I honestly wish you guys would come back to this game now that it's a finished game, and get the entire story instead of just the early access content. There is sooooo much more to this game, and it's genuinely one of the scariest games ever. You really need to experience the full depth of it.

So, this game is a mix of all of the biggest names in the horror game genre over the past eight years: Shrine where you put items that you get by completing chapters from Layers of Fear, Sanity loss in the dark from Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and modern suburban house setting and waking up in a back room with tally marks from P.T.
Look, I just grabbed the most recent horror games from memory that had those aspects to them and were trendy to play this past decade. If you want to list every game that first had each one of those, then by all means, go ahead. I am aware that Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was probably the first game with the mechanic of the dark draining your sanity, leading to your character seeing weird shit. However, I know for a fact that ED:SR doesn't use a picture of a brain to symbolize your mental state the way this game and Amnesia do.
Don't forget Silent Hill 4: The Room. It's not like they're trying to hide it either, the chained down door on the loading screen was a carbon copy of the one in SH4, and there's even an easter egg where you can find a recreation of the titular room in the game.

"En suite" is usually only implied, and not expressly specified, with closets as typically a room can only be marketed as a 'bedroom' if it has a closet as well as a window you can fit your whole body out of (for [fire] safety reasons). edit: Just fixing some grammar; was bugging me when I reread it.

That's the important aspect of it, as you can go from one room to the other without needing to go out into the hallway first. Two adjoining rooms, but with a small pass-through closet between them.
Feelsbad, Jesse checked all of the draws in that room except for the one that actually has something in it. And that's why you need to check EVERY draw, no matter how many. Take the gamble.
hmmmm Afraid that is not the common perception. There are many kinds of Horror. BUT I will 100% agree, I prefer atmosphere and suspense more than stuff with jumpscare. To me, there is a big difference in being startled/Scared and be spooked/afraid. It is easy to create the instinctive flinch of being startled. FNAF is a good example on how you can "make a lot, using a little" but the scare also leaves less impact.
The lonely atmosphere is pretty well done in this game. Using minor sounds and effects to disturb you. Then your imagination does the scaring for the game. Sounds good on paper, however i've noticed this game had a very noticeable absence of danger. No sense that the squad should be hiding or looking over their shoulder. No sense that anything in particular was chasing them. This game has the kind of fear you get when you hop out of bed for a midnight snack and hear a random noise. Mildly creepy, but not scary.
This game is incredible and atmospheric, but I just want to take a second to commend you guys for being one of the few LP's of the game that gave such a good forewarning about the disturbing opening sequence. It's nice to see you guys were thinking that concerned for some of your audiences reaction, even if most of us are here because be love horror disturbing material can cross that line at times for some fans. So even though the sequence didn't get to me that much it's awesome to see you all caring for your audience that much

I saw Mark and Jack had played this but this...this is the playthrough I was waiting for. ALSO WOULD LOVE YOU GUYS TO PLAY DEADLY PREMONITION...It's Halloween and nothing will fill the spoopy feeling like some good old lynchian horror.

Or something like that it's mostly a theory cause the fun game isn't out yet but you already know its him cause he wakes up in his own blood and the house is ever ending showing that it's not real and you are in the afterlife seeing what others went through in the home.
The scariest thing about that intro was the gunman repeatedly dislocating his wrist while trying to aim and use the gun, and his vision impairment that causes everything to be blurry and jittery at random

I'll never understand releasing a horror game in early access, it totally breaks any immersion to see a content not implemented message pop up. What's the point if you aren't getting the full experience?
The point is for developers to stress test the game before its full release. Its evident that people are not being thorough while searching for items, certain keyboard/mouse actions are not very intuitive, there is a bit of confusion with accessing certain menus and otherwise. By releasing things early access, at most it gives the developers the chance to make adjustments that may have been overlooked.
That is what internal Q&A and game testing is for. Game developers have managed it for decades without releasing incomplete products for sale. Releasing a singleplayer story/horror experience as early access is simply a quick cash grab.
And yet Bethesda is releasing Fallout 76 for fans to stress test their game, I don't see how utilizing fans of any game in development is at all problematic, games get released a bug is discovered it gets patched. Releasing a game in Early Access gives people something to do, I like when fans see a game unfold, I enjoy their commentary. I see nothing wrong with figuring out fuck ups through actual players rather than testers. Besides that I like to believe the most entertaining people are the most creative in their playthroughs and the most likely to enjoy experimenting than having an immersive experience.
I also don't get it. Mostly you will probably have to play it several times, cause you reach the end of content and then in a second walkthrough it's not even surprising anymore
Bethesda is doing a BETA test, not early access. And clearly you don't understand the difference between testing a multiplayer game, which can actually require and benefit from public stress testing due to the fundamental online aspect of it. Singleplayer games require no such thing and there is nothing to be achieved for releasing it in early access except for a quick profit before the product is even finished.
For everyone's FYI, if the game seems way too much like P.T., the creator made it with that in mind. Its supposed to be like the game we never got to play fully

I have watched enough Criminal Minds episodes to answer this one. Maybe because he feels remorse for what he's doing so he's drawing it out? Because he kills himself after killing them. If he was a murderer he would probably stay alive and keep killing people. Or Im overcomplicating this and it's just to draw out the scene like Levi Phipps said.
I'll admit while the game hasn't really grabbed my attention yet, I am super excited for more SGS and hopeful that this game amps up the spooks so that the boys start to really lose their minds.

I preferred Jack's. Usually I love SGS, but recently, they seem to want to fill ALL dead space with nonsense talk, it just ruins the game sometimes, and they always end up talking over important stuff... it's getting frustrating.

*fun fact:* they dont coat the inside of a revolver's cylinder with ky jelly (though americans have been known to love their guns...) bullets aren't going to just "fall out" if you tip it towards you a little. you have to flick/tap it down most the time.

Im glade you guys picked this up. I was a little worried that you wouldn't get through the game. But after watching a few play through. And the game stating that it hard. I look forward to you guys just being scared throughout it.
I have to admit their warning about the opening got me more worked up than what I actually saw but quick deaths like that isn't the kind of content I get upset over; torture would be. So just an FYI if you're scared: It's of a woman and two kids bound and gagged on chairs. They are then shot in the head. It's not really graphic at all but I can understand why you'd want to skip. They are truthfully just being considerate when it comes to the warning. I'm not trying to be a cool edgelord when I say I've seen much worse in horror games.

Fawlkes Lessaariss Yeah I can see that. I’m currently 28 minutes in and they haven’t really been talking about the game much. But I guess it relieves some of the tension in the game. But I totally understand what you’re saying cause I was so scared in Jack’s play through.

I stop everything when I see an SGS video in my feed, I'm always so excited for them.
*fun fact:* they dont coat the inside of a revolver's cylinder with ky jelly (though americans have been known to love their guns...) bullets aren't going to just "fall out" if you tip it towards you a little. you have to flick/tap it down most the time.

Its a game funded by a kickstarter. A small company doing their best and trying to make sure the content is good enough.
I have to admit their warning about the opening got me more worked up than what I actually saw but quick deaths like that isn't the kind of content I get upset over; torture would be.
So just an FYI if you're scared: It's of a woman and two kids bound and gagged on chairs. They are then shot in the head. It's not really graphic at all but I can understand why you'd want to skip. They are truthfully just being considerate when it comes to the warning. I'm not trying to be a cool edgelord when I say I've seen much worse in horror games.
Their screams are pretty bone-chilling but visually it's not a third of the way to Outlast 2 or Resident Evil 7

I think it's the fact that this actually can and does happen that makes it uncomfortable. I've worked in an ED for 3 years and it brought up some unpleasant memories.

Uhhh... how about the fact that the DSM classifies psychopathy as a mental disorder that can cause repeat delinquency, crime and violence. Or did you think antisocial personality disorder and impaired empathy were somehow good things? Yes, not every single psychopath is a bad person, just like a person with physical impairments isn't always restrained in movement (case in point: the guy who climbed Everest with no legs). But not having legs and being a psychopath are still objectively impairments, regardless of whether some people are able to overcome them.
