Incinerator bins

  • Incinerator bins are a great way to get rid of garden waste such as dead branches etc. Whilst this is a fast and efficient way of getting rid of wood/branches please consider your neighbours before lighting the incinerator bin. Also please check in your local area that incinerator bins are permitted for use! Always ensure that the bin is hot before you try burning and branches or timber as this considerably reduces the amount of smoke produced. Brought to you by www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/video/

    The holes drilled near the bottom keep the air circulating which is one of the 3 components of the fire.
    Fuel, Air and ignition.

    i used clear gardens for a living and i found the foldable wire mesh ones are great as u can stack stuff outside in a teepee. working temperature is very important. when u have a working fire it will burn anything with little smoke and if u need to stop within 30mins all u have is ash that u can poor water on.It will burn faster than u can load it. There is no excuse for long slow smokers in the day or night unless u hate your neighbours lol. check wind direction and have bucket of water handy.

  • @FrankWoodPhotography
    @FrankWoodPhotography 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Here's an idea. You could cut the bottom off the barrel and a 57cm weber grill a few inches from the bottom. This would increase airflow dramatically and allow ash to fall through. Also it would mean wet ash wouldn't destroy the bottom of the barrel.

    Your last one lasted 12 months, any idea how long this one will last as it was never designed to be used in this way, it was just a cheap container for transportation of fruit so i doubt it was designed to last as long as the bin you had that was designed for extreme heat.

    They hole if you leave the ash in them, and then it gets wet, forms an alkali that eats the metal.
    Cover when not in use, will still eventually hole, but will probably double the life span of your bin.

    Hi i just bought one of the small ones, of never used one before and use bbq lighter fluid and paper to get it going and i think the bbq fluid is the reason it smoked like mad. Should i do what you did and just burn cardboard? I only want to burn weeds and grass.. Thanks

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would not burn weeds or grass, unless they are baked in the sun first to remove the moisture. Burning anything like that will make lots of smoke.

      Weeds and grass are a problem because of their density. They dont dry well and they dont allow air thru to allow combustion. They burn on the surface and smolder. Best to compost those...

    Thank-you for your advice on ads drills. . . Another quick question is it safe to use a galvanised bucket as a small fire pit ? I have drilled holes for air circulation. I assume it would need one or two burning offs due to the zinc? Thank-you

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the galvanising is not good for you when it's being burned off but they do make incinerator bins that are glavanised!

  • @MrTrustafox

    why burn all the twigs/branches? with the greenery around if you put piles around it would give environments for small creatures, fungi and when rotted down put carbon back into the soil. Burning it just puts carbon into the atmosphere. Or why are they not used in your compost you spoke of?

      Lol. It gets addictive this. Been doing it all day.
      Paper in, very small amount of lighter fluid. Step back, throw in cheap rubbishy matches that constantly die in the damp.
      Phwhoomph it goes up. Put lid on carefully, stretch back to avoid heat.
      Stoke it when it dies with an old broom handle to refresh the flames. Rub handle on damp grass.
      Always put water around sides of incinerator with a jug if there's grass around, dry or wet. *****

    in SHTF when the sanitation take-away has stopped, one starts to realize how much rubbish people accumulate. Having a burn bin is essential to get rid of refuse, human waste and the other stuff the sanitation department may have otherwise taken away!
