How deep to go with stump grinder?

How deep CAN THE stump grinder go? We generally grind four to six inches below grade (ground level). If deeper grinding is needed, it can be requested, although the price of stump grinding may increase. The depth to which a stump can be ground is subject to some limitations.

I don't know how far down the arborist ground out with our stump, but it was far down. He removed the mulch and put down topsoil and grass seed.
A friend recently had a tree removed but didn't get the stump removed. He wants to dig the stump, remove it and put a new tree in the same spot.

What could be used to permanently clean your protective shield on your chipper? I know its tough to get those clean but it would be nice to see through it and onto your work. Thanks

Isn't that the Madison City hospital? I'm surprised it has trees that big, seems like it wasn't built that long ago. Are rocks a problem for your grinder?

I typically go to bottom of my belt guard. That's 10" deep.
I got guys around me that just go flush. Couple yrs later after customer is tired of hitting it with mowing deck, they call me to grind it the proper way.
When I customer hires me to get rid of a stump, I'm gonna get rid of it!
A big name outfit near me did a bunch of stumps on local golf course, after seeing me grind for the VFW next door, the grounds keeper we be calling me next time. He wasn't happy with the guys work. One complaint was he only went 3"or less.
