  • The idea of a bus museum might seem a bit dull, but visitors return to Long Hanborough in their hundreds because it's a very good day out., especially for children.

If buses were still like this today then I would still use them. I stopped using them the day they got rid of the conductor!

    Some people like a motorbike,
    some say a smart MG,
    or a bonny army lorry
They'd lay them doon and dee
    Those means of locomotion
    Seem rather dull to us

To me a bus is to get me from A2B, regardless as to whether it’s vintage or not, a 1950’s TIMEX watch did the same as a 1960’s TIMEX watch etc.

No need for museums and preserving things from our past then with your outlook.

Cars complimenting buses? Cars almost destroyed buses and trains. Cars are not really transport museum exhibits, they are motor museum exhibits.

    • @thatbusdriverguy4182
      @thatbusdriverguy4182 ปีที่แล้ว

Seem strange sure the compliment each other

    • @dancedecker

Whilst I understand what you mean, it is in this instance perhaps, more that VINTAGE or CLASSIC cars compliment the buses.
That said, it always baffled me how bus companies accepted adverts on their vehicles for car dealerships. Not sure how that worked!
Maybe they thought, "oh well, any money is better than none"?
But yes, back in say the 1960's, a Morris Oxford would indeed have been the "enemy" of an AEC Regent V, or a Leyland Titan, but now they are just homely, cute classic stablemates and rightly so.
All museums have to fight for every single paying, shopping and eating visitor and so any museum that can have more than one string to it's bow, like having classic cars as well as classic buses, simply has a bit more of a chance of being sustainable and survive into the future.
Hence a seperate but dependent motor car museum on the same site. Clever.
And I'm sure even today, any bus company financial director views a brand new Ford, Vauxhall, BMW, Merc, Kia, Hyundai, or whatever, as potentially taking food out of his or her company's mouth, but not only is that changing, with the car no longer having the biased monopoly on how ALL transport should be, but in thirty years time when there's only a few preserved examples of today's cars and buses, they too will more than likely, be future stablemates in a museum somewhere.
      Things move on
That's why certainly in my book at least, museums of all types and subjects are important to have and to support.
