Donny Schatz discusses his impressive charge to a runner-up finish in the Kings Royal at Eldora

- We caught up with Donny Schatz to discuss Saturday's runner-up finish in the 41st annual Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway. Schatz talked about not transferring through his heat race and storming through the field from 20th to battle for the win. He also discussed David Gravel earning the win, TSR speed, and looking forward to the rest of the season.
Great interview, Gravel was very humble knowing what he achieved, and Schatz created that.
If passing points got the win.... Donny was the Champ, fantastic result for sprintcar racing in general, And Gravel drove awesome.
Damn right Donny. That was a fabulous show. Tremendous driving Donny. I wish I could have seen it in person. Your charge to the front was of historic proportions. Excellent job. Congrats to Gravel way to push the limit to win it.
Donny has always been a class act, I've met him before at Charlotte and he always has time for fans .
Donnie you put on the show and such a class act just like Tony keep digging and you could surprise everyone and win the championship again good luck at Knoxville 🏆
You said last week Donny would be strong, right as usual, I was still surprised how he could pass so many cars. Great drive, spot on interview, class act!

If Rico wouldn't have held him up while lapping him donny would have won that race I was in the infield and that was a damn good race.
it was a far more eventful race all around this week then last years edition it was just too scorching hot, and they did not look after the track enough last year, the jokers jackpot maybe could have had more passing, but as it were it as itself had a event changing last several laps, first the leader scelzi catches the wall with 8 to go and then larson looses power with 2 to go and he was doing soo well, made for a shootout finish.
say what you want about david gravel but the guy is fast holds many track records, and I think reached the highest speed lap ever I think they said at rolling wheels before it shut down even more then they got at the moody mile in new york during super dirt week,
Donny though he is a living ledgend of the sport, one of the all time greats up there with the kinsers, the blaneys and swindels, hodenschild and the early multi car ledgends like hewit dave darland and doug wolfgang and maybe sweet I think is a save comparison.
I dont know though I didn't think his crew was the nicest though thats just me, and Donny always has that intimidating stare, he tells it like it is I think a straight shooter, though I think I find other drivers friendlier, even sweet and larson the owners of the high limit, kyle is just really really buissy and when in race mode his crew dont let you bug him, though I stood literally next to him for 5 minutes before the introductions and had I my autograph book probably could have got one,
did ask brad sweet though why they killed the allstar name and said well we just bought the assets it was likely going to have the plug pulled on it before much longer, dont know if I should say that though for the world to hear, but that is from the horses mouth, smoke was thinning the portfolio, hopefully though he will keep the openwheel teams and the raceway as he stated to shut down the stories during the latemodel dream.
I know he still likes racing even if hes still going in a straight line at 300 mph and running a few shows here and there like the rumble or occasionaly in a latemodel.
Cheaters gotta cheat.
