My all time star, Jomo Sono. He played the best soccer I've ever seen. Not only locally but overseas as well. He made me to love Pirates from the 70s until now. His videos as a player are just amazing. I wish people like him may not grow old, so that they always give their all to build this nation
I am shocked to learn of his death, it happened in January 2019 and it barely made the news here. I was lucky to see him in action when the Bafana Bafana visited Mauritius in January 1999, Masinga scored against our boys and we equalised in the second half. He is very much loved by Serie A fans too for his time at Bari, scored a few memorable goals especially against Inter. Salutations to the people of the Rainbow Nation SA.
I was watching that match it was played at Orlando Stadium 1989. Chippa went on to say after that match he travelled to Klerksdorp to tell his parents that he scored. May His Soul keep on RIP. 16/12/2022
Chippa Masinga (May His Soul RIP) was a rare breed of SA strikers...he is in that category of Moren "Samora" Khulu, Learnord "Waga waga" Likoebe, Thomas "Whose fooling Who" Hlongwane, Frederick "Congo" Malebane, Noel "Phinda Mzala" Cousins, Mike "Sporo" Mangena, Eric "702" September , Fani "Mr Goals/Didiza" Madida, Daniel "Mambush" Modau....these players i just mentioned were scoring more than 20 goals every season without fail.... i cant forget Basil "Kapse Dans" Steenkamp...Note made on Monday 20 Feb 2023.
I respect Jomo Sono as a one of the great players of his time but he has always been jealous of Doctor Khumalo's achievements. How can you say "if I was a coach I wouldn't play you" to a player who's teammates couldn't perform well when he was not in a starting line up? That Bafana team was nothing without Doctor Khumalo. The first 2 opening games of Bafana in that nations cup Khumalo was playing and he was a maestro as ever in the midfield and created the goals scored. During the Egypt game that Jomo is mentioning Khumalo was injured and was on the bench for that game and which was the reason Bafana lost the game. Khumalo had always shined in the Bafana line-up and did not want a "kick in the ass"
