My boyfriend lived in this neighborhood a long time and raised his kids there before I met him. I have very fond memories of our time there--even though it could take forever to find parking. I still loved it.

    Lived at 577 Isham street 1959 - 1968
    It was a wonderland!
My father prior, in a snowstorm described snowsledding in Isham Park off the wall out into Broadway across from 5000 Broadway.

I grew up in 573 Isham St. Attended Good Shepherd from 79-87. Moved out in 92. Neighborhood got a little too rough around the edges.

WOW! Fantastic Video Cole! I've lived on Park Terrace East since 1998 & Mr. J R Reynolds lived on my floor. Though I spent many evenings having dinner with him at his (or my apartment) over the years, it NEVER dawned on me to ask him MORE questions about Inwood. Sure, he told me many stories but your short Inwood documentary really helped paint a more vivid image of the neighborhood I call home. Thank You for educating me (and others who will be fortunate enough to see this video). Cheers!!

I was a kid living on Park Terrace West in the 40's, and still recall the good times we had in Isham Park. We sledded and skied on the hill next to Isham Gardens (the large apartment building next to the park). When one ventured onto the well kept lawn across from Isham Gardens (to the East), a close eye had to kept to avoid the part attendants ("Parkies"), who aggressively chased away anyone who stepped on the grass.
There was even a working drinking fountain in the park, and after the mansion was destroyed, the greenhouses were still there, and I assume growing plants for the park. Fond memories.

English is a funny thing. eye land, eye ham, is land , is ham, "ishem" , surely not eye sham

it's a family name and the family pronounces it "EYE". Everyone who moves here makes the mistake of pronouncing it "ISH" when they first come uptown, myself included.

What a wonderful story about Isham park and the incredible family that donated their land for future generations. I'm sure at the time they could have sold it to developers, but alas, there are people who see the value of nature and all that it offers. I frequented the park while growing up in Inwood, then years later I would stroll with my infant son in his baby carriage never realizing the park's history. Wonderful documentary!
