    Love the idea of the Torqeedo but the price really needs to come down. Great video.

    GREAT REVIEW! You did a superb job of comparison between motors, Nik!! It was VERY THOROUGH! The 1003 is a SUPERB motor, but design-wise, I don't particularly care for the fact that you are limited to a specific, pricy battery-pack that can ONLY be used with either motor. Further more,..I wonder if the Torqeedo system's DC power is efficiently maximized by employing Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology? That fact would be nice to know! Thanks Nik!! GREAT JOB!!

    Having a slot on the actual motor casing to slide the rudder into would be a great help for making sure the motor and rudder are inlined.

    Nick, great comparison, thanks for sharing. What type/name/model # shaft mount did you use to mount to the rudder with, and where can I purchase them? Thanks again…jeff

    Great video. How much would you trim the rudder to bring the 403 up? Is there a minimum amount you wouldn't bring motor up. Thanks Steve

    But from the data online, 403AC seems have more range compare with 1003, is that right?

    Just got the 1103 last week and have been having trouble finding a way to mount it until I seen your video! Can you PLEASE let me know exactly what mounts those are so I can order them ASAP! I’d greatly appreciate it! 😀👍👍

    Can you desighn this with HIGHER than Normal PONTOONS so we can fish SALTWATER Offshore 20 miles with a outboard?

    Nik. Thank you sir for the great video & information. I'm looking for a motor for my Hobie Pro Angler 14 which is similar in weight to the Angler 360. When you had he 403 at about half throttle you were getting roughly 3 mph. Do you recall what the range was? I know on the 1003 you said your range at about half throttle was 24 miles but unfortunately for me the 1003 won't work (I don't think the PA rudder system will steer it and with the additional costs it's out of my budget).

      if you turned the motor with the rutter I think that would work.I just woundering if they will make that motor for the kayak

    They break the circuit up into three separate modules so you need to buy their battery which has part of the circuit you need to run it inside. This way you cannot use a generic battery and they charge you $1,000 for their battery. The cells are epoxied into the housing so you can't change them either. They also put the electronic speed control circuit in the lower unit that goes underwater. It leaks and that gets ruined. Repair is about what a new motor costs. They claim the 1003 is a 3 horsepower but it only consumes the equivalent of 1.25 horsepower. it cannot produce any more than that, its a 1.25 horsepower motor.

    Does the 403 and the 1003 have the same size pipe(tiller mount) holding the motor?

    • @bluen25
      @bluen25  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      OKFD they do. The 1003 is longer, but they are the same diameter.

      is it easy to break down the 1003
      I just got one complete and need to find a manual to break it down

  • @Moedy1

    could you put the 1003 motor into the 403 rudder mount?

    • @bluen25
      @bluen25  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moe yes you can, but the 1003 has a lot more torque and tends to knock it out of alignment. The new mount coming in May is designed to handle both the 403 and 1003

    • @Moedy1
      @Moedy1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nik Brown so do you think they will be offering the 1003 motor in an ultra light setup in May like the 403 in May?

    Where those clamps you used to attach the motor to the rudder purchased or did you fabricate them yourself? Good video!! Thank you

      They are hinge mounts from a transom mount trolling motor. They are pretty cheap online.

    I like the idea of Gheenow but ist not High enough out of the water to keep you dry...offshore can be tricky but you can own all of us fisherman if you get us out deep offshore water and keep us dryer,,,BIGGER taller Ponttons

    Thanks, this was useful. Can you tell me how much power the 1003 was using at 3/4 throttle and full throttle? I calculated that at a Froude number of 0.40 there is a single wavelength from bow to stern for 13'4" length of the Bluesky 360 at the waterline, hull speed should be 5.6 mph and an efficient speed that you got with the 403 Ultralight at full throttle with weight forward. With the 1003 At 6.8 mph that's a Froude number of 0.48 but because the bows are lifting thereby shortening the waterline that becomes a Froude of about 0.5, not very efficient for the length of the Bluesky 360. For efficiency the Torqeedo 1003 would be better suited to a 19' waterline length with the same resistance as the Bluesky 360 to get a Froude of 0.40. For the 1003 on that Bluesky 360, I'd consider extending the stern to gain extra length and buoyancy back there for even more speed at full throttle, and only run at 3/4 throttle for efficiency. :)

    • @bluen25
      @bluen25  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Craig Overend This is all very useful info. You are right that I should gain speed by extending the motor mount further back. I don’t recall the exact power usage at 3/4 throttle, but I will definitely take note next time I am on the water.
