Gravel has a way of traveling into places you don’t want it. A better material is compacted double-cut wood mulch. Doesn’t need foot pavers, doesn’t move, and can be tilled into the ground if you change your mind about the path’s location.

After going through a total drought and excessive heat here in Texas this year, I decided to take out my ivy, which was struggling and looking rather sad, and I replaced it with Canadian gravel which is a nice mix of grey, tan, brown stones. I placed two huge terracotta planters on the gravel with caladiums and ferns and I love it. So easy to blow leaves off the gravel. It has a nice , neat appearance and I'm saving time and energy and not wasting water, watering an entire bed of ivy which isn't really doing anything in this heat. I'm going more and more into Xeriscaping because of the climate changes. I rather have drinking water than trying to keep grass and ground covers alive in extreme weather conditions. You did a great job !!!

Thank you so much Chelsea

This is great, however the cats flock to my gravel areas to use them as a toilet. I'm changing to slate gradually as they don't like the bigger stones. I'm also going to put my stepping stones closer, as I think a person with ten foot legs put them down, so watching how easy it is to lift them out was good.

This is a diy trap. Looks good at first but will fall apart quickly. The wood touching the ground will rot out, the weeds will grow through the landscape fabric in 2-3 years, and there’s no fill to hold the gravel in place. Use good metal trim, avoid landscape fabric like the plague, sweep fill material into the gravel and make sure to compact to hold in place.
