Scania introduces new Side Detection functionality

Scania now introduces a side detection functionality with two different systems. Together they help avoid or mitigate accidents caused by human mistakes that cause trucks to come in contact with other road users. The two systems work in parallel and does to some extent overlap each other, despite having different focuses. Pedestrians and cyclists are among those who will benefit the most from the extra “eyes” that Scania gives its trucks with the help of radar, radar sensors and camera.
Side detection ADAS features mean vastly increased safety Blind Spot Warning (BSW), on both sides of the truck
Works at all speeds over 2 km/h, also on motorways
Vulnerable Road User Collision Warning (VRUCW), on passenger side
Primarily intended for urban environments up to 36 km/h
Side Detection warns by light and sound, escalated in three levels
Radar, radar sensors and camera are used in combination
