John was my Grandfather and raised me. I grew up in this house and heard so many great stories about the Christmas parties and the pickin that would take place during the three days. I was there for I believe it was the last one in 92’. I had no clue that any footage of any of them existed! So to be able to see this blew me away! So for lack of a better answer or the ability to actually express my feelings allow me to just say Thank You so very much for sharing this absolute treasure on film with the world. Seeing this brings me so much happiness and reminds me of the wonderful man and just how amazingly talented he truly was. From the bottom of my heart thank you so very much. It means more than I could ever put into words 🙂
I remember these parties as a kid. John's tour bus broke down I'm front of our house up in Michigan in the early 80's, and my dad towed it up the driveway with his tractor and fixed it. He sent the band to their show in the family station wagon and had their bus ready to go when they got back 😂 . They were friends for the rest of John's life, we got to go see his shows and hang out on the tour bus, and we went to a few of his Christmas parties. He was an incredible person. Strange to think about it all in retrospect, we might have met back then!
Amazing how one man could bring so much joy to people and get such a great group of friends together enjoying each other! Sure do miss John, what an wonderful life he had!
As I watch this incredible snapshot in time with so many beloved to us who are now waiting on the other side, it occurs to me, that this film is the perfect illustration of the saying, "THESE are the good old days." How many of those in this video all those years ago, realized how quickly time would pass, and that they were living their "good old days" right at that moment? It is a lesson for us all, that we are living our good old days right now, and had better enjoy and appreciate every single moment.
A privilège for a French Bluegrass fan such as i to be part of this great moment... Thank you dearly to share this video with me !! Bluegrass is Life !
I didn't think any video of these things were around. Especially so early in the history of Home Video. I have some cassette tapes from the 91 party I miss laid long ago.
I got to tell you, I may be 61 and drive a Katana750 pumped up, Had lots and Lots of women. I have to say after watching this fun, I've missed something in life.

When you’re cool enough to have Monroe and Acuff at your party
And one of the the nights I was there in 91 the Phone rang and Jamie said, "Ted! Get the Phone!" I answered and it was Bill Monroe.

Do you know the tune?
It sounded to me like Mark was playing Grey Eagle then a very fancy Arkansas Traveler then the beginning of Down Yonder.
I believe Mark was playing Dusty Miller and the Arkansas Traveler.

Chris is the gal in the yellow dancing Marie? She was in a back room with the girl recording and a dog too.
No. That was my mother, her name was Barbara. That’s an 18 year old me doing the fine video work. 😂😂
Is Marie the one in the yellow?
Does anybody know the name of the first song played (instrumental)?
Thanks Ken, figured it was some old standard I'd heard before, but what a beautiful version!
