So have I and 2 of my friends. Those 2 played this game as kids just messing around, then probably about 2016 they gifted me HD edition and we played together, always just AI and almost always just CD Version, Games lasted 4 Hours, with 400 Pop Space, massive armies, it was a shitshow lol, and then we got DE, and were stoked when the Multiplayer actually worked correctly, and played it off and on since release, but usually only drunkenly on a Weekend against AI, and only about 2 months or so ago we started playing PvP, and it's T90s content that has sort of made that transition much less intimidating, and now I watch his videos all the time, often when I'm going to bed lol.

Btw if you're curious about the significance of their birthday being Dec 31 1969 it's likely they just set the date as early as it can go. Some things store time via Unix timestamps which have an epoch point at Jan 1 1970, so you'll often see that date (plus or minus a day due to timezone stuff) appearing in computers or on sites for that reason.

time_t is seconds in UTC since the epoch, so that'd be a horrible way to store data of birth, 31.5mi seconds in each year, so you're wasting space over a dob = YYYY *10000 + MM*100 + DD integer conversion.
But I can believe lazy/incompetent web devs might now use a single 64bit value.
But you never used to be able to do it that way, AOE2 came out in 1999,

The old pixelated graphics and old SFX still have a nice charm to them that definitely holds up to this day.

there's a few things i love more about them. The most important thing is that green was dark green, not lime green. I was a green main before DE because it looks sleek on mangudai to have the dark green reigns, and i am basically a mongols one trick pony. The bodies staying on the ground for a long time and decomposing slowly into skeletal remains was so freaking cool and added a more violent vibe I think, I really liked that because battlefield aftermath always looked so devastating and realistic. I do like the DE models more for the most part, I'll say that much for DE graphics, especially the building destruction.

The former gameplay design student in me finds immense joy in seeing these players come with so many novel, outrageous, crazy ways of playing the game - I love it!
I'm also tempted in maybe installing the game and playing online. I haven't played anything online since childhood because I don't have time to deal with toxicity but after watching from the sides for so long, your videos gave me more confidence in trying this out.

I think it will become more common to see older players of video games, as now there are those of us getting older who actually grew up playing them (I'm 42 now). Regarding Fatslobs months long breaks from AoE2, I know that as I've been aging, I more easily get burned out on a particular game and take months long breaks from it, only later to come back and play it furiously again for a while. I'm currently on such a break from AoE2 but still enjoy watching T90 videos, and cannot pass up a new Fatslob vid. Cheers.

That capture age zoom out detail is crazy good. The ability to have perfect frame rate that is. Just imagine if the new team could integrate that into the live game so we could have big games that had like fifty players instead of eight. It would be like a great game of Risk with friends. They would have to take breaks and continue in the morning. You would have to conduct your diplomacy by guessing who is drinking harder than the other, or who is capable of handling their drink while playing.

    Merry xmas everyone!
Honestly, I do not mind the old graphics! Some nostalgia is ok once in a while

My father is very similar to Fatslob, he's 60 next year and he plays one game and one game only, Diablo II Lord of Destruction and he can only play two character builds Elemental Druid and Summon Necro, never does anything else. Some ladder seasons he doesn't play, but eventually he always comes back and he always makes one of the same two classes.

My grandpa played MS Flight Simulator into his 80s with a flightstick. He was into computers pretty early on with the Commodore 64.

I love seeing the classic stuff personally. It's great that they're revitalizing the game and all that's come with it but to me Age 2 is the game that came out in the boxes, and I love that people still play it

It's so heartwarming to check on our hero Fatslob and see that he's still on his watch, exactly where we last saw him.

"Maybe it's the pathing that keeps people around". Yup, I don't really like history or war or strategy or video games. What really warms my heart is watching units bumble around and into each other while trying to accomplish a simple move order. AoE2 forever.

The devs should make an AI perform exactly like Fatslob.
