Animals that defy perfect classification fascinate me! It's always good to remember that it's a human imposition onto the natural world, that serve very important uses within specific contexts but are still ultimately arbitrary. I love their particular defense mechanism.
When are Hagfish going to be added to Splatoon 2?? Nintendo, catch up.
You bring up a wonderful point. No matter how much we try to put things into boxes, there's always something that wants to break out!
Also, yes!!! That would be perfect!!!
C. T. Aigis hagfish classification is simple, the are highly derivative jawless fish and closest living relatives are lamperys.

Cool video! I learned a lot about this awesome creature I never knew! Keep up the good work guys!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Well, I wouldn't call them tentacles, more like whiskers or tendrils.
Also, how long do they live?
Both whiskers and tendrils makes sense, as well! "Tentacles" is typically used for the sensing organs of invertebrates; "whiskers" is typically used for mammals; and "tendrils" is typically used for plants - but when not writing for a research paper, it would seem they can pretty much be used interchangeably! ;)
As for the lifespan of hagfish - we're actually not sure. There's not much information on this, and we couldn't find any conclusive number to give. It would seem there is more for science to unravel here!
