How Disney always manages to choose exactly the right people for their songs and movies. Fabulous. How bad my voice sounds when singing this song in the shower. Sad, really sad.
She makes me feel like I'm two people at the same time only when I hear this song, I can hear two females talking in sync to each other, until slowly their voices blend to create my voice. Strange
My Brother said "that the original sounds like a person who started to date the one they love and that this version sounds like the two broke up and are having memories about each other."
When I listen to this I have these strange nostalgic visions of a place and time nestled in the deepest imagination of my childhood. It may have never really existed, yet I can almost grasp it. I can almost be there again, in that place beyond time and space, where the only limits were the ones you imposed upon it. It’s beautifully haunting.

Purple Gazelle123 this speaks to me so much right now.. trying to get through a break up that was never truly a relationship. even though it’s painful, your words are healing & the reality check I continuously need. love & peace your way x
I can't believe how many people hated this version though. I mean her voice is so mesmerizing and I don't think they understood that it's not about Aurora, this version is from Maleficent's point of view. The movie is dark and about betrayal and heartbreak. It's supposed to sound that way.
+EmisonGirl15 do u like maleficent I love her she dead pretty I look like that I understand why put that that curse on aurora because she was mad at Stefan of he did I would be by taking off her wings and breytrating her but what mad me sad is when she wouldn't wake up and maleficent started crying I would and the song goes with it my fave bit is places the curse on aurora she didn't mean too she was just pissed off with Stefan I would for what he did but when he died I was so happy he disserved that he really did and also my fave bit is when she tries to take the curse back but she cant
Also, Maleficent's original character had no actual backstory and didn't need one. in the original when she fights Prince Phillip, she raises the powers of Hell against him, if you watch it, she literally calls them the powers of Hell. She was a demon who just wanted destruction, not a twisted fairy in want of revenge. The original Maleficent was truly evil and had no remorse. She was an excellent character. This new movie completely ruined that evil aspect.
Yes!! This song hypnotizes me too. My man friend Mark died suddenly last month. His family never told me he was in hospital . I had a dream he was, called him and told him I loved him. He couldn’t talk but “grunted” a response. He died the next morning. Always listen to your instincts and reach out. This song makes me feel that it is all a dream. I stare at the moon and listen.., it’s oddly comforting
I love how they turned Maleficient, the vilain princess, into a victim. Just a innocent girl borned with wings, who has been manipulated by a true malevolent man : a human.
i wanted to see Maleficent fall in love with the bird guy. Disney villains are never portrayed feeling anything, and I really wanted her to have a happy ending.
Well, I'd say she did have a rather happy ending, with her wings restored, the curse she had cast lifted and forgiven, the return of peace between the kingdoms of fairies and men... but I see what you mean. The ending was left somewhat open-ended and the exact nature of the relationship between Maleficent and Diaval is unclear, but I got the impression that it had changed for the better as a result of Maleficent's character development and her renewed willingness to start opening up again to those who are close to her. She set him free and it was he who chose to stay by her side despite everything. As a result, it seemed to me like she had come to see him less as a servant than as a true friend she could trust without having to control him anymore.
I love how there is no true, physical enemy in this movie. Greed, desire and revenge are the enemies here. I just, ugh, this movie is just perfect in my opinion.
Honestly though I kind of just wanted to have a Sleeping Beauty movie to! No offence to Maleficent it’s great, but I really wish they did one like the original version
This was a beautiful movie. I honestly love everything about it, while the original is amazing on its own, this version clearly has it's own ways of standing out and I love it so much
Lana Del Rey, what an amazing version of the classic song. Now your song has become a classic. Heard it over 300 times, and bought the soundtrack twice. What I found interesting is that I had people from 5yo to 85yo asking me who sings this song-all amazed by it. Such an emotional, and a bit dark song than expresses Maleficent character the best the best.
This song makes me long for my childhood and magic, which is overwhelming and I almost want to cry. Whoever decided to pick Lana to sing this is a genius and should receive the Nobel peace prize.
This movie is just a masterpiece. And im talking about both the animation and live action. The animation is very well made, they had the right colors, the soundtracks were beautiful and just like every disney animation, it's just so magical to watch. But not every animation has a good movie. Sleeping Beauty does. And I love it even more because of the fact it focuses on Maleficent and not the princess and still has a lot of similar elements. I hope there will be more good disney movies because I LOVED this. + Lana Del Rey was the perfect voice for this
This song not only gives me chills because I grew up with the original sleeping beauty and being a kid not knowing that one day it will give me some sort of deep connection with the style and or theme that goes with the aura of each story it gives u some sort of peace with the song itself.. and that's why this song is one of a kind..👏👏

She saw it in her mind. Her favorite place. The view of the ocean. The cries and laughter of innocence bouncing from the past, running around and through her. Memories stared at her from every inch of the room and made her want to just stand there, still for all eternity. She opened her eyes as reality pulled her back from the pleasures of what had once been and released her into the now where all hope had vanished and loneliness been bitterly embraced. She sat down slowly on an old rocking chair covered by moss and looked up to the ceiling. The old ruins of the castle let the image of the orange and red colored sky waltzing through and she saw the first star of the night as she had many ages ago when for the first time the cry of an untainted soul resounded on the west corner of the land... She reached out to the baby crib resting by the big window. The brisk breeze kissed her weary skin, adamant tears flooded her blue eyes, shamelessly running down her soft cheeks. She rocked the old lonely crib, back and forth. Slowly. Bittersweetly. This would be the only thing her old and wrinkled hands would never forget how to do.
I remember that I was about to leave the cinema and then I heard this beautiful song and I just said; Oh my god father, I know who is her, my dear Lana del Rey. Her voice is unique.
I feel as if this version would've been sung by Maleficent, as sort of a mock of Aurora. Aurora was much more elegant, full of life, and plain beautiful. Don't get me wrong, this is beautiful too, but in a more modern way. This is sort of calm, I'd say, sounding, and the background music makes it completely eerie and amazing. I don't know, I think I just like the original disney movies better than I would ever like any other music.
I don't think it sounds like (since this is probably Maleficent's version of the song) M. is mocking Aurora. It sounds a bit bitter if anything, like the person who is singing it, knows and has learned the hard way, that "fairy tales" and dreams don't always come true. "Visions are seldom all they seem" and for M., that's all it was.. just a dream, there was no real love, only betrayal.
the original version felt like a person fantasizing about true love in a cute innocent way. this version is like, a person fantasizing a non existent true love about a person they're stalking.
I saw 'Maleficent' last night, it really was great! Much like in the original Disney film, Aurora and the Prince aren't that interesting (The Prince in 'Maleficent' is almost an afterthought), but the story is carried by the three fairies, the king (Who in 'Maleficent' is the true villain), and of course Maleficent herself. Angelina Jolie is absolutely perfect as Maleficent, the story is well- written, and the visuals are gorgeous.
If you're referring to what I said about the king, that's not really a spoiler. It becomes clear really early on that he's a bad guy, and many other reviews of it by professional critics point that out, too.
My gosh, this song is addictive. So deliciously dark and eerie and SEDUCTIVE. Haunting and sad and it describes Maleficent perfectly. I picture her singing this while thinking about Stefan. Maleficent is enchantingly beautiful in both versions. She carries herself with such pride and confidence and grace that her very presence overshadows any other in the films. Maleficent was always more fascinating to me than Aurora herself or any of the other characters because she was always very mysterious, elegant, and intriguing to me. Now that I know her true story, I am fascinated by her even more.
this song version definitely does sound more ominous...Like this movie, the song is lovely but, it hints that there's more to what is going on, than meets the eye. Nothing is just black and white. So, it feels like it fits the new story version better. Think about it, they're called fairy tales but, a lot of old, orig. tales were pretty ominous as well, when you get right down to it. (like Grimm's Fairy Tales were) They had magical parts, princesses, etc... but, there was always something scary in them, a lesson in wariness and caution, to learn....like the Wolf in LRRH, witches, etc. A lot of old tales were told, basically, to make children just fearful enough, they wouldn't do things like...wandering off into the woods alone, etc..... Also, this is what I'd imagine Angelina Jolie's voice might sound like, if she sang this song. So, since this is Maleficent's story & if it's her interpretation of the song, in contrast to the orig...then, for her, that is all it truly was...just a dream...not real. She thought she had a friend, someone who loved her, that she could trust, but "visions are seldom, all they seem". She learned the hard way, that life isn't always a fairy tale, that people can betray you. So, the song perhaps sounds a bit bitter, sung in the minor key. In, contrast to the original story, Maleficent only experienced So, I have to admit, I like this new movie version much better than the original.
Gosh ! I hope that since your post you read first the fairy tales just compiled by The Grimm's Brothers you took as reference (fairy tales came from a very far distant times in the past, relayed by ancient generations to the newest ones thanks to oral traditions) and others ones, so you certainly have noticed there ain't any lesson in a tale ( but in a fable) or any message as a precaution and specially moral (but in a myth like those from Ancient Greece for example)... Then in a second time, I suggest you to pay your attention to books that explain the concept of a tale, the reason why people need tales and should read original true tales to their children (cause if Walt Disney made a great work and huge searches to create relevant and high quality setting for animations, he utterly screwed up the initials stories that he's drawn his inspiration from) like the most famous and approachable one : " The Uses of Enchantment " written by Bruno Bettelheim (1976) You will enjoy if you didn't yet and happily stop to spread craps about fairy tale (besides I don't have anything to tell about your private interesting point of view regarding Maleficent).
Ominous is one word for old fairytales. One might also say dark and disturbing. You do know she wasn’t just kissed in her sleep in the original story, right? In the 21st century even a non-consensual kiss is beyond the pale, and they handled that part quite well in the Maleficent movie, so even that didn’t happen.
Gives me a cold feeling when I watch this. Like if the clouds covered the sky, no blue no sun. It's not a dark world just cloudy, the sun shines through but can't be seen. It is cloudy but not dark. Like that grey feeling.
*You’re a Princess/prince that never got your happily ever after and now is the villain of your story* (I remember seeing maleficent back when it was still in theaters when i was 7 years old. I’m 15 now and now a freshman major in high school)
+Jan Mańkowski Walk away the Disney genre sir, and keep walking out the soundtrack zone if you.., but wait!!, you can take this soundtrack before "Le roi danse", you're welcome sir.
It's wicked how at 2:52 animated Aurora looks so much like Maleficient and Angelina: the elegant subtle gesture and the elongate body and facial features, like a medieval cathedral. They could pass as family.
Rest in Peace Shannon... our childhood dreams were such amazing things. The 10 year old little girl who was so gifted and full of life when you sang this song so many years ago. I have felt nothing but sadness watching you destroy yourself over the past two decades. Watching the little girl inside of you go from tragedy to tragedy. Life is frail. I wish I could turn back time and help you heal before substance poisoned you slowly. You didn't have to walk that path alone...
I agree, most of the princesses just sit there waiting for prince charming, Maleficent is more in control of her own life and actually tries to get what she wants, even if its not exactly 'princessy' behavior. All the princesses aren't very good role models.
LANA DEL REY was the perfect voice to sing this song for Maleficent. Instead of having a princess like voice to sing this, her voice sends a more mysterious and dark tone to it. Perfect for Maleficent
I finally watched both movies in one sitting and I absolutely loved them and I heard this song and I started to sing it and my family looked at me strangely
Step 1: Look up Fallout 4 trailer Step 2: Mute the fallout 4 trailer Step 3: Play Lana Del Rey - Once Upon a Dream Step 4: Play Fallout 4 trailer Step 5: Realize that both the song and the video are made for each other. Step 6: Enjoy.
can't say how happy i am to find this. I heard Lana del Ray sing a snippet of this in a radio interview and was amazed. I've always admired her beautiful voice but she is such a singing icon and so underrated.
Number one on my "Dark lullaby" playlist its her voice that hypnotizes me and makes me give in . I cant ignore it i cant even pause this song. I think shes making me not pause the song. 2018??? anyone?
J BC when the video is over there is a circular flash and if you click on it it would replay or you can make a playlist of the same song and it makes it like a loop
this song gives me chills as those men did in the trailer. Man can be strong and tough, but when a woman has them within her crosshairs, they will be scared.
i like how in the movie maleficent the song was explaining auroras thoughts towards maleficent "i know you , you've been watching me ever since i was small" , its really beautiful how the movie changed the meaning of the song
this song gives me this feeling that i can’t explain

Well, the song was written for Aurora and Phillip to sing. It doesn't even make sense for it to be in this movie.
Also, Maleficent's original character had no actual backstory and didn't need one. in the original when she fights Prince Phillip, she raises the powers of Hell against him, if you watch it, she literally calls them the powers of Hell.
I was captivated by Angelina Jolie, no other person could have played Maleficent better. I was fixated by the woman.
Spoiler alert. Not everybody saw it.
If you're referring to what I said about the king, that's not really a spoiler. It becomes clear really early on that he's a bad guy, and many other reviews of it by professional critics point that out, too.
There could be people who don't have tvs or haven't seen the trailers.
I also really loved the movie!! Espically the twist at the end
Her voice is just so fucking beautiful.
right i agree
Totally!
ikr
Her voice Is haunting
im a fan but she sucked live tho
this song version definitely does sound more ominous...Like this movie, the song is lovely but, it hints that there's more to what is going on, than meets the eye.
I enjoyed the read and your perspective on this story. Thank you.
True.
Then in a second time, I suggest you to pay your attention to books that explain the concept of a tale, the reason why people need tales and should read original true tales to their children (cause if Walt Disney made a great work and huge searches to create relevant and high quality setting for animations, he utterly screwed up the initials stories that he's drawn his inspiration from) like the most famous and approachable one : " The Uses of Enchantment " written by Bruno Bettelheim (1976)
You will enjoy if you didn't yet and happily stop to spread craps about fairy tale (besides I don't have anything to tell about your private interesting point of view regarding Maleficent).
*villain's are just victim's whose story hasn't been told.*
You guys should watch the serie of once upon a time. When you watch you'll see why villian is evil and good is good
Agreed. Especially since that the stories are always told from the good guys perspective
In the book, the evil queen loved and cared for snow white
Broken n nobody saved them
Straight facts
Eerie. Dark. Twisted. Scary. Yet. Beautiful. And. Meaningful.
Gives me a cold feeling when I watch this. Like if the clouds covered the sky, no blue no sun. It's not a dark world just cloudy, the sun shines through but can't be seen. It is cloudy but not dark. Like that grey feeling.
I feel the same thing, but i imagine the night in this world, full of luminous plants and creatures. Something enchanting and calm
*You’re a Princess/prince that never got your happily ever after and now is the villain of your story*
(I remember seeing maleficent back when it was still in theaters when i was 7 years old. I’m 15 now and now a freshman major in high school)
Thank god for Lana Del Ray.
+Cookie_In_A_Cake not ''RAY''

Some songs are good. Some songs are very good. Some songs are so awesome. But this song is over everything.
+Jan Mańkowski Walk away the Disney genre sir, and keep walking out the soundtrack zone if you.., but wait!!, you can take this soundtrack before "Le roi danse", you're welcome sir.
+camelazo this movie maleficent will be classic one day so keep the soundtrack
+Caroline 119 This movie is already a classic
+Jan Mańkowski Probably because the melody was written by Peter Iljitsch Tschaikovsky!
+Caroline 119 -Sleeping Beauty IS the classic, Malificent I don't think will ever amount to Sleeping Beauty-
Award for #1 Disney song
Lana Del Ray
I love what Lana Del Rey did with this song and i am so excited for this movie.
I am waiting this movie because of her and Angelina :D
me too
is it weird that i like this version of the song better then the disney cartoon version? its so beautifull and haunting! I LOVE IT!
its lana del rey what do you expect
Rajarshi Dwivedi I know, right? That is why I love Lana. Her voice is always hypnotizing.
Rajarshi Dwivedi come on it's REY!!!! NOT RAY:@
totally agree..
It's Lana del Rey so..
This song is mesmerizing. I have always loved the older version as a kid...but this one seems a lot better now
I love this song sung in a so dark way... Can't wait to see the movie!!!
I grew up with the original movie, so beautiful. And Lanas voice is perfect for this!
Angelina Jolie specially chose Lana Del Rey for this song.
Makes sense
Elle Fanning is one of the prettiest girls ever
agree
She has such a kind face! It emotes so much beauty
+Jack .Reed agreed
She has the most beautiful smile, it just lights up the whole room 😍😍
Fashion Owl221 I agree
her voice sounds so dark and mysterious it just makes you so intrigued like you want to listen to it over and over
It’s darker and more haunting than the original because the movie is MALEFICENT not sleeping beauty
This song is so enchanting, I get lost listening to it and can't tell how many times I've replayed it the whole day....
+Lizara same here
Ikr
It's wicked how at 2:52 animated Aurora looks so much like Maleficient and Angelina: the elegant subtle gesture and the elongate body and facial features, like a medieval cathedral. They could pass as family.
These scenes from the original are SO nostalgic, the live action movie was amazing, and Lana’s voice is so perfect for this song.
Maleficent is my FAVORITE disney character of all time, and Lana is my favorite singer of all time! IT'S THE PERFECT COMBINATION!
her voice is like a time machine she sounds so classic she sends you right back in time. It is hauntingly beautiful.
You didn't have to walk that path alone...
this song is so pretty it's hard to understand. u get lost in the song
If I was a Disney character I would want to be Maleficent.
I would but I feel like Cinderella would be a better choice :3
why? she was a servant and mistreated. and her marriage wasn't even allowed.
I agree, most of the princesses just sit there waiting for prince charming, Maleficent is more in control of her own life and actually tries to get what she wants, even if its not exactly 'princessy' behavior. All the princesses aren't very good role models.
Sunny Days yes all that is true but after all that hatred toward her lead her to great power. My point is is that torture can bring you strength
If lame TV only Disney movies count, I'd want to be Mal, Maleficent's daughter from Descendants
I love that out of all the artists they could've chosen ,they chose Lana. She sings the song in a different way and it fits the movie :)
ALL IN MINOR... just the way I like it
same here mate
awesome! i love minor keys. especially F minor.
I like sharps but I might be bias because I play in the orchestra
@@jadenturner7890 minor keys have sharps too.
nice dark and spooky great version..
This is such a nostalgic song. Feels like im travelling back to and remembering and re-living my past life....when i knew that all
She made this song sound like 100 times darker, it's amazing!!
I love how she adds emotion to her songs and performances, this reminds me alot of how jessica lange sang her gods & monsters.
Did you know God's and monsters is Lana del rey's song! Jessica Lange did a cover of it.
In Disney movies:
* anything lime green*
BITCH RUN THERES TROUBLE
So true lol

Haha Lol
It goes the same way for Harry Potter
peacendpola23 that's true too lol hahaha
I can’t stop listening for some reason. It’s so hypnotic💕
Step 1: Look up Fallout 4 trailer
Step 2: Mute the fallout 4 trailer
Step 3: Play Lana Del Rey - Once Upon a Dream
Step 4: Play Fallout 4 trailer
Step 5: Realize that both the song and the video are made for each other.
Step 6: Enjoy.
Artificial Intelligence omg so true XD
Oooh, I'll have to try that some time owo
+Artificial Intelligence Wooow!!! Amazing.
+Artificial Intelligence Yeah it's awesome!
+Artificial Intelligence bro that was awesome omg
I love how it uses clips of the original film cos that film was actually amazing!!!! I still watch it on VHS when I go to my nan's house
can't say how happy i am to find this. I heard Lana del Ray sing a snippet of this in a radio interview and was amazed. I've always admired her beautiful voice but she is such a singing icon and so underrated.
Rey***
i watched last night. now i'm sooo obsessed i can cry!
I love Angelina so much here
haha i dreamt of angelina last night.
Swati Kishore you lucky!
Lana's voice is just a dream tbh 💖✨💘
Number one on my "Dark lullaby" playlist its her voice that hypnotizes me and makes me give in . I cant ignore it i cant even pause this song. I think shes making me not pause the song. 2018??? anyone?
I'm Scared...but I really like it :3
that's the idea behind it!!!
This is gorgeous! I can't stop listening!!!!
and this is why TH-cam invented the loop button!!!
It did?!
J BC when the video is over there is a circular flash and if you click on it it would replay or you can make a playlist of the same song and it makes it like a loop
I've nearly worn it out....beyond marvelous
This song almost makes me cry. It's so beautiful. And movie is also amazing. Best disney live action movie by far.
Lana's songs make me cry. In a good way of course.. But in an inspirational way
this song gives me chills as those men did in the trailer. Man can be strong and tough, but when a woman has them within her crosshairs, they will be scared.
Love this song.
It’s been in my sleep playlist for years.
This song is like a song that would be in a nightmare, but also in a dream of a field filled with daisies.. It's beautiful ❤️
i like how in the movie maleficent the song was explaining auroras thoughts towards maleficent "i know you , you've been watching me ever since i was small" , its really beautiful how the movie changed the meaning of the song
