I have always despised the molting time with chickens because most of my flock starts looking like they are abused, and it is embarrassing! One of the only good things about molting (besides the chickens getting prettier feathers after) is that I can add their feathers to my collection.
@ChickenSchmidtFarms I understand your pain, I recently started my chicken channel and now I have to wait until some of the hard-molting chickens fill in before posting videos of them.
Most of my chickens molted with grace this fall. Except one. She lost most of her feathers way after everyone else because she decided to go broody in October. She looked so cold. Then she regrew all of them so fast I didn't recognize her and spent a week thinking she was dead. It wasn't until I heard her specific cluck at bedtime I noticed she was still around. Her name is Chirp. She has a much higher pitched noise than my other chickens that sounds more like a chirp than a bawk or cluck. Hence the name.
Obviously, a hard molt is when a chicken turns up the difficulty settings because they want a challenge. Easy molts are for wimps that need to git gud. Their words, not mine.
When my biggest hen lulu started molting it looks like a mass murder in my chicken yard but for some reason my 9yrold road island red doesn't molt as much
Lmao. My oldest doesn't really molt like that but this time it was a bit worse. She slowly, over the course of a few days, lost her tail feathers one by one lol. She looked like a duck at the end. She had just finished brooding so it explained her bad molt.
I've seen that several times but I'm having a different problem. I have this one little hen that likes the taste of her feather buds and is always picking them out before they have a chance to regrow her tail. She has no tail and hasn't the whole year and a half I've had her so I named her Paris Hilton.
@yovamccoy2806 No an egg isn’t a chicken it’s a byproduct of chicken. Eggs are also great for chickens as they’re filled with protein and essential nutrients.

@@fatjellydonutglaze2230 I have a hen that is currently experiencing that issue. It looks gross!
We call this "A total molt-down"

2 of my birds get nekkid - they look like they escaped from the Tyson factory

Man, I love chickens, they are such cute little raptor birds lol
Chickens eating scrambled eggs takes the chicken and egg question to a whole new level
Also don't forget to deworm your chickens so there's not worms in your eggs😊
@@LizC-hq6tt Just don’t use fenbendazole when you worm during a molt!
@ChickenSchmidtFarms thanks for the tip!!!!!

Can you do a video and expand on this concept and practice. I never heard of worms in eggs if hens aren't wormed properly
@ Worms in the eggs are very very rare! You’d see symptoms of worms well before the eggs would be at risk.
i use pumpkin for deworming
This morning I’m serving my little ladies a pumpkin filled with ground Turkey and Pork
I bet they loved that!
I had a Rhode Island red that went through a hard molt. She has beautiful feathers now

i thought my chicken was sick but it was molting put her in quarantine she got better and feathers are back
My chickens are multing they have been multing for a couple months 😢 What should I do
Up their protein!
Sardines in olive oil made my chickens feathers come back fast and super shiny.

@@nathanhale7444 I would try a hen saddle so she can’t pull her feathers and boost her protein!
@ChickenSchmidtFarms I've never heard of that but the mental image was hilarious. 😂
Why scrambled eggs? Isn't that cannibalism?

Half of my girls look like this right now. Sorry gals, they look so bad.
