I have to admit i think McFadden is hilarious because he just misses the entire plot, wanders off, eats a eldrich horror and goes off to hunt another pc who hurt his masculinity.

I always want a debrief at the end of these Actual Play recordings. I want to know what could have happened, what did the players miss, when did they derail Dom's plan, how did he rebalance it, etc. In my experience you rarely get this sort of review, maybe because most people would find it boring, maybe because they don't want to pull back the curtain and reveal all of the secrets behind the story so that it can be replayed.
Same. I just binge watched all three episodes in a row (had a day off and to myself) and by the end I was a little lost / felt like I had missed things especially in regard to the ending and what the win conditions were. Other than the UpUpDownDown show 'Rollout' this is my first foray into tabletop RPGs and hoping to understand more so I can awkwardly look for people to play with.
@@bobtallman5209 It seems to be implied at the end that each time one of the group went "insane" in reality their mind was swapped and placed in the amalgamated body below the floorboards in the basement. It isn't until the end when the Butler reveals that it is the true body of Randall Reeks, a man who has survived for hundreds of years by performing this same massacre every century. And while their minds were trapped in the body down below, their own bodies began to murder seemingly indiscriminately. In reality, Randall Reeks had swapped minds with the individual, and was using their younger bodies to do the killings he required for the ritual to take place.
At the end, Ivy may have killed Randall's true body. But his mind had already swapped with River's. She killed River and Carl piloting the amalgamation of a body they were trapped within. As Randall walked out of the home in the body of one River Proletariat. Free. And very much alive.

It would be really cool to get a behind the scenes recap of the story. What were the events and triggers that caused all these things to happen. What were the factions and consequences of various actions. Might be a bit of peek behind the curtains but I know a lot of people would really enjoy it.

I like how River Proletariat was the only one still sane at the end, and for the entire story he was on this weird side quest with Harry haha
Imagine GMing a session with 6 players and as many NPCs and being able to lead and interweave their independent chaotic storylines, not giving away the plot and not telling any of the players they can’t do something. Incredible.
I'm embarrassed that it took me until Part 3 to realize how many Clue references are in this. The names of the NPCs, various weapons and objects (lead pipe, candlestick, etc.), the room names, even someone shutting off the electricity as a plot point. This scenario is Clue filtered through an H.P. Lovecraft lens.
The new hit board game: I have no Clue, please get me out of this hell.

@@slothdance2020 Yeah, that's the barrier I've always had with Lovecraft's stuff and the mythos in general. If you can't describe the scary thing to me then how can I picture it and feel afraid of it? Telling me something is indescribable doesn't make me quake with fear, it makes me shrug my shoulders or say "Well that's a bit of a cop-out on your part isn't it Mr. Writer? Don't have to try imagining something descibably horrifying, can just say it can't be described. How convenient." Saying what colors it isn't, saying the colors can't even be described just makes me shrug because I don't have any frame of reference for something that doesn't exist like that.
Some old lady with a goldball-sized freaking growth on her hand that is pulsing is freaky enough. It's honestly kind of ruined when you then go on with how you can't even comprehend what color it is. Less is more.
Absolutely loved Monsieur Peeps and the Frenchie "Rosencrantz and Guildensterning" their way through this cosmic horror story
Dom is the most natural Call of Cthulhu GM I have seen on TH-cam. Usually for American-born GMs and players they put on the old timey trans-atlantic accent and try their best, but Dom with his natural posh speaking voice, knowledge of etiquette and quick wits make him the best by far.
Everyone's dying, there's crazy people, ghosts, eldritch horrors beyond mortal ken... And it's STILL the second worst dinner Party River Proletariat has been to.
Top notch story here! No spoilers, promise. I want to give a shoutout to the editing team. The music and ambiance added to the videos was done extremely well and served to draw me in further. The intro sequence is epic, the lighting and effects are awesome, well done everyone! I can't wait to see more of this kind of content!

I'm living for the 'Teri intimidation roll' part. Adam, Sully and Tilly look devastated and are trying to stop Holly, all the while Laurie is grabbing and pointing her mimed gun at Dom, and Tom is just... grinning maniacally. God this was tense!
Harry Peeps NEEDS to return next year in another adventure, even more mad than they are now.

I am hoping this becomes a regular thing. Dominic Allen is the second-best Secret Keeper I have ever seen, and he knows just when to end the story. Never really being satisfied but not disappointed either. Rare talent...

@@joniii_ Tragically, a person I learned the game from. The difference between how they did things was largely the fact that he was a long-time player (Think he started back in the third edition) and he had a knack for memorizing all of the rules and making you feel dread. Dom is on a whole other level to anyone else I have seen, and it may be bias on my part he holds second. -RIP Mr Munez.

The first episode of this series made me determined that I want to try being the gm with some of my friends. I didn't think I could do it , as I have virtually 0 experience in role-play, but seeing dom captivating narration made me realize how much fun it can be, so I've decided to give it a try. Thanks for that!

Thank you so much for this. I hope we get to see more! The addition of any kind of semi-regular TTRPG play to programming that already includes Board Game Club, Blood on the Clocktower, House Rules, and the annual Lord of the Board tourney would really cement NRB’s place as one of the best channels imaginable.
This was absolutely brilliant. Dom I know you read the comments section so I want to tell you how amazing you make the experience spectating this masterpiece. I would absolutely love if you guys make a series of Call of Cthulhu like you did with Clocktower. This could be the next big channel stable. You did a fantastic job writing and telling this story and screw doing this as a podcast you have the best facial expressions to tell these stories they should definitely be captured on video. Well done, a stranger on the internet is proud of you and what you've achieved here! That's worth as much as bitcoin now adays! The entire crew did beautiful work and I loved every second of it. I can't wait until Tuesday when I rewatch it with my girlfriend and my room mate to show them the conclusion to this glorious work of art.

This was simply unbelievable. Seeing this part of Dom as a storyteller was so eye opening to his talent and each interaction between characters was masterful and although Holly took her out, the camera work was amazing!

This may be my new favorite series that NRB has ever done. Dom is an amazing GM. The players were all excellent, making even the jokey bits tense and thrilling. Awesome job by everyone involved. Though we still need Justice for Teri.

This is genuinely one of those actual-plays that makes you want to immediately play the game. Fantastically done, Dom.
An absolute gem. Also this story was inspired by the short story called the Color out of Space by HP Lovecraft, highly recommend a read to truly grasp the context of that surreal scene
Ace performances all around, but I will give special commendations to Dom in particular for flawlessly going along with whatever and making it seem unendingly fascinating. As well as Sully and Tilly for their dynamic duo of endless joys, their loyalty to their characters while still keeping the entertainment of it all so varied. A true joy, masterfully done.
The podcasts are every bit as good as this. They're very much like the old radio dramas from decades ago. Absolutely worth subscribing to.
This was an absolute EVENT. Easily a crown jewel in the NRB playlist. All thanks to the crew for putting this on.

It took me a while to get the Cluedo references.
I love the fact it was largely inspired by my favourite Lovecraft story "The Colour out of Space."

This trilogy has cemented itself as my favourite videos the channel has ever made - the mix of comedy, story telling and improvisation really lets the whole cast shine and show their strengths.
I of course love the board game club episodes every week, but I think the role playing medium best showcases the talent working on and around the channel and I would love to see more of this in the near future.
That's what you all get for making Dom Mingle. The plague has obviously affected his brain, and his vengeance is complete.
What an incredible masterpiece of storytelling and gaming. Thank you so much for this, I cannot imagine how much toil went into every aspect of it. Huge shout-out to Dom who sent so many shivers up my spine, and to the editor for masterful effects! I really loved how each character brought something uniquely wonderful to the story. The hard-hitting psychology of Tom, the sharp wit and incision of Laurie, the stone-cold badassery of Holly, the strong spirit of Adam, the compassion of Sully and the humor of Tilly were all given new life by the characters they played and it was all brilliant.
I guess Holly got her hearing back for the ending. Would love a review or recap of everything that happened at the end because It felt like it ended so suddenly. That being said loved what was here a lot, excellent laughs and atmosphere

It's been 3 months and here I am, rewatching the entire series in a day.
I've been waiting all week for this and it absolutely delivered. Such a fun group of players, GM and 4th wall Teri. I hope we see more content like this on the NRB channel. Especially if the dice are going to be so rude.
THE ENDING IS PERFECT, those series are awesome! I am in a desperate need of a sequel!
Wow! That was amazing. Dom did one hell of a job on this. Keeping track of so many narratives at once and getting them to a satisfying end is nothing short of genius

I'm a year late to this, but it's never late to say: this was ingenious. Very happy to discover this through the Chaotic Neutral channel and curious to check apocalypse players. Hoping for many more episodes with Dom as a DM
Dom’s story telling was fantastic. The way all the players would stop and look at him with faint smiles of awe just says it all. Fair game, this was an amazing game to watch. Well done.
Granted I haven't seen all that many roleplaying sessions, but isn't this just roleplaying perfection? I can call out all the things I liked, loved about these 3 sessions, but frankly, everything (and every single one at the table) is golden in this.

@@alphyna Pretty sure River was still possessed by Randall Reek, who also survived inside River’s body. But yes, the souls of River and Nallsin were inside the abomination when Ivy killed it, so they’re both dead now.

I almost didn’t watch this because I’ve never really thought Call of Cthulhu was in my zone of interest but this was fabulous!
Dom's love of describing mutually exclusive colours was a lovely mix of Cluedo reference (BTW, how awesome would a Lovecraft-based Cluedo be?) & "Colour Out of Space" homage. The extra limbs & especially multiple eyes very evocative of certain Biblical depictions of angels, too.
I ADORE the ambiguity of the ending.

At face value, it appears that River & Harry did escape. But notice: whenever the Keeper speaks for another character throughout the game, it is because someone - or something - else is speaking for them.
So was it indeed River who said "Monsieur, we're free" - or was it something else?
I'm glad someone's realised it's not that I'm just shit at describing colours.

Genuinely some of the best story telling I've ever seen from a ttrpg game. Felt thoroughly invested and morbidly curious throughout the entire playthrough. What an amazing GM, an amazing set of characters and some amazing sound design as well
Absolute masterpiece, do more please, more call of cthulhu or any ttrpg you guys like really! Also, BIG shoutout to Tilly. As someone who plays a lot of CoC, I find comic relief PCs to be usually distracting and ill-suited for the game's themes. I love me some comedy in D&D but in CoC it's hard to do without hurting the atmosphere. Tilly played her character very well, her comedy only added to the hopelessness of the situation and she was genuinely funny, not the usual forced sarcasm we see from comic relief characters. You guys are great.

Finally found time to watch this series... so pleased I did as it was incredible! I'm 100% going straight into the Apocalypse Players podcast and the other RPGs on this channel.
Dom, you are just SUCH a captivating GM! The 'not quite colour' is a brilliant tool to sell the unease of the Cosmic Horror genre. And then everyone else at the table was so great! Must have been so fun to be there.

Hear me out, this needs to be a movie! Still keeping the cast role playing as they are in the series, ie sitting at the table rolling out the story, but flashes to a reenactment of what is happening in real time!

Guys only just watched the entire RPG series both this and Red Dread Redemption I must say it's absolutely fantastic.
Please please please make much more of this type of content, you all are wonderful. Dom ran this game masterfully, Adam was excellent in this I thought and the real MVP for me is Tilly her bluntness is so naturally funny.
