I have a circuit bent 505! It's hands down the best percussion instrument. It has a pitch knob that does amazing things. 3 extra kits and patchbay for glitching the sounds and sequencer.
yo! we are so lucky to have that...It's an Acme Audio Motown tube preamp...MTP-66 ...Al Sutton's mentor was a Motown engineer who designed this original preamp that people like James Jamerson plugged into back in the day. I'm lucky that my studio partner Eric Hoegemeyer worked with Al Sutton for a long time. It sounds amazing. I want to do a historical video on it with Al's blessing
@MadeOnTape Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics produced a song for Tom Petty back in the day. Check out "Don't Come Around Here No More" from the Southern Accents album. I don't know it sounds very similar in my head. Rockin' sound!
@@MadeOnTape ok, my 505 is broken so I can't verify it works without MIDI. If you want 120 BPM with swing, you need to rapidly change (programmed on the grid ofc) the tempo between 100 and 140, or 110 and 130, or 80 and and 160 etc. The bigger the interval, the more dramatic the swing. If the 505 allows, you can try using steps and tempo change events, or any event on the grid (maybe not witj too high quantize resolution - but try!). Once you have one pattern dialled in, just copy paste this arrangement to infinity. Just like the left side of an animal tastes better than the right, and an OG Fairchild sounds better than a clone, this swing swings more than any factory made shuffle.
I heard it's an advert for an upcoming boxing match between host of 'The Rubin Report' Dave Rubin and elderly British economist Sir Paul Collier (author of The Future of Capitalism) - Winner gets a vintage Watkins Copicat and a packet of 5 type ii cassettes!
@@MadeOnTape Well, these alternatives will create some powerful "pain in the ass" for guys 😄 Next time for the swing we can try chopping and gluing recorded tape, for example. Why not? 😂Anyway, love your videos, keep it up 😁
TH-cam unsubbed me from yet another channel....glad to have yours back. Thanks for the "swing" exploration.
i’ve heard about this before and happy to see you 🙏🏻
That 5tuplet is awesome. I’ll definitely have to give that a try.

Oh that 5 thing is awesome, a bit “j dilla”. I’ll try with my 626. 👍
What is the blue box with a meter on your desk?. Thanks!

you can also provide external swinging MIDI clock
may be limited, but still my go-to tool
2:40 All I can hear is "Don't Come Around Here No More" ...is that the same machine Dave Stewart used? 😅
omg i actually don’t know the reference 😭

And he might have even splashed it with a little delay like we had talked about.
I’ve asked before and you told me but I’m 62, and didn’t write it down. What Tascam model four track cassette tape recorder are you using?
all good! i’m using the TASCAM Porta Two ministudio, not to be confused with the Porta 02 🙏🏻
Best swing: alternate between tempo X and Y on every step/quantized unit.
😮 please elaborate 🙏🏻🙌🏻

Rick Rubin vs Pat Collier?
i had to look up Pat Collier!
…there was a recent media thing where Jacob Collier had words about Rubin and i thought it was funny 😂

ahm, bro, what about MIDI? simple sequencer will do the thing :)))
here are some alternatives 😂

Rubin, even knowing nothing else about the matchup
Just sell it and get a 707 mate
but i like the dumbness cuz it reminds me of me
