What a great time to be in Duluth for ship watching! In addition to all the lakers, there was the Navy warship that was recently commissioned and now the beautiful Viking cruise ship. Way to go Duluth.

@@jonathanellsworth21 A German cruise company used to come to Duluth. My husband and I came up from St. Cloud to watch it come in. It was their first voyage through the Great Lakes. When they got to the locks at Sault Ste Marie everyone had to disembark the ship. It was one of the widest to ever come through the locks even though they built the ship to the lock specifications but they feared expansion. If that happened all the windows would break causing serious injuries. So several guests on board the ship told us how they all got off the ship with some staff and officers and walked behind the ship.

Since they brought back lake travel for passengers to enjoy traveling the lakes its awesome to see. I miss my steam passenger ships since they're cut up and gone after mackinaw Bridge opened in the fifties, but still it's nice to see history in modern times brought back. Duluth got to enjoy lake passenger ship travel like those in California and Florida see the Cunard liners.
