It's very rare you come across a *perfect* album. "Dirty Computer" was such a rarity for me in the sense that there were no skips and every song clicked. This is such a different album, and yet it makes perfect sense. This is gonna play all summer long. Again, a perfect album. Worth the wait.
I feel like Janelle's discography is impeccable honestly. Both Electric Lady and Dirty Computer are no-skip albums in my book, and the fact that she released them one after the other is crazy to me. Very rarely does an artist consistently put out work that ticks all my boxes but that's def Janelle.
The album does feel like a cool pool party day where everywhere is just enjoying, drinking, partying and just living their life. This album is such a fresh breathe of air... i just LOVE it.
The 4 PM mark is Float, then the sunset point is Phenomenal, then midnight must be Lipstick Lover/The Rush, then the late part of the early morning is Only Have Eyes 42, then the calm of post-party dawn and blue hour is A Dry Red is how the timeblock feels like to me
I cried when they played soft music for each other while enjoying stories of things that bring them pleasure. Both genuinely caring and creating that space for the other. They seemed so excited to have that space. Beautiful, glad to get to witness it.
This gorgeous lady is so incredibly talented and down to earth and cool. We’re so blessed and lucky to be here, in this time and place, to experience her genius. I can’t wait to see her live in Atl in October, she’s brilliant live. If you’ve never experienced her live show, do your a favor, you won’t be sorry. ✌🏻❤ 🎸 🌈
Remember listening to 57821 from The Archandroid back when it came out in 2010 and wanting to gatekeep this special being forever. Shes a generational artist that im proud to be a day 1 of
The A.I. subject is interesting because there are always 2 halves involved with the concept of music. The creative side and the business side. I think we can all agree that from a creative standpoint, there's too much emotion involved with a creation and creators to even feel threatened by A.I. however when you try to sell this creation or profit from it, there's very little emotion involved. This is further compounded by the end user or consumer being convinced they wanna see the next new thing and right now that's A.I. doing these goofy combinations. Being a creator myself I think the only solution is to be the artist you truly are and create once in a lifetime experiences for listeners or viewers. Business tends to have an assembly line approach to things, including music. To me the focus for artists should be quality over quantity.
I am loving these advancements in AI (but I understand and respect the concerns many have). I think, besides people concerned about their jobs being replaced, a lot of the concern is that AI is simply mashing together the work of others, rather than exhibiting true creativity. But I think that is shortsighted. I think that what we're really learning is that creativity -- true, REAL creativity -- can develop in a machine. Now, I don't think we're there yet. But there are "sparks" as some might say, that indicate to me that large language model can reason and consider and make informed choices... it can apply those techniques to creative tasks. Of course that does raise the question of what stories does an AI really want to tell, and can it truly have a sense of self, or are these things mere hallucinations as it completes its task... I don't have the answer there, but we certainly have not ruled out that possibility. I don't want a future where artists have relinquished their roles as storytellers and everyone simply listens to and watches media created by a superintelligent computer -- BUT, I DO love the idea of a superintelligent "being" having creativity, and not dominating the creative landscape, but still being a part of it nonetheless.
Only those who live for Christ will live forever. Repent and turn to Christ so your sin may be blotted out and so your name can be written in the lambs book of life. 🙏🏼
Janelle Monae is so lovely❣️ This album is perfect. Every song flows into the next and every single one is great🌈 Thank you so much for talking about the A.I. thing. Some aspects of using these A.I. programs are very problematic. As an artist it doesn't feel good to be replaced by a $5-$10 app that's actually using real art (possibly your own) to "create" fake art. That's really the least of my issues with it.. Obviously it's no fault of the technology itself but the people who use it.
Janelle, you are my favorite performer EVER. This conversation just seals the deal. You are human, yes, but your spirit is godlike. Thank you for sharing your light.
Love Zane Lowe, an interviewer who intuitively knows when to step in and fall back, depending on the reticence level of the guest. So, with that said, a wee suggestion: Zane, you're loving that explosion button maybe a little too much, haha. Seriously, tho, you're Zane F--king Lowe-you don't need sound effects, you **are** the sound effect.
Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter! 💛💙
Regarding Zanes comment about what he see's lacking in 'AI's' ability to connect with our souls, in its 'glibness', well I hope he's right. But from my experience, sadly I think the population will take whatever is spoon fed to them, and once its become accepted, then that will be the beginning of the end my friend. the beginning of the end!
Loving all of this! Janelle is seriously one of my most top favorite black female artist / singer. Her music always puts me in a good mood and makes me think as well as just makes me so happy to her voice. She is so inspiring to me as a artist and creative person. Seeing her journey and growth of self-acceptance is so awesome. 🙌🏾
I think that the living in the present thing is a good way to live but I find it very hard to do. I'm constantly worrying about the future and worst case scenario events. I'm not in the fortunate position that I can just surround myself with positive people that I like.
I'm so happy this goes to youtube. I recently left Apple music and missed the radio content. Also I love that Zane has his Beyerdynamic cans on. Apple can't like that but he wants his stuff to sound right.
We need an acoustic version of Lipstick Lover!!
I support this wholeheartedly ❤
The whole album!
YES
That would be beyond amazing…❤❤❤
Worst song on what is otherwise a flawless album

She has truly been on one of the great runs in pop history. Happy that she came and that she is here with her many gifts.
So true! Start to fiiiinish🔥🔥💚

The whole album is just brilliant. Janelle Monae is a genius on so many levels. We are all so lucky to be living in the Age of Pleasure.
People just don't know how much this is in sync with who she is.
