- How's it going guys!
I hope you are doing well and 2024 has got off to a good start for all of you with some cracking wildlife photography opportunities!
Now in this video I thought we would revisit last year and a few of my favourite shots from 2023, breaking down the images, how they were captured and a few of the reasons I personally love these photographs. One of the most important ways to improve your photography moving forwards it to always review, revisit and revise your work, taking time to objectively understand what you did well, and less well to help you evolve as a photographer!
As I say at the start of this video, when it comes to making images it's not a numbers game. Yes you might see people posting images daily, digging into the archives to keep up with the algorithms but in truth, go after 1 great picture each month, something you want to put on your wall, tell people about. Learn to craft those shots and in then your ability to shoot consistent great frames will inevitably develop!
I'd love to know what was your favourite of my images from last year, maybe it wasn't even one I featured in this video? Let me know and also, what was your favourite frame? Drop me a message on instagram and tag me into your #wildlifeshotoftheyear2023 , I'd love to see them! @TomMasonPhoto on the gram!
As mentioned I have just started my newsletter that you can join here subscribepage.io/TomMasonPhoto

The black and white picture of the bear, is easily one of the best bear pictures i've seen ! AMAZING
Tanks for sharing
Fantastic work, Tom. I really like the kittiwake and sparrowhawk images!
Those pictures are outstanding Tom. I experimented with your panning trick this weekend, had never thought about it and loved the results. Cheers !
Always great
Great series of images Tom,love the hares in the fog wondering what your settings were for that shot plus the two polar bears images are amazing great work😊cheers John
Very nice images! Like the environments! I struggle with environment shots. Always something off in my environments 😂
Thank you. Great images. All the best. 👍📷😎
Fascinating. My favourites: - the close up hare, the fox and the sparrowhawk! Oh and the SEO on the fence!
Gateshead Kitiwakes. Likely a subspecies of the Newcastle variety! Great images and a fruitful year. The water rat was a stunner, but my word, that owl... Super impressive technically, compositionally and with your fieldcraft - nay camera traps there. I've spooked them before seeing them many times in low trees.
Kittiwake and Fox for me! ❤
Yes the Kittiwake shot is one I do enjoy, and even more so because it was made with my Nikon Coolpix A!
Definately a creative way to get the shot :)@TomMasonPhoto
Hey Tom, great to see you back with another video and love the channel from another Hertfordshire snapper!
Got a question about filming wildlife. When I film it all seems ok but when I get home and upload to editing it, the footage comes out wobbly, I film on a tripod but is it my setup to light ? Or a settings issue ?
Thanks !
That kittiwake shot is one of the best wildlife shots I’ve seen, incredible work as per mate!
Cheers bud! Great to hear you like that shot, made the purchase of the Nikon Coolpix A well worthwhile!
@@TomMasonPhoto it’s a nifty little camera. What’ve you got lined up by way of photography trips in 2024 out of curiosity?
Great stuff Tom, the otter and the polar bear images for me, though they're all superb! Cheers. PS glad you're enjoying the new 600mm, dream lens!
Glad you like them! Yes the 600mm is certainly a dream to shoot with, although I do find myself still picking up my 300mm 2.8 a lot!
An awesome body of work Tom. Thanks for sharing it with us.
My pleasure! glad you enjoyed the frames!
good video Thanks Tom.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great work , love the Tawny Owl composition.
Thanks Mark, yes I was pretty happy with how that one tuned out, I often find I love giving wildlife a little more room in the frame. Cheers, Tom
Very nice!
Thanks!
Fantastic 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work Tom, and such a variety too. That second polar bear shot is wonderful. I would be very interested in seeing a video of the small tripod that you use. I've thought about getting a ground pod, but I think a small tripod would work better for me.
Hey Paul, glad you like the shots! I too love the second Polar bear image, and Ill be sure to do one on the mini tripod soon! Cheers, Tom
Brilliant stuff - among the best on TH-cam
Cheers John, that means a lot! Glad you like the images!
Top Class - Otter and Polar Bear 2 my favorite, lets see what others say :)
Thanks Peter! the 2nd Polar bear image is certainly one that is heading for the printers I feel!
