I was homeschooled and I graduated high school at 13 because my mom didn’t like how the school held me back 2 years because they couldn’t accommodate my ADHD. SAT 2300. Autodidacts, out there, you’re amazing don’t let the system hold you back.
@captain obvious , It is the pursuit of jobs that drive "the system" forward. When there are fewer jobs than applicants, education is not only a relative thing to the individual but a damning thing for the Nation. Today's events give example and repay study.
That's awesome!! congrats on an early graduation. In many ways Autodidacticism is superior to formal education, at least it depends. I know that I was miserable in school and fell behind doing things "by the book" or shall I say by their limited assortment of rules and books. Once, I had hit college I actually began to succeed in my pursuits as I did a lot more self learning than anything else. I thrive more alone than being contained by someone else's limited lens. This isn't to say that I never learned from good teachers, I think having more of a mentor of tutor like a one on one scenario is best or a very small group of people in a class setting is good.
i am a musician, sound designer audio engineer. i learned everything by my own. never had a mentor. and it worked for me. i have a incredibly strong desire to figure out certain things on my own.
I’m building my future through self-teaching. I believe learning is the best investment anyone can make. I hope to help others on their autodidact journey as well. 🙂
same here. I'm a high school drop out - bootstrapped myself up and down the corporate ladder with no real issue. i leave it and come back to it as needed. no degree or credentials - just experience from figuring things out myself.
Yeah, pretty much. School was always boring, until the occasional teacher would ask me to teach a class.. Then I loved it! I knew school would take a long time. I wanted to get out into the world, signed up for the USN when I was 16, shipped out when I turned 17 and never looked back. I did get a GED when I was 20 and about to finish my 4 years of duty. But no one ever asked to see that certificate! I became a tech school teacher for about 10 years, had teaching and engineering jobs in the computer field (high paying jobs) and before retiring, put in another 15 years of service for America, working on 'experiments' at a Lab where I got to build and test a lot of cool stuff. In my late 60s, I started learning HVAC tech. Became an EPA approved technician. Just turned 73, and I still have more I want to do. I now have a grandson (at last) and at just 2 years old, he seems to be a fellow Autodidact. Man, his mom & dad are gonna have an interesting time.
8:10 💯The reason for which I reached this video is that I concluded a while ago that I must watch and read a lot about the subject of self-learning and self-Regulated learning in order to feel rich about the topic and to be able to write about the topic
CAMARA MAN you deserve a medal for this. It kills the whole magic of education. Your mind is fed an endless amount of information and your task is to transfer them from your notes and textbooks to the exam. No room for creativity, no room for exploring new ideas.
I'm not sure I would ever say they're "bad", It just wasn't suited for you. The reality is that people like us tend to be either highly motivated , goal driven and curious. Many people once out of school won't willing study any academic or technical info unless they have to. Schools primarily exist for two reasons validation of knowledge and skills, and as an incentive to learn.
I went to University to receive an education and training in my chosen film. Unfortunately my University did not offer any practical education or training in my field. Thus I am stuck having to teach myself everything outside of school a seemingly never ending process that seems to be impossible.
No one asked you for your advice. Just admire what you saw and that's it. The fact that he sounded nervous or whatever it is, makes him real, genuine and human. Mitt everything needs to scripted.
In the modern era, we don't have much of an excuse not to keep ourselves constantly informed, right? Well, that is a decision concerning the quality of the information that is both contemporaneously available and how available that contemporaneous info is to the concerned individual. Wouldn't one say?
Two of the three examples were started with apprenticeships. That is not teaching yourself. The Last was an example was self learning through necessity, a strong incentive I would say. I can almost guarantee that every person you investigate started in their fields with these two set of circumstances. An apprenticeship or necessity.
I remember (not sure) but Faraday was a janitor at his school. Though eventually recognized, he never had formal education hence why Maxwell had to make math forms for him. I understand that they had help doesn't mean self learning doesn't help.
Well that's a big assumption to make and one I can tell you is not true for the most part. . Secondly all of these people were mostly self taught. Incentive is to learn for yourself is entirely possible as long as you have the desire to do so.

We need to support ourselves.🍀

Excellent! It's not just about acquiring information, but about going out there and trying things out. In order to learn, conduct experiments.
This man is inspirational. Best motivational ted talk on the subject of self education.
Not only that it appears he has public speaking anxiety. I recognized it because I have it too but despite that he performed is Ted talk excellently!

Summary to save your time
Step 1: Start with doing what you want to learn
Step 2: Don't quit doing what you want to learn
School isnt bad, but the problem is when you loose your intelectual and creativity dies out with home work and grades.
CAMARA MAN you deserve a medal for this.

School stunted my intellectual growth. Homework, deadlines, exams are bad
Plus, school managed to make exciting stuff boring & the curriculum was poor
