BYD ATTO 3 - DIY Install of the Official BYD Dash Cam

  • Thanks for watching!
    My Atto 3 is a UK spec of the "Design" Model which doesn't come with the dash cam fitted unlike the same spec in (i think) China, Australia and NZ.
    I decided to purchase the parts from the below link:
    www.aliexpress.com/item/ 1005005255075122.html
    And perform an DIY install myself!
    It was pretty straight forward overall but make sure you have a plastic prying tool and also before you purchase any parts, check if the cable is already there, I heard that sometimes the camera cable was installed and only the camera was missing.
    Good luck if you try and install!
    Happy to answer any questions in the comments should you need help.

    Great idea but you should run the cable behind the curtain airbag at the top of the A pillar. It means removing more of the plastic covering the pillar but in a crash that cable will prevent the airbag from deploying correctly.

      Thanks for the comment! You make a very valid point here! I was very careful as to not obstruct the airbag and at no point did I install it in front of it.

    Great video did the car automatically add the DRV button to the screen when you plugged in the camera.
    I am actually the first purchaser it this car in the uk 5 months ago and was extremely disappointed the the top of this range did not have the dash cam set up installed. Even though standard in Australia Asia and India plus it’s 10,000 dollars cheaper in Aussie land and more in Thailand.

    Thank you very much for showing your work. I wanted to ask you, in which connector should you connect the camera cable? As I understand it, it should be in the blue connector, which is closer to the white connector, is that right? And if the connector is busy? should you disconnect the one that is connected and connect the one from the camera? what would i disconnect? Another camera that already incorporates the vehicle?
    another question, that blue connector, to disconnect it, has a yellow tab which you must press?

    • @BYDBloke
      @BYDBloke  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you were to look at the unit from the front, the socket to use is the second one from the left. Its a green/blue colour and if you have a cable already in its place then thats good news! as the cable will have been installed in the factory. I dont recommend disconnecting anything. Have you been able to remove the plastic near the rear view mirror? I wonder if you have the cable installed and are only missing the camera module?

      @@BYDBloke hi my Atto 3 has the cable pre installed but struggling to find the end connector up behind the driving mirror l have been told the the blue socket is only for the dash cam use plus the white socket is only for a rear facing camera. Where l am struggling is why when l connect the cable from Aliexpress which comes in a greenish colour into the control box in the foot well and connect the dash cam nothing happens.
      Have tried two different dash cams from the same supplier as BYDbloke uses.
      I’m wondering is it’s a software update issue since l downloaded version 1.4 yesterday. Will continue trying to fine the original blue plug but it appears to be tucked inside the sunroof control panel and cannot fine a way to drop it to get in.

    There is a rumour going around from a BYD Owners (Au) video that BYD may have removed the Driver Recorder app altogether from European models. However, I've just had my Atto 3 delivered but when I checked in the Apps list it appears to be still there. Fantastic!. I'm waiting for a dry day and some free time to install. Big thanks to BYD Bloke for making this video. 🙂

      @BYDBloke Hey. thanks for the reply! Wasn't expecting that. Love the car so far.. but still trying to get my head around many things. One issue I've had is with the radio and the DAB. They're terrible. The rep said avoid the radio and just use DAB, but that can be horrendous as well..breaking up all the time and coming out with hideous squeals! Do you have this problem? I just use my phone and AppleCar now.

    • @BYDBloke
      @BYDBloke  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@despicable866 I have seen a few reports of this issue but personally I am yet to experience it. I have only used the DAB radio so far and its been pretty solid. Have you noticed if it happens in a certain areas like built up areas etc.? Have you had a car with DAB before and driven around the same areas with no issues? But yes mainly I am the same as you in that I tend to use CarPlay

    • @despicable866

      Yes I had a Hyundai Ionic Hybrid that had DAB. Wasn't perfect but I live in Wetherby and reception is usually pretty good round here. In the Atto you can't use them at all. Hi BYD Bloke Chris here again but on another subject how is you 12 volt battery behaving with this winter cold. I have to carry a power bank at all times as the 12 volt battery drops it capacity in an instant and will not start the car. After fitting a battery monitor l could see there was a problem and have been promised a new replacement battery 6 weeks ago but waiting for it to get here from China.

    • @BYDBloke
      @BYDBloke  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, Currently I have had zero issues with my battery. Sorry to hear you are seeing problems.Can you tell me more how you are using the power bank to start the car? also, what kind of battery monitor do you have and how do you use that?

    • @chrisphilipson4146
      @chrisphilipson4146 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It all started when one cold morning l went to start the car and there suddenly up comes the screens flashing and blinking plus numerous warning and then total cutout of all screens.
      After two more incidents in which BYD RAC got me started using a power bank and getting nowhere with Arnold Clarke as to what was happening l went and bought one my self and on doing a TH-cam search saw this guy all having similar problem with the Niro and others.
      They all bought the BM2 battery monitor around £25 and it’s brilliant at showing what is happening with the charging and telling you what state the charge is.
      It soon proved to me that the battery was faulty having one hour before showing 100% charge at 12.6v and then 4.0v and the car had not been moved.
      Any way 15 dead starts with the power bank over 6 weeks and Arnold Clark saying a replacement battery was on its way from BYD now 9 weeks l said l could just go and get one myself and save the 116 mile drive to Glasgow.
      This went on and on with the excuse it would void my warranty then a lie that a new battery from another manufacturer had not fixed the problems they had with other atto 3 s in Glasgow then the final breakdown which ended with loss of functions on the ADAS system and loss of power to the steering and refusal even with the recovery guys power bank. Leading to a full blown recovery and myself left with no replacement courtesy car.
      That was one week ago yet BYD roadside warranty states l should have one.
      They now say it is a faulty 12 v battery but when l was told l would still have to wait for the new battery to arrive from China plus it’s going around the long way due to the Red Sea dispute, l said just take a battery out of the spare new cars parked at the back not sold.
      As obviously it takes a while for the battery to fail in my case 10 months and 6000 miles since presently it’s cost me £600 in car hire charges so far.
      Going into see them today round trip of 232 miles to get some answers but not happy.

      I would first purchase a plastic remover tool - if you go to AliExpress and search for the term "plastic auto dismantle tools" you will see various types to buy. In the video I use a orange prying tool. With these you can gently push the thin end under the plastic and pry it away.
