I know we bugged you about this forever and it was probably exhausting to hear but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PLAYING THIS GAME!
was going to like this post but the like was at 69 and I didnt want to break it
hit em with the mario
@@alphacode5 as soon as I typed it I thought of that tbh lmao
I literally just finished my own first play through of Signalis so thanks for taking so long so that I could watch this fresh!
My 2022 game of the year for sure, an amazing ride
Jesse going "ara ara" is something I didn't know I needed, but now that he did that, I feel like a more complete person.
23:05 Thank you, for knowing at all. Robert Chambers was the name of the writer (its close enough to Browning). Technically it didn't get looped into the Cthulhu Mythos so much as... Robert Chambers predated H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft borrowed/took inspiration from Chambers, which is why some of Chambers' work ends up in the Mythos. And then Chambers borrowed/took inspiration from Ambrose Bierce, who predated him. Bierce was the pioneer of weird/cosmic horror in the west. So some of Bierce's stuff ends up in the Mythos as well, like the city of Carcosa (which both Chambers and Lovecraft later lifted, name and all).
So, the names for the types of REPLIKA are german names of birds. At time of writing this, I don't know if there's any special significance to these, but I'll update this list when I see new ones in the video.
Elster = Magpie
Eule = Owl
Star = Starling
Storch = Stork
Falke = Falcon
Adler = Eagle
Kolibri = Hummingbird
Ara = Macaw
Magpies collect shiny objects and bring them back to their nests just like we bring items to safe areas.
Jesse: "SCHNELL"
Davis: "you've played a WWII game"
Jesse: "Yes"
That got me good 😂🤣
This game has
"future Gentlemen's-Gaming-Club video but you just don't know it yet"
written all over it.
I hope Santel is watching
Santel is always watching over us
SGS is TO THIS DAY is one of the few things i watch religiously. and i would do it ALL OVER AGAIN. 🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you :)
This is EXACTLY what my brain needs after going numb from the strain of staring at unfinished uni work all day. Perfect timing, boys!
holy shit almost 3 hours of signalis with the SGS. the stars have aligned
And this is just part 1 too 😊
Alex was referring specifically to Fire Emblem Awakening, where the characters don't have feet. It was not a stylistic choices, the devs weren't sure how detailed the character models could get on the 3DS hardware so they played it safe by just not giving any of the models feet. But, it turns out the 3DS could handle the models fine so starting with the next Fire Emblem game (Fates), they started giving all the models feet as well.
Also, feet are hard - Rob Liefeld
That, or they got an angry fan-letter from Kojima-san.
Actually, they did have feet! In both Awakenings and Fates for some reason the character models were too low so the feet were submerged into the ground in most scenes, but during attacks they were visible.
@@EvilDrCatfish They don't really clip through the ground, they do a little but nothing noteworthy is hidden from view. After you beat Awakenings you unlock a model viewer and can see for yourself that most of the models' legs are visible when they're standing still.
The character models do have feet in the sense that the bottom of their legs flare out a bit and have the texture of a shoe, so technically yes, they have feet. I was talking more about why the feet are so small and silly looking and why they don't have any joints separating the feet and legs.
To be fair, the end of the 3DS life cycle saw games that DID push the hardware too much. Pokemon Sun and Moon for example.
Viewers checking the comments, this is for future reference: Franz Schubert's composition "Ständchen" (Serenade) can be heard playing ever so quietly in the background around 1:32:20 when they first enter the radio station (getting noticeably louder by 1:33:30 ) and continues until the squad leaves that room.
Everything can be played as far as i know.
This is in my top 10 games of all time, I have not stopped thinking about this game since I beat it!
No way! I’ve been wanting this for so long. You’re the best, Jesse!
god I need a supercut of Alex doing Rowlf the Dog voice. i love it.
Them discussing how nice the aiming system is amuses me as it's effectively the same in the Resident Evil games and the squad largely ignores it in them, to the point where I'm not sure they are aware of it.
Love watching my favorite boys with 0 reading comprehension. It’s my favorite pastime
Really like the puzzles in this. They do have a retro vibe, but also seem to leave clear hints nearby to make it less confusing than those older games. The only puzzle they didn’t solve in this play through I think they’ll get eventually. The gas, oxygen, carbon dioxide puzzle has ‘high/low’ lights on the left, which I’m guessing are a bit like the lock pick puzzle, helping you fine tune it like a price is right game.
I have to thank all three of you personally for picking this game up for SGS. It means the world to me to see you covering one of my all time favourite horror games and I hope you all have a blast playing it. You're in for a hell of a ride.
As soon as jesse said "oh BLUE is good" when talking about the health meter i expected him to say blue is in the goo like the good old days
42:04 that was a pretty damn accurate DK noise
I love how like half this video is just referencing PBS. Zoom, Reading Rainbow, gotta love where the scary games squad minds go. 😂
All the replicants seem to be named after birds, the ones i caught are:
Elster - magpie
Storch - stork
Eule - owl
Ara - macaw
Star - sterling
It's been a while since this came out, but I've finally gotten around to watching this series.
Looking forward to this and more of the Scary Game Squad!
How I described this game was a bit of Silent Hill, Dead Space, Resident Evil, Prey, and System Shock all in wonderful harmony. I love it so much. I didn't even know it was a survival horror when I booted it up (not much of a horror gamer to begin with), so I was horrifyingly surprised.
Finished watching your SGS playthrough of Silent Hill 2 last night so it felt super relevant when you referenced it during this! Always so excited when new SGS comes out, the only TH-cam channel I religiously watch. My comfort place. Thanks guys :)
This is the most excited I've been for a sgs since Silent Hill 2. Have fun guys this one is CRAZY
Just so you know - the entire game is 3D. You just see it from a top down angle that fools people into thinking that it’s 2D pixel art. That’s how the lighting and everything looks so awesome. There also are first and third person mods that work incredibly well since all it needs to do is change the camera view
Oh this game is perfect for the Squad.
YES! FINALLY! I WAS EXPECTING THIS FOR SO LONG
ACHTUNG
When Jesse said “explore the room” I heard it as an improv direction 🤣
SIGNALIS,
The star child between old school Metal Gear and old school Resident Evil, but was raised by old school Silent Hill.
33:09 okay, but the random references are the best. I am about the same age as the squad so I get a lot of them (like there was a reference to a compaq presario in a past video?? And i was like, ah yes, my first computer that could access the internet via dialup modem in 2001).
Omg, for the past few weeks, I've been wondering if SGS would ever play Signalis, and seeing the thumbnail made me scream!! Looking forward to seeing how you guys will react to the story 😁
I am geniinely so happy y'all are playing this. By god you guys provided a little bit of light in my shitty day by playing my favorite horror game.... Also y'all are shooting so many bullets i don't expect you to survive.
Finally! Signalis simply cannot get too much love!
Also: In Settings you can increase the number of inventory slots to 8 (and have modules not take up space)... though I'm pretty sure you've already recorded the next number of videos. so this might be too late ; )
**ACHTUNG** Don't feel too bad about the Incinerator Room. I think it took me hours to figure that one out.
I got the incinerator pretty quick but the damn pumps took a literal halfhour…
@@DeltaEntropyHow could the pumps take you so long..? The paper right there beside it literally tells you step by step how to do it..
@@Eventide215 I solved the puzzle before I noticed the paper…
I am finally getting to this series. I'm excited to watch.
I felt like I should stand up and clap and I've only just got to the title screen.
wow almost 3 hours of Scary Game Squad!
Interesting to see you guys play something somewhat German. Lots of birds btw. Eule is Owl, LSTR could be pronounced as Elster, magpie. Storch is a stork (well, that's an easy one). Star is a starling etc. Nice theme, congrats to the devs for this one so far
Edit: Thinking about it: Anything Jesse plays needs an Elster/Magpie reference. The number of times he goes "Ohhhhhhh, shiny!"...
I have now watched 2 hours and 45 minutes of lore videos and I am now back for my second... third? watching of these.
And I will not spoil anything, but I will have an eye out for all the details now that I am armed.
The note for the water puzzle was always there.
Jessie Lewis Cox, if you don't post episode 2,... I swear to GOD,... I'll only watch this first episode start to finish another 4 or so more times. You think about that.
4:08 "It's not a porno. It's NOT a porno."
Glad we clarified this, but still strange there was the need to.
GOTY of its year, no contest. My favorite part is all the theory crafting over who is a robot or not and that has nothing to do with the plot.
I’ve never clicked so fast *in all my life* 😆 Bless you Scary Game Squad for being so content generous lately - we are indeed very lucky to have you 🥰
I'm living for these hours long SGS episodes
39:17 "You're like a human Oreo" Turn me into a metal sandwich cookie, doc (there's a Live A Live throwback)! 🤖
Alex roasting the alt-right will never get old
I had just assumed they had already played this game, so they just never recorded a game they already played. I'm surprised that none of them ever check this one out
Great seen the boys playing, Signalis is a very special game.
Really like the update were the eye camera does use an exclusive slot. It was just a pain to lose one slot to do something I could do outside of the game with my phone 😂
Now feels useful!
It wasn't just the camera, the flashlight and basically any 'attachment' to the body now doesn't use up inventory space. It makes sense to have it that way as well. I always hate when you have like a chest flashlight attachment on games and it uses up inventory.. it's attached to my chest.. why is it in my backpack/pockets?? As for using a phone, what's hilarious is how the guys keep taking pictures of notes even though the game gives you access to every single note you've ever seen right from the menu..
Hell yeah Signalis.
This is gonna be awsome.
so many vibes, not just all the video games and movie stuff that they mentioned, but a bit of Evangelion in there too.
silent hill save red screen and jumping into random holes
Also love how the reading material acts as both lore and tutorial. And they are impossible to miss when picking up a new item. Retro feel but with modern quality of life improvements.
This is going to be one helluva trip. Lots of interesting references and inspirations in this game I hope the boys pick up on.
The best part about this upload is the part where it says Part 1
35:37 the boys pretty much figuring out the plot once again 😂
THE WAY MY HEART LEPT UP TO MY THROAT!! thank you so much for playing this, you will not regret it.
Yes! After playing Signalis for a bit and seeing how it's heavily inspired by Silent Hill and The King in Yellow, I stopped. Because I knew SGS was inevitable. I want to experience the story with the Squad first!
Believe me when I say this: It doesnt matter if you finish it yourself first or watch it, you will still leave with a bunch of questions and theories.
Ah, sesbian Resident Deadspace.
2:15:31 Yeah, no information...definitely not a list of lights telling you what to lower or higher on the top left of that module...no information at all.
I'm going point out that this game carries on the long imsim tradition of having the first code be or contain 451 in reference to the book Fahrenheit 451 which connects to this game very heavily due to its use of censorship
I would soooooo LOVE to translate and pronounce all the German stuff for you guys. XD I played the game myself and was so happy that I literally could read everything without having to use the "on-screen texts" because everything's in German. XD But your pronounciations are adorable!
edit: I commented too soon! Alex's pronounciations are pretty good! kudos to him :D
1:48 I don't know, the NPC you voiced was pretty cool...
This game seems like Metroid, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and Ghost in the Shell all mixed together into an amazing soup lol
I can never get over just how much Silent Hill 2 DNA was baked into Signalis. Absolutely fantastic game.
22:20 damn Space-DDR, would never have thought seeing that in a game
Idk if it felt like much of an issue to y'all, but the devs added an option to increase the inventory maximum. So if that ever feels like its getting in the way of enjoying the story, the option is there 👍
3 hours of SGS is a gift oh my king in yellow
"I am the boltmaster, are you the nutkeeper?" - rick moranis
had to stop watching because I think I want to play it instead. sorry boys!
One of my favorite youtubers playing a game by one of my favorite trans creators? Bliss!!!
1:04:12 good character arc for Davis, from not believing grok was a real word to using it offhand in conversation
I'm not really the type to leave comments or make suggestions, so just know that I make this recommendation in good faith: Y'all should really look into playing the game Blank Frame.
I remember playing this a while back and being so stressed out by the amount of directions you can go. Even watching this, I'm tensed up throughout lmao.
Amount of directions?.. the game's linear.. what are you talking about?
@@Eventide215 There are millions of directions to go in. Various corridors everywhere. I don't know what video you watched.
@@greenyxiI've played the game multiple times and watched multiple playthroughs. There's multiple directions but like 99% of them are one room then you're back to where you were. If that overwhelms you, quit life.
@@greenyxiI've played the game and have watched multiple playthroughs, while there's a lot of rooms, there's only 1 path really and it usually loops around. If you find that stressful you really shouldn't be playing games.. it's even a linear game *with* a map where you don't have to check every door but simply have gone near it for it to change on the map. It does literally everything it can to not stress you out by the "choices" and yet you're still too stressed out and tense because it has doors?? Do you walk into a building, see doors, then have a panic attack? lol
@@Eventide215 So you admit there are lots of rooms, proving my point. Thank you!
signalis is, imo, the best game ever made. im so so so glad yall are playing it
Here's hoping the next game will be sucker for love 2
I'm still scarred from this game. Remember our promise.
How did you not see the lights on the incinerator changing! Oh my god the 4 of you get together and you suddenly lose vision
Just literally beat the game tonight.. It's after effecting me.. I had to find all content to make sense of these feelings.
Yay! Scary Game Squad is always a serotonin booster!! I love you guys!
And all of a sudden, it was a great day.
YEAH! FINALLY! THANK YOU! HOLY S*IT! Love you Jesse.
SGS is the best! Long live this amazing squad!
OMFG THE PLAYTHROUGH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
34:31 I had the same reaction here where I thought my shadow was something omg
It's like 3 NPCs playing a game; it doesn't matter what they play - it's just to stroke themselves.
"If this gets weird" LOL
I love SGS!
In this the SGS lives up to their name and does the scariest thing of all, only using one save slot.
1:35:15 perhaps im going crazy, but when they're in the first person section, I swear I can hear muffled female yelling through the door they can't enter.
IT'S HAPPENING. I've been waiting for this forever! AAAA.
Watching people try to solve puzzles is my kryptonite. Them trying to do the incinerator while completely ignoring the bright colored indicator lights telling them what to do. Drove me crazy
Haha, yeah, that sometimes kills me too. I guess we are the ADHD generation. "Ohhhh, dials, lets just turn them randomly." But, I mostly stopped being bothered about it. I watched so many games with puzzles where people just brute force stuff, better to get desensitized to it. I think they will do it correctly in the next part though, with looking at the whole screen and not just the shiny dials.
I don't think it's necessarily an ADHD thing for me. From my point of view, Davis will listen to instructions from the other two for half a second and then just start hitting buttons he thinks will work, which inevitably screws up the puzzle, bringing them back to the start again. This is frustrating to watch when all that needs to happen is to just listen to the instructions. I just see it as a lack of paying attention which we all do, it's just frustrating to watch someone else NOT when you ARE. *see Pump Room puzzle.@@dodo7ger
What's annoying is instead of just taking a moment to look at things, think about it, and then do it they'll waste so much time just randomly messing with things then get annoyed with how much time they've wasted, or get mad it doesn't make sense, etc. Meanwhile on the opposite side of it you get the constant theory crafting now.. like every single piece of lore they pick up turns into a debate for like a minimum of 10 minutes about what's going to happen in the future of the game.. stop trying to figure everything out and just enjoy the game..
"this space intentionally left blank"
I GASPED SO HARD I FOIN CHOKED. BEST SURPRISE EVER, i rly hope they like it and they get the "good" ending
I don't know if SGS reads comments but Gestalt is the German word for human shape. It is safe to say, that a Gestalt is a normal human being
Gestalt refers to the sum of the parts that makes a shape or recognizable pattern, this can be used when referring to a human gestalt, but the concept is broader then that and used in that context in the game. Look up gestalt in a psychological or philosophical context.
As a casual fan of Transformers, it feels weird for Gestalt to not mean a combiner
Out of all the SGS guys, I never thought Davis would be the one to meet Danny DeVito.
I'm amused that me being Swedish means I can interpret German better than Alex who once studied it.
Swedish and German are simply somewhat similar languages, I don't really know it but can still roughly 50% of the time make an educated guess at what a word means.
Which is the reason many chose to study German here, I took Spanish simply for being being the most common language (of the options) in the world at large.
And, like many, I have now forgotten most of it. English, on the other hand, is a language everyone studies here.
Oh man, so much SGS!!!! So HAAAAPPPYYYYYY!!!!!
Holy shit! I gasped when I saw this. SGS is playing SIGNALIS! One of my all time favorite games!
Am I crazy or are those line symbols in the center of the 5-lock from The Fifth Element?
