  • Welcome to the newest and most exclusive spot in LEGO City, the Papillon SkyLounge!
After months of brainstorming, site visits, and construction, I have finished my latest "Modern Modular" building! Over the past decade, I have filled out LEGO city displays with Miami-inspired buildings, streetscapes, and scenes - and doing so on a similar scale to LEGO's Modular Buildings line has been a staple. These buildings are, as the name implies, modular - easy to transport, fairly sturdy, and fun to build and exhibit.
This one was a doozy and a reflection of recent experiences going out and about in Miami. I have been captivated by the local nightlife scene, visiting places such as Astra, Rosa Sky, and Regatta Grove, among many other venues. I immediately thought - why not incorporate this into a LEGO MOC? The recent expansion in the LEGO parts palette through many of the recent lines made this possible, and ultimately, a concept was drawn out.
We glance at the rooftop lounges that actively inspired this build, and incorporate common spaces, such as a podcast studio, creative space, pop-up clothing store, and dog groomer to complete the three-story modular. Using the Boutique Hotel as a reference, the part count is estimated at over 2,500 pcs to complete this, not counting the MILS standard on which this building sits.
The theming has been on a subtle yet common decoration between the rooftops that inspired this build - the butterfly; I wanted to choose something not clearly identified in these buildings yet something that would be popular among the clientele if this were a real location. Plus, the French translation, "Papillon", sounds like a potential name for a spot of this caliber. The exterior facade takes elements from both locations but adds foliage to further the theming. The rooftop space is reminiscent of that of Rosa Sky. We end up with a hip, upscale spot that is sure to impress and entertain the locals and visitors of LEGO City, to the tune of "ground-shaking" Afro House and Tech House beats. Sure enough, I cannot wait to display this when the opportunity comes up.
