souls you can also look into both Bloodborne and Elden Ring since they're made by the same developers.
Funny thing that you mentioned Dark Souls too. I'm currently playing Elden Ring with my character modded to look like Lyn. 😅

I’m obviously biased but og Alm has my favorite refine of all time, his refine in his release turn him from literally teh worst falchion user to the best, I love how much the refine reference him in his og game and in such a strong way, he has nowhere near the power to make use of it anymore but the Refine held such a special place in my heart
Harvest Moon spring theme goes hard
Personally, I absolutely adore Kjelle's Refine, took her from being meh at best to my most potent Near Save tank. I'll give the podium to SoV Catria (added Atk/SPD clash 4 and Atk/SPD Oath 4 for more movement) and Nagi (my primary Far Save Tank, she got such a cracked Refine) as they are good cores on my team. That's my take.... I can think of plenty more, but these three are who I use for nearly everything.

I had a weird experience with luck on this one. I had nowhere near enough orbs to spark (spent it all on getting Alear. Idk why green showed up so much when I don't need it and yet colorless became rare when I wanted it. Power of apathy I guess). I did want to try Ceada so I was only going for blue on my free summons. I on a whim said "maybe I should try green" and somehow got Merric... at -spd +res. So I decided to use my remaining orbs to go for blue. I expected nothing and ended up with Monica as a pity breaker (exact same IVs as the one I already have). On literally my last pull with the last of my orbs, I got Ceada... -spd +res (again). I cannot complain, (wont look a gift-pegasus in the mouth), though I do wonder what the probability of me pulling 4 3-star Corrins in a row... A pointless but high I'll gladly ride throughout the rest of my day
13:25 I kinda expect the drunk serpent lady to end up as a dark mythic providing partial or full protection from pre combat damage from her prf skill, judging from her unit type and weapon effect
Given that we already had the other sister as an enemy unit for a while and she's still not released either, i see it as likely since it would still give them plenty of time to really milk the mechanic prior to releasing the counter
The hype for Engage is still there! I still see it around, and I keep talking about it. Multiple factors made me think why to others wasn't like that.
-Too many, like TOO MANY other games getting released that year compared to when TH released.
-Engage is a singular story, so the discussion about 3H wasn't going to be similar since as well, they didn't did it with that in mind.
-People who don't liked Engage going to almost every post praising the game to criticize it like its bad, pretty much put some others silent about it(Is honestly a very unfair hate)
I think Fe4 is totally ready like Engage back then, but they're planning to release it after Switch 2 its available
I agree with you about Fates vs mode being really fun even though people had some crazy builds. Honestly I hope IS and Nintnedo brings live VS mode back someday. If they are worried about broken builds again, they should give every unit like only 3 preset builds that you can choose from that way no one can do absurd things and so it’s more fair.
Personally never cared for the online battles in fates. Felt like a lot of waiting around until someone makes the first move and then losing.

I'm so tempted to summon for a! Caeda after seeing her potential in combat against meta threats and doesn't help the fact that I already liked her design so much my favorite Caeda!⁽⁽ଘ( ˊᵕˋ )ଓ⁾⁾
So it was painful not to summon for her but double special is soon and I'm pretty sure ninja Snacki have a high chance of being there and it's my best chance for merges after she lost ahr sadly so I feel u PM1 it would have been so nice if she was on it the perfect rates to get merges gone :'( so yeah have almost 900 orbs and it feels a waste to use them now with Ninja snacki rate being on ds is so high!😭💖

BTW if your looking to get into dark souls, from a gameplay perspective I think dark souls 3 is probably the easiest to pick up and get into. It doesn't have as many rough edges as dark souls 1 and while it is a bit linear, I don't think that's really a bad thing since the whole experience is a lot more smooth than ds1 or elden ring. Darks souls 3 is also a bit easier than bloodborne or sekiro and about as many hours. Definitely my recommendation

I know it said no legendary and mythic refines but I still have to mention L!Seliph who went from a complete chump and mocked loser to one of the best tanks in the game. If he had savior skills, he would give W!Byleth a run for his money.

And finally based, the AHR isnt really good,your choices are great,not that into Zelgius since Edelgard is better,but still a far greater choice than what the top 8 got.

For a young character who should appear older, Lachesis is top priority. It's nagging on me.
I just no longer see the hype on these "monthly refines" anymore even if it's a character i like (TMS squad for example) because they'll just end up going from "they exist" to "oh they at least do something" now. Still not seeing any of the supposed Ashnard hype so guess that's just copium talking.

The hype of engage fell off a cliff after release. Even my friends who got the game didn't think engage was a mainline game. It felt like a spin off due to how forgetable and bad the story is. And how dead the somniel feels in between each chapter. Most of my friends didn't even bother with the dlc. I did. And it felt pretty underwhelming. Engage was fun gameplay wise. But really bad at everything else.
