    Terminal river area's are beginning to see Fall Chinook. If you do not have FRESH Eggs to cure for bait, give uncured frozen eggs a try. Cured the proper way, frozen uncured can be transformed into an outstanding bait to fish under a float.
    This week in the "Bait-Lab" Duane Inglin, Host of Fish Hunt Northwest, takes you step-by-step from FROZEN to CURED and shows you how to create a bait, that will definitely get it done...

    Do you think this cure is good for coastal streams and Columbia tributaries? I know further from ocean, they like salt and closer they like sugar, so I’ve been told.
    Also, would this work for coho or is there a preferred frozen to cure for coho?

    This is a great video! Question....do you have any suggestions on where to purchase high quality skein and have it shipped?

      This season, I no longer have a contact. One possibility, you can check with Columbia Basin Baits. They may still ship, frozen uncured.

    How do you dispose of the wet brine when you are finished curing the eggs?
    Thanks, I also like curing eggs in a wet brine.

      I actually just dump it on my compost pile as all the ingredients are natural and bio-degradable. All Pautzke products are made with Food Grade dyes.

    Do you have a similar recipe for steelhead eggs that were frozen before curing?, Want to use them for steelhead fishing.Thank You.

      Ed, you can do the same with just Fire Brine, BorX O Fire, salt & sugar. You can also add extra Krill if you want. No sodium sulfite.
      The measurements are the same for your BorX O Fire, salt and sugar... DI

      What is the purpose of the sodium sulfite when salmon fishing compared to not using sodium sulfite for steelhead?

    Would salt sugar and borax with water work because the pre made cures are way too expensive for me

    What’s the quality like once you freeze them again after the cure?

    • @FishHuntNorthwest
      @FishHuntNorthwest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is that they fish just fine after re-freeze, after curing..

    Will tuna in water work ok if i dont have the tuna with oil?

    • @FishHuntNorthwest
      @FishHuntNorthwest  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried it, but I am sure it will add tuna scent to the eggs. I would make sure it as really broken up, so it blends well..

    I am currently going through this process and it’s been almost 24 hours and some of my skeins are easily torn apart while others are nice and tough like they should be. Any idea where I may have gone wrong so I can fix it for the next batch.

      @@FishHuntNorthwest yes frozen uncured eggs just like in the video

    • @FishHuntNorthwest
      @FishHuntNorthwest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im trying to understand, when you say torn, as in they fall apart easily or when you pick them up out of the brine they are torn or look like the skein in coming apart?

    • @pimmpinjim895
      @pimmpinjim895 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FishHuntNorthwest oh gotcha. The skeins are weak when you pick them up on some my finger will go right through the skein and I can just tear them apart with me fingers and not have to use scissors to cut them. The skein and the membrane are just weak and almost falling apart when you handle them.

      Jim, I have never had that issue with frozen uncured. To me it seems like the eggs are just really mature and lose. You can't see that when they are frozen. Some might be tighter and a few lose skeins. Just my assumption. The curing process should not make some of the eggs lose and weak and others tight.

    Why can't you use borax instead of sodium sulfite?

    • @FishHuntNorthwest
      @FishHuntNorthwest  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sodium Sulfite is a proven bite stimulant to salmon. Borax containes no sodium sulfite. You are already putting Borax into the brine mix with BorxO Fire.
