As an old 250 and 500 two-stroke racer, we never went through this kind of ritual bs I see so many guys doing today. Get on the bike and kick start it. My bikes were always a one or two kick starts! There was never any of this stuff back in the day, this would have been laughed off the starting line. With that being said, dude you have a really nice bike, go out and have a blast on it! Awesome!
No I feel his pain trying to start them. Hand or foot to find top dead center, don’t matter. Mine usually starts first kick doing the correct start up procedure.
It's not simply cold, see the ice and permafrost on the ground, it's below freezing temperature there as this video was recorded. That's also why it seems slow at kicking. That is from heavily cold thick motor oil. Lol
I know these bikes can be a bugger to kick over X you need Motocross boots. . .but the action was gorgeous . . .loved every minute of it. . trying to kickstart it . . please show more please 😘❤️❤️☺️ xxlove the boots mmm
Never seen or heard of a 2-stroke kicking back before. The bike is your tool, not the other way around - kick that thing over 😉 Enjoyed the video, bike sounds amazing
Jamie, They can kick back in several ways, the most serious is should a partial ignition occur while the kickstarter is still engaged, depending on the pedal position and interface with ones leg position, it is EASILY capable of spraining ones knee joint. Big Bore bikes can POP-BACK jamming the riders leg with a powerful reply. The proper method is shown here, as it is a firm vigilance of muscle tone likely to be ready for that possibility. Particular times to be concerned are cold starts, and if something happened in any temperature start, I have come to find it can be traced to an ignition system anomaly. With a Kawasaki CDI ignition I have actually had my KX start up in reverse once. It was due to CDI module failure. (I couldnt resist driving it backwards a little, very wired weirdness) Hopefully nobody ever sees some things I have seen. These bike do sound AMAZING because they are. The world needs more big bore 2 strokes... Gotta love the BraaaAAAAaaaPPss!!
So yeah I just got the 34j model boyesson Rad valve for my YZ250 and have yet to install it but I was just wondering will you running stock reads before this ride valve or did you have like a v-force for setup in cuz I was just wondering what difference did you notice right off the rip as far as responsiveness and bottom and grunt cuz supposedly with the increased air flow and all that it's supposed to have a much better response but recommends leading your bike out because the bigger amounts of air fuel are going to require leaner Jets but I'm guessing you probably didn't do that as far as when this video was taken and it sounds pretty good so just curious on what you had to do as well as the performance and what you had to do to get it to where you liked it
I had stock reed/valve sytem befoce. Boysen rad valve really makes about 3hps more + throttle response.. & torque low-mid stronger. Im sure, i know my KX500.
My legs are like toothpicks!! Like I've skipped leg day for 16 years and I have more ooomff in my kick than you !!! Damn kick it !! Don't make love to it!!!
Kawasaki OEM Cylinder (all the way). I had Pro Circuit high rev pipe that was nice but had few dents. FMF Gnarly is awesome aftermarket part for trails/all around pipe. PC R-304 Silencer is simple & classy.
Ive never owned a 2 stroke so can someone please explain, why does everyone always give the kick start soft pushes until they finally give it a good kick and start the bike properly?
I'm not being funny and I really don't mean any disrespect because we are all different. BUT back in the day 90s I didn't take anything like as long to kick my YZ 490 or any of my 500s over. Even as a first start after rebuilds. I know they take a few kicks but not as long as bikes in some of these videos take. My 18 year old nephew only takes 2 or 3 kicks to start his CR 500. NO DISRESPECT. Lovely KX though. 👍
Usually 3 kicks in warm weather. Never said im 'good for even ride 500, its still my fav bike. (that day in vid was very windy cold, i dont have sweet warm garage).
i got 450f and im wondering how to start it properly, do you kick when it is hard or when you can kick easy? cant figure it out but i manage to start it somehow
Sebastijan Ljubic you cycle through until it’s hard. When it’s hard, the piston is at top dead center. You then want to SLOWLY push down the Kickstarter just an inch. Then kick it as hard as u can. Starting position is one inch past top dead center.
Have you EVER started this bike before - should take 1 or 2-3 kicks max lean it over till gas comes out the overflows then start the thing with a full kick all the way through I never worried about where the piston was - tdc or otherwise - just kick it- that pussy footing around will get you hurt
Yes but in Finland it was incredible cold day when i started it.. garage is even colder so its easy to say: Just Kick it.. no need to use those words always.. im pu***, u s***... getting boring.
@@ArmathuX just saying you could get hurt - I did that slow kick through starting my YZ 400 after a fresh piston once just to distribute oil in the cylinder - it backfired and the kickstarter put a hole in my leather boot then I realized I was bleeding - took 5 stiches to sew my foot up - Wish I still had my 91 KX500 - should have kept it - sorry if I upset you yah ignor the dissing - all good have fun

It's almost painful watching him try to start the damn thing!!!
The joys of 500 ownership
These things are tough to find top
Dead center when cold. Kick a lot smoother warmed up
I dont think he knows to get it to tdc before kicking it but what do i know lol
I had a kx250 2000 and I remember the Kickstarter being tiny af and sliding off my boot constantly lol. The ktm massive kickstarters r the move

You have the jets perfect it’s so crisp
Yeah now it runs so much better.
Yeah we have an 01 kx 500 and it’s a bitch to start but once it’s warm it’s a first kick bike
Tffhkop Just Walked

Hey I have a YZ125 and it’s running mad rich. Do u think the JD jetting kit will make it run crisp??

Kick start the bike with authority
Congrats on 100K armathux
Edit: I got a CRF450X 2007 super moto and I love it
Thx! Nice & Have fun riding.
It's so hard watching someone with Parkinsons try and kick-start a dirt bike.

Very true..Many moons ago I had an RM465 and it was a bastard for it.
Watched all your videos and got a new kx250! love the videos man
How much
3:52 - The moment of joy
I like Kawasaki
Would love to see more of the dirt bikes struggling and stalling out when cold
I can tell that KX500 runs good, (it was super windy & cold = hard to start)
ArmathuX maybe some more with no
Choke when starting or something ??
Worth it in the end love these on back wheel steering lock to lock still goes in straight line x
Se for participar de uma corrida...trilha marcada para umas 10:00hs tem que acordar de madrugada!!!!!!!!
You’re a god. Love the KX
Goddess. It's a girl
Give the guy some credit, the 500cc has a ton of compression. I don't see a decomp.
Kawasaki KX500: more kicking than riding
usually tricky when any new engine part / carb jets installed, after that its normal.
ArmathuX yeah but then you have to kick for 10 years😂 but that wasn‘t a negative comment I love your bikes!
@@paulschuler1959 Anyway its worth it (my fav bike). that Boyesen Rad Valve makes nice torque increase
ArmathuX 👍

Love ur gear man. Just like me, retro 👍
3:18 Fired back - ankle broke
dream bike
That bike idle and starts good. Mine need half throttle to start and as soon as let go of gas it bog down and stops
Props to u man don’t listen to the haters bs. Half of the people in the comments couldn’t kick that bad bitch.
awesome man love it, also try kicking it over with ya heel its alot easier :]
Should used my fox boots :)
ArmathuX not easy to kick a 500 with iron boot 😄
Bless ive been that nervous with my first bike lol The kick does seem stiff but you were missing TDC pretty much every kick
laughs at me makes you feel better? it was cold windy day & new parts/jets installed.. not always so easy everything.
CONGRATS ON 100.000 SUBS!
Thanks!!
heat up the carburetor with a hair dryer (on a cold day) for a couple of minutes and it will start without problems 😉
Don’t skip leg day! 😂
Wow man, so nice
Nice bike congratulations on 100k
Thanks for all subs! Happy New Year.
U guys ride the snot out of that 500💚

Thinking about getting the same upgrade for my cr250r to replace vforce.
this is my first boyesen part, awesome.
Truth Shock you won’t regret the rad valve. Any 2 stroke deserves one
I new to dirt bikes why do you have to turn over the gen slowly at first?
Nice films 🎥
youre best bike
yeah, amazing bike,thx!
Lovely
how do you know which reeds fit ? and which to take ? i would love some boyeson reeds for my bike too
This RadValve system fits all 4 generation KX500 engines.
Big bore kit next time? And a custom pipe?

Because of compresion
Cool stuff. How do you like the performance of the new rad valve?
Better throttle response, few hps more for sure. Good product.

Holy fuck man just pop it just past tdc and give her a good kick.

Con la pedalina
Ya not getting it in the right spot very annoying, need to bulk up a bit too bro
Looks tough to start 😅
Always tricky after carb jets changed. (first start)
What oil did you use?
Castrol 3% premix, amazing burning smell
ArmathuX 😍
Kick harder or bump start it
I bet this thing is so funny to kick start!Does it ever kickback?I injured my calve starting TTR 600 few months ago...
Yes i like to start my fav bike. (if weather is wet/rainy it may kickback but its rare)

@@throttlejockey3366 I think something in humidity.
Is oil at 2%?
about 2,5-3% is good
