Rybakina started serving aces like it was the easiest thing in the world and then when she stopped she forgot how to score points on her serve without them. Overconfidence is Rybakina’s biggest weakness. It doomed her against Haddad Maia and now it doomed her against Vekic. In both matches Rybakina served at least 15 aces.
@@_youssef1989 Not for the match in Doha. She did exactly what she did against Vekic but even better and still lost because the aces stopped coming and Haddad Maia won just enough of the returned 1st serve points to break a few times to win the 2nd and 3rd sets. Rybakina served 19 aces against Haddad Maia, 80% 1st serves, won the 1st set pretty easily, got overconfident in her serve and lost. Rybakina here served 15 aces against Vekic, won the 1st set pretty easily by dominating the tiebreak, 71% 1st serves, got overconfident in her serve and lost. Whenever Rybakina starts out serving very well but isn’t breaking her opponent repeatedly then she will eventually lose from overconfidence in holding serve with aces and unreturnables.

I'm always happy to watch any highlights of Rybakina's matches, so thanks WTA ... and I'm sure there are logistical challenges in producing highlights packages in a timely manner, but really ... is it so hard to include the pivotal moments of a match in the highlights? Like the break of serve in the final set?
Elena has a great game but has only one gear. Fortunately for her that gear is successful the vast majority of the time. In matches like this, there is no "plan B"
There is a plan B but she doesn’t think she needs to use it when she serves 15 aces, that is her problem. Her average 1st serve percentage is 57% and she still serves like 7 to 8 aces per match(clutch serving), but once that goes up to 70+% 1st serves she shoots up to 12+ aces(because her ace count is incredible for how low her 1st serve percentage is and increasing her 1st server percentage also greatly increases her age count)and then she feels invincible. She needs to get a point where she is serving 65% 1st serves on average and 10 aces a match and get used to defending her 2nd serves to win, her serving is just too random either way right now. Rybakina is considered a WTA serve bot but it is impossible to be a servebot with 57% 1st serves so she isn’t actually a servebot, but at the same time she kind of wants to be a servebot and that hurts her because when she is successfully serve botting she goes away from hitting winners and playing more defensive on 2nd serve rallies.
Donna really played well in this match and deserved to win. Rybakina, though, may have had fitness issues in this match, possibly because of her long layoff. In the first set, she was shaking her right forearm and when a right-handed tennis player does something like that, something there is really affecting her forehand. Not surprising that her forehand is really way off in this match. Hope she is fully fit for wimbledon.
Well done Vekic! But there are so many haters of Elena here, it's disgusting to read the comments. There are special people who write that the Wimbledon title is an accident. Interestingly, the Australian Open final, the Indian Wells title, the Miami Open final, the title in Rome are also an accident? If you think so, then summing up Elena will still be remembered by the world as the luckiest player. But in fact, she will be remembered for her achievements. I’m sure she won’t take a single Grand Slam title yet, she has a great future. Every player has ups and downs. Elena has so many victories and so few defeats. Of course, it will continue to improve and gain experience. I'm sure it will be number one!
Wtf was that performance from Rybakina?? So many unforced errors and 2(!) break points the whole game! Hopefully she can bounce back to Wimbledon but she need to be much more consistent like Swiatek and Sabalenka. Can't keep losing in the early rounds in so many tournaments.
Well you are not wrong. Rybakina has been prone to injuries as her game is mostly relaying on force, not so much technique. It doesnt bode well for her future.

She just needs to learn that serving over 10 aces in a match is not a guaranteed win. Aces are a bonus and a final defensive measure to prevent breaks not a main scoring method(unless you are John Isner serving 50 aces in a match). Rybakina is smart and understands that the higher her 1st serve percentage is the less likely she is to lose in any match, but the problem is that she doesn’t realize that she still needs to work hard to win as many 2nd serve points as possible to keep that streak of good serving going throughout the match.

She didn't do well last year before Wimbledon either, but won the Grand Slam anyway. Remember, she's coming off a protracted illness earlier this month.
I quite do not understand why people says Rybakina is a queen of grass. She has literally won one tournament on grass - Wimbledon, sure, but to be fair she was lucky, there was no Russians or Belarusians, and Ons wasn't feeling her best in the final. I like Elena, but I will be suprised if she'll come anywhere near her last year achievement on Wimbledon. I feel like it's not the time to call anyone "Big 3 of WTA", especially Rybakina. She is not as consistent or succesful as Swiatek and Sabalenka. She is 24 and only has 5 titles. I have a feeling she will be next Jabeur - she will have great year, but next year she won't be anywhere near top. She is 2023 phenomen and lucky winner but that's unfortunately it (for example: Swiatek is 22 with 4 GS and many other achievements and records, and Sabalenka is getting better and better and she has been in the top for years now). I really hope Swiatek and Sabalenka will have long and healthy rivality and will bring each other to their best. WTA needs them now like never. I have a feeling that both of them are in a game for a Wimbledon title this year. Sabalenka is good on grass, she has already reached a semifinal there, and people are forgetting Swiatek has won girl's Wimbledon and, yes she has only reached as far as four round, but so did Rybakina before winning.
You can win a point by luck but not the whole tournament. To say that she was lucky to win wimbly because russians and belarussians didn't participate is rather absurd. It's not like players from these countries had been winning wimbly every year. But I agree that she needs to win wimbly at least twice to be considered queen of grass. For now she is still too inconsistent compared to swiatek and sabalenka
@@dimitria8493 I am aware that Russians and Belarusians don't win every single year, but that's a strong and large group. But come one, you cannot convince me that Emma Raducanu have won US Open with her skill. Sometimes in sport it is the luck you need, one doesn't need to be the best, it's enough if opponents are slightly off, plus if you keep wining you gain confidence and that is something you cannot stop. I have looked at Rybakinas last year's draw, and Simona Halep was the highest seed she have met (16th) until Ons (seed 3) and everyone she had played with (with exception of Halep) aren't very succesfull players. Yet, I agree, Elena does deserve her title and recognition, but there is a lot of players who has won GS and it is all. Time will show, I wish her all the best, she is for sure the picture perfect tennis player, she is quite, classy, nice and humble.
@@karolinamccain9337 in a match, ranking and seeds don't matter. It is about whether they play good or bad. If seeding matters so much than Swiatek would win every single tournament. Yet during FO final she was pushed to nearly 3 hours by Muchova who was ranked 50 and has only 1 wta250 title if I am not mistaken. Her other opponents were even more "unsuccessful" players. At least Rybakina needed to beat 2 slam champions, 2 times wimbly quarterfinalist, and world number 2.
@@karolinamccain9337You cannot win a whole tournament by luck. It's too many game to be considered as luck. Fact is sometimes players play a tournament of their life but couldn't carry the consistency ahead. Raducanu didn't win by luck either. She played a great tournament but since then she degraded
At least at that moment Rybakina reminds me of Naomi Osaka. When she plays well and when is in her best shape then she is very difficult to be stopped. She is perfectly capable of winning big tournaments including slams. However during entire season she has her ups and downs. Last year she won Wimbledon and then disappear for half of the season. This year she played really well since June and now we will see how it will evolve. She maybe does not defend any ranking points at Wimbledon but as former champion it will be additional pressure. I would say that at least now Sabalenka is more probable winner of Wimbledon.
@@nnesam Yes, after watching her match today with Kudermetova I can only agree. She seems to be more anxious and unstable than during last few months. Almost like she focus so much to catch Iga Świątek than when she lost this opportunity during RG something broke for her at least for now. Wimbledon can be very interesting this year :)
Vekic played very well today. Nevertehless, Elena could have beaten her. I'm a big fan of Elena, but she should work on her shot selection. On days like these, when her forehand is off, she has to go for bigger targets, instead of aiming for the lines. And on her return she has to go deep down the middle or cross-court, instead of going for low percentage down the line returns, especially on her forehand wing. Also her movement wasn't good, but that's is ok since it was her first grass tournament of the season.
I didn't watch Rybakina first match but today she was absolutely awful even in the first set, 2nd set bad and 3rd worsened couldn't play 3 shots rallies totally Ostapenko's style a balanced 33 unforced to 34 winners in these cases it's tough to say the opponent was better bcs 33 unforced in 2hs is a lot of free points Vekić barely hit winners and she's not pusher that says everything about the match. Rybakina does it very often she takes a time to "ignite" like 3, 4 games sometimes the whole first set today she took the whole match and didn't "ignite" which means play without service.
Elena has been looking fatigued for a while now. I love her, and while this loss might give her some much needed rest as well as preparation time for Wimbledon, I honestly don't see her defending her Wimbledon title.
You ignored the fact that Rybakina served 15 aces to Vekic's 4. It was Vekic playing brilliant tennis and not Rybakina playing badly. 33 unforced errors to 34 winners in 2 hours is very good tennis. That's 11 UEs per set on average and 11 winners per set on average or 1 unforced error per game and 1 winner per game. Elena Rybakina played great, but Vekic simply was bit better. You simply are very bitter and salty, because your favorite tennis player lost the match, so you look for excuses to be angry.
@@einarsd4 you can have your own interpretation about the match but you can't skip the reality, Rybakina doing well on service is like the sun rising in the morning I mean nothing new she played badly because she only served. Her last 3 matches on clay were better than this one. No big deal she's not a machine she'll play badly.
Lame excuses, there are matches where Rybakina tbh was playing like this, making wild errors as if she is about to lose but sometimes can regroup and win the match, but certainly not today. You got to give Vekic some credit as well, if Rybakina is so unwell she would withdraw in the middle of the match
Thank you Vekic for getting rid of the boring servebot. Really can't stand to watch Rybakina. Other than the big serve she's got nothing going for her. Her movement is so awkward is painful to see, she runs around the court like a mannequin, and she has zero personality, a total ice queen.

Hope Yelena practice more and get better at playing player like this one.
Donna is very streaky. Sometimes she loses to bad players and sometimes she beats the best.
Vekic is just NOT consistent. This win doesnt mean she will win next round
Rybakina is not very consistent herself. Lost in first round in Madrid as well.
It goes both ways.
She is playing an unranked opponent, she should win pretty easily.
Rybakina had an easy draw to the final and now Vekic does.
Half of it is the slow-mo replay of each and every point....
Рыбакина еще не восстановилась после болезни или то что первый тровиной турнир так рано вылетела( Но и Векич надо отдать должное хорошо отыграла
Да не говори!, ты не видел матч с Кудерметовом?
Strategy for Rybakina.she has to be ready for Wimbledon, starting July. Time to rest.
Good job Vekic woohoo
Nice Donna.
Congrats!
I mean Vekic, Osaka has their games meant for grass court 😅
Congratulations Donna!
Vekic can play well at times but underperforms so often. Won't be surprised if she loses very early at Wimbledon.
I highly doubt she will. She seems to be decreasing her double fault count significantly and that was her main problem.
Dona Vekic 👍👍👍
Такая Векич способна преподнести сюрприз на Уимблдоне.
@@simonpegg1196 Nope. She wasn't fatigued. Fatigued tennis player doesn't play for 2 hours. Vekic simply was better today. Just accept it.
Well done vekic
Very disappointing performance by Rybakina losing in the Round of 16 on grass!
She needs to regroup and do much better at Eastbourbe before Wimbledon.
😊😊😊😊😊
Well played Donna
Bravo Donna👏👏👏
Thank you Vekic for getting rid of the boring servebot. Really can't stand to watch Rybakina. Other than the big serve she's got nothing going for her. Her movement is so awkward is painful to see, she runs around the court like a mannequin, and she has zero personality, a total ice queen.
Wow
No esperaba la derrota de Elena, tuvo muchos errores no forzados.
Fantastic Vekic -- good that defeated boring Rybakina
Ryba seems out of air...its okay Ryba
pretty girl rank 1 vs pretty girl rank 2
